Part two of my 'Top 10 Christmas Lists' sees me focusing on the Christmas covers by Irish bands! There must be hundreds of Christmas tunes out there covered by Irish artists and I've chosen the best 10 for this list! Have a listen and put some love into your heart! 10. SJ McArdle - Stop The Cavalry This song is perfect for SJ's deep deep voice! Stop [...]

Nope The Top 50 isn't the name of a new band although it's not the worse name for a band! It's the time of the year where for aesthetic purposes I list my top 50 Irish artists .... at the moment ... living in Ireland ..... who have released a single/album ..... and who pay me backhanders! Over the next 2 weeks [Monday - Friday] I'll be working up the list five acts at a time and telling the world why each [...]

In the final part of the 'Ceol Na Nollaig' series I bring to you my favourite Christmas song sung by one of the most talented Irish bands I have ever heard live. One Day International recorded a version of Joni Mitchell's The River a few years back and is a fitting tribute to a delicate song. http://www.myspace.com/onedayi nternational One Day International - River [...]

This week on the blog I'm bringing the best posts from my first blog 'Mixtape4Melfi' over to 2uibestow. With the IMRO thing I've decided to delete that first blog altogether from the internet archives! Ruby Tuesday was a feature where I plugged a band that was at the very least new to me. I did find some wonderful jems. Here's part 1 of the archive! Ruby Tuesday – Odi [Appeared on 9th Sept 2008] [...]

Yep .... Love is all around us and I hope you're getting your fair share! There's plenty to go around! Isn't there? Here's a Mixtape of lurve songs for your pleasure. Foy Vance - Little Heart Kitty & The Can Openers - Predatory Love Mark Dignam - This Is Love The Whiskey Limbs - Love [...]
I've been to some amazing gigs this year. Most of them I've organised myself ;)....as well as going to Mark Dignam in Whelans, One Day International in Whelans, Little Palace in Navan but for me Mark Geary's gig in Whelans last night reignited my faith in Ireland. Yes Ireland! I have proof of how good it was ..... Here is America performed with Ann Scott and the band! The band consisted of Graham Hopkins on Drums and Karl Odlum on Bass. There was this [...]
Some excellent footage of Irish acts at the EP has made it's way onto YouTube! 3 songs from Dave Geraghty's set! Ragdoll, Use Me, Kaleidoscope

If you're going to the Electric Picnic have a great time. I'll be trying to catch as much of the festival as I can on the radio. International artists I'd have loved to see are Madness and The Flaming Lips. I also think I'd have lingered around the Salty Dog Saloon Stage witch has a great line-up: Bands on deck until 4am Friday 4th September 6.30pm Will Softly (Dusk DJ slot) 8.00pm Ray and Ian's Sea Shanties 9.15pm Bionic Rats 10.30pm The Cujo Family 11.45pm The Sick and Indigent Song Club featuring The Pirate Pussies 1.00pm [...]

Another cracking poster for Rory Grubb's mini Irish tour to promote his debut album. Looking forward to catching him in Whelans on 21st July. A reminder that this charity event is happening tomorrow night in The Sugar Club. Alternatively you can go check out Nell Bryden & Joy Booth in Boyles in [...]
They made our top fifty albums of last year and One Day International are still getting out and about. The band, featuring Matt Lunson on vocals, Cormac Curran on piano, Danny Snow on bass, Ross Turner on drums and Eimear O'Grady on cello, have already been to SxSW this year and now return to Dublin for a show at Whelans on June 27th. Tickets priced €15 on sale now. Related SXSW 2009 Photos: The Irish Irish SXSW line-up and times [...]

Start with Day 2 Day Parties I had exactly 12 seconds to hit my room, clear the day's photos off the camera, and run back across to the faaar west side of town. Night Two in Austin was going to start with a one-two shot of Silver Lake, CA. 1. Eulogies Eulogies was a band I'd heard a ton of good things about from reviewers outta Silver Lake. Makes sense as the reviewers I know gotta thing for fuzzy shoegazey stuff with chimey guitars (but who doesn't [...]

Whelans has hit the milestone of 20 years and is celebrating with a series of gigs in the coming months starting tonight with the first of Mundy's three gigs. I predict Friday night will be mad in Whelans with Mundy downstairs and Groom in the upstairs venue. There's no doubt that Whelans is a special little venue that has accomondated many of Ireland's best artists as well as some of the very best International acts. The list includes Jeff Buckley, Townes Van Zandt, The Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, The National, David Gray and hundreds more. Here are my own personal [...]
One Day International - " Miss Your Mouth " It initially seems a bit counterproductive to be listening to such a somber song on such a beautiful spring day but it's a beautiful somber song so it all works out in the end. Irish band One Day International has somehow flown under the radar despite these gorgeous and haunting heartbroken lullabies they create however thanks to an appearance at this year's SXSW they are starting to get a bit more attention stateside. I can't recommend them enough - especially if you're having problems in [...]
In the space of five days I got to see four of Ireland's finest artists in Whelans. Here for what it's worth is my take on the gigs! Friday 3rd April - One Day International with support from The Hedge Schools The Hedge Schools were Pat Barrett assisted by his mate, the legendary Joe Chester who produced last year's album 'Never Leave Anywhere'. I'm a massive fan of this album. Perfect escapism in the car. Performed live the tunes seem even more poignant and mesmerising. Their sound reminded me of old mid week gigs in pre-renovation [...]

1. People seem to like lists! 2. Brian Canavan & Bill Coleman are going to be brilliant tonight upstairs in Whelans because they are playing for your hard earned cash. Pay what you feel is appropriate after the gig. 3. Ruby Sessions Conar & co have many excellent artists available for your pleasure on Tuesdays! 7 Apr 2009 21:00 Luke Slott, Laura Sheeran, Nick Carswell, Lisa McLaughlin 14 Apr 2009 21:00 Ria Czerniak, Niall Colfer, [...]
Pop over here to see the 50 best Irish acts as voted by the four Ticket music journalists - JIM CARROLL , TONY CLAYTON-LEA , SINÉAD GLEESON and LAUREN MURPHY. A Classic Education - Stay Son One Day International - One Day International The Guggenheim Grotto - Fee Da Da Dee Horse Feathers - Curs In The Weeds Cary Brothers - Ride [...]
Here is my lame attempt of a mini aggregator of the best Irish music in the blogsphere at the moment. It's been a busy week with 22 Irish artists at SXSW in Austin, Bell X1 getting a big push in the US and new albums by Jinx Lennon and David Kitt. Oh and U2 are still getting coverage galour! Let's say you happen to be born in the 80's and have limited knowledge of pre Joshua Tree U2 then http://myaimzistrue.blogspot.c om/ is the place to go for a few decent hindsight reviews and sample mp3s of [...]
2009 was a good year for the Irish in Texas as there were 22 Irish artists showcasing in total. What was most obvious that SXSW was not endgame for many of these artists who had toured heavily in the US prior to the Austin gigs or who had solicited an impressive number of gigs while there. Fighting With Wire played 12 Austin gigs in a week, The Mighty Stef played nine, We Should Be Dead played six, The Urges played eight shows and Lisa Hannigan's last three stops on her [...]
