![[ViDEO] WU LYF – L Y F](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3324224_lg.jpg)
Manchester's WU LYF have developed a moniker that stands for World Unite Lucifer Youth Foundation. I first heard about them last January from Veronica at CreamTeam . While I've been looking the other way, WU LYF have been blowing up huge, and with good reason. Here is their latest video for the song "L Y F" from their forthcoming debut album Go Tell Fire To The Mountain due 13 June 2011. If you're going to watch this, watch ALL THE WAY TO THE END. Trust me: it's worth [...]
![[Live @ SXSW] James Blake at Stubb’s BBQ](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3289863_lg.jpg)
As the unofficially official wunderkind of the dubstep modernist set (and currently most important name you need to know in music), James Blake had a lot of expectation laid upon him when he took the stage during SXSW 2011 at Stubb's Bar-B-Que last night. The results speak for themselves: his precociousness never overshadowed his soul-stirring performance, and the audience seemed to pay nearly rapt attention to him - a stunning accomplishment for an artist performing outside at Stubbs. Check out this recording of his performance, courtesy of NPR .
![[New Music] Bosco Delrey – 20 Flight Dub](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3272057_lg.jpg)
We've been consciously anticipating the release of Bosco Delrey's forthcoming album on Mad Decent / Downtown Records , Everybody Wah , for some time now. If you read this blog, you know we've been digging the tracks he's been putting down for a long time. Thanks to the good people at MD, we have a track to share with you from that album. This song, "20 Flight Dub" is the last song on the album, lucky number 13. Put on your seatbelt: the Bosco [...]
![[Album] Mother Mother – Eureka](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3252691_lg.jpg)
If power pop is really not your thing, you're probably in the wrong spot. To my excitement, it happens to be the thing of Vancouver, BC darlings Mother Mother whose third studio album, Eureka , is due for release on 15 March worldwide. WHY YOU SHOULD CARE : Sometimes real musical gems come strolling out of left field wearing bright colors, and count this album among them. Eureka's great strength is in how it effortlessly floats seamlessly [...]

A week on from featuring SBTRKT as a Dots & Dashes Ones To Watch at the majestically messy Bloc Weekend , today our attentions turn to genre slicer and dicer Barry Lynn, aka Boxcutter . The Irish beat monger already counts five full LPs amidst his back catalogue, all through the persistently promising Planet Mu label , and melds IDM idiosyncrasies together seamlessly with all sorts of influences, Sunshine (below), lifted from seminal 2006 effort Oneiric taking in nu-jazz rhythms and amazonian pipes atop deep, soulful samples. Boxcutter [...]

As this year's Bloc Weekend draws forever closer and the anticipation builds, we've been busying ourselves by dissecting perhaps the greatest and most eclectic line up Butlins can cope with over a seemingly inconspicuous March weekend. Kicking off on 11th March and concluding in a presumably delightfully disorderly fashion on the 13th, we've been divulging our tips for the top of the house hierarchy of all things electronic, previously featuring Francophonic disco overlord Bernard Fèvre and superlative Berliner Siriusmo . This week is the turn of illusive producer SBTRKT , or former nu-jazz knob [...]
Tyler the Creator of OFWGKTA drops a video for the single "Yonkers" from his forthcoming album Goblin . You can cop this single on 2/15 from iTunes. If you don't know about OFWGKTA, they've got next, like it or not - so get familiar. Prepare to be outrage and amazed at the same time. Ahh the gloomy days of February... Where it's still dark for about 70% of the day, raining almost constantly and there's not even all that much on the telly... Well to make it all better and tide you over until Summer we have Callie Morris, web editor of ticketing website Aloud.com to give you her top 5 recommended live acts to go and see in 2011. Anna Calvi Hotly tipped as one of the most notable rising stars of 2011, Anna Calvi will soon be everywhere, yep that's [...]
Memphis today has its fair share of people grinding away at what we would call 'traditional hip-hop' - and if you're familiar with their Oscar-winning exploits, you'd see this as an opposing force to what the city is best known for creating. Memphis is, after all, the city that brought you Three 6 Mafia, Yo Gotti and Al Kapone, just to name a few. The current cultural emphasis on chillwave, lo-fi, echoes of latter-day indie rock and game-spitting masters of hip-hop like Guru (R.I.P), Mos Def and Pete Rock, have subliminally entered the regional zeitgeist, trickling down and [...]

What with this year's Butlins bonanza that is Bloc Weekend now under five weeks away, Dots & Dashes continues its voyage into the brightest lights in the darkest depths of the rundown. Last week we showcased Bernard Fèvre and his Black Devil Disco Club , whilst this week is the turn of Moritz Friedrich, aka Siriusmo , an electro dervish hailing from Berlin touted as the quintessential maestro of everything electronic by the likes of 2manydjs, Yelle, Cassius and more. Signed to Modeselektor's Monkeytown label, Friedrich has often featured alongside Bronsert and Szary amidst [...]

So by now pretty much all other sites have finished with their tips for the year ahead, not me, I like to stretch these things out. Milk the fucker for all it's worth I say, next week we'll be returning to normal Scots Way-Hay action, which is pretty much structured in exactly the same format as these 'Ones To Watch in 2011' posts. To finish things off I have gone with Finn LeMarinel, an artist who I have known about for a few years now, but that was purely down to him being the frontman of Scottish 'math-rocker' [...]

After last week's 17 year-old electronic boy wonder MOTHS , here we have 16 year old Archy Marshall, London based Zoo Kid who doesn't sound like he comes out of his room too often but to cause mischief. He's a bit of an old soul, is Marshall and prefers to play reverb "hall"-heavy electric guitar ballads which channel the drawl of Billy Bragg and the energy of Jamie T. Marshall attended the famous Brit School (Adele, Amy, Jessie J yadda yaada yawn et al) but his dark and edgy songs suggest he wouldn't be [...]

Photo by Stephen Burch It might seem a bit of an odd choice for me to be choosing 30lbs of Bones, aka multi-instrumentalist, Johny Lamb, as one of my tips for 2011. For one his latest album, 'Method' came out last year, plus he doesn't sound particularly Scottish, but ever since Al from Armellodie sent his album over to me a few months back it's slowly worked it's magic on me. It's the kind of album that will undoubtedly grow in popularity as word of mouth [...]

I loathe having to include any excess punctuation in my post titles, but for this series I just about have to. Spurred into action by the clarion call that was the BBC's truly depressing Sound of 2011 poll, this run of semi-related posts will fulfil two functions; firstly, I feel it is my duty to debunk everyone else's picks for 2011, and secondly, I can't really pour scorn on other people's predictions without providing a couple of my own*. Basically, if the dear old beeb is to be believed, 2011 is going to be an awful year for music. I've [...]

The definition of one to watch is an artist who is clearly adept at making music and impressing but maybe hasn't gone as far as the album making cycle. MOTHS aka Jack Colleran has a good excuse. He's 17 and still in school in my hometown of Newbridge, Kildare but he's already made a couple of standout electronic jams. Definitely keep an eye out for more of this goodness. And again, he's ONLY 17. Download: MOTHS - Slow/down Download: MOTHS - Blisters
January has always been a month of hope and expectation in the music world; the ravages of the Christmas chart silliness, coupled with the fact that everyone in the country pretty much turns off for a week or so, means we emerge into the new year bleary eyed and eager for news of what's ahead. Those amongst us on the web who consider ourselves "tastemakers" are always quick to respond to demand (more often than not in the blogosphere's favourite format: a list!) but since 2003 the discussion has invariable been led by the dear old beeb and their [...]

Lord Huron is the nom de plume of Benji Schneider, a Los Angeles based musician from Michigan who put out two fantastic EPs of under the radar tropical harmony-heavy and hazy folk pop last year. The two EPs are called Into The Sun EP and Mighty EP . There are strains of the the same Afro melodies that inspired Vampire Weekend and there's an ethereal tinge to Schneider's vocals. That's about all we have to go on at the moment but the tunes speak for themselves. More in 2011 please. [...]

The second act that I have high hopes for in 2011 are Glasgow seven piece, Happy Particles. Formed by members of Remember Remember, they first came to my attention at the tail end of last year, thanks to Halina from the Glasgow Podcart. She suggested I check them out as she thought they were pretty special. I think the phrase she used was something along the lines of "you're going to spaff when you hear them" and spaff I did. It was the song 'Infinite Jet' that I heard first, having come across a link to [...]

Heads up for a four day mini-festival taking place on Wexford Street from this Wednesday to Saturday. Ones To Watch 2011 will see a buttload of new Irish acts playing over three venues: Whelan's , Upstairs in Whelan's and The Village . Tickets are just €10 each for four nights or €5 per night. Full lineup broken up day by day after the jump. Acts were chosen with the help of The Paul McLoone Show on Today FM, State.ie , Tickets.ie and The Ticket . It's like Ireland's [...]

It has to be said that Chemikal Underground really do know their stuff. In recent years they've released some pretty amazing albums from the likes of the Phantom Band, De Rosa, Zoey Van Goey and Aidan Moffat. In 2011, they're continuing this rich vein of form by selecting exciting new Scottish artists to work with. In March of this year they will release FOUND's third album 'factorycraft', it is their first studio album and it's an absolute belter. They're not ones to be pigeonholed, much like their stable mates The Phantom Band. For me personally they sound like a mish-mash [...]
