![[Listen] – Friends – “A Thing Like This”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3985134_lg.jpg)
Tweet Listen to Friends ' new song "A Thing Like This" that they performed live for BBC Radio One's Maida Vale sessions. Since we already tagged them as Ones To Watch for 2012 we've started dutifully tracking Friends ' every move. Right now for instance they're traversing the U.K.'s majestic waterways by paddle boat, taking in the scenery the best way known to man. [...]

Good things come to those who wait apparently, in Django Django's case they really did make us wait. It was way back in May of 2009 that I ran a tiny wee introduction post on the band, since then the band have been taking pretty slowly with the odd single here and there, they've spent the past few years doing the odd tour here and there. You'd hardly call them prolific, but then again they have just spent the past three years holed up in the East Londonbedroom of their drummer, producer and de facto leader David [...]

I don't know about you, but I was genuinely gutted last year when Mitchell Museum decided to take an indefinite hiatus. Being the talented bunch that they are, I guess it was always inevitable that they'd resurface with other musical projects sooner than later. It was only recently that Kev from the Moth & The Mirror started raving about how great, former Mitchell Museum drummer, Raindeer's new project, Behold... The Old Bear was. At first I was a bit hesitant as it turned out that Kev was actually also in the band, however, after asking Raindeer to send me a [...]
Last year's Ones to Watch mini-fest in Whelan's threw up some previously unheard bands that went on to do great things last year. Cashier No 9 are the band who spring to mind. Soon after playing the January 2011 bash, their album came out and became one of my favourites [Read more]

My second choice for a band to watch out for in 2012 are Glasgow five piece, Olympic Swimmers, a band who have been simmering away quite nicely for a few years now. Featuring members of Strike The Colours, The Unwinding Hours and the soon to be defunct Take A Worm For A Walk Week, they are all set to step step into the lime light with the release of their debut album which is due out later this year. Hello, I'm Lloyd. Who on earth are you? [...]
A lot of this weeks' attention has been devoted to dispelling the dismay and dreariness of January. How about 50 bands, across 3 stages, for €10 and a free pint to brighten things up? Following the success of last years 'Ones to Watch', the mini festival returns to Whelan’s and The Village for 2012 and kicks off [...]

Highlights : Over 50 bands play Whelan's Ones to Watch festival over four days this week. There's also First Fortnight gigs and Forward/Slash's night of electronic producers are the standouts this week. A list of recommended events taking place over the next seven days in Dublin. All times are 7.30/8pm unless stated. Feel free to recommend gigs not present in the comments below. Tuesday January 10th Christy Moore With Declan Sinnott @ [...]

So as the end of year polls start to peter out, it's that time of year when the blogosphere starts to make their predictions of what they expect to be big in 2012, or in some bloggers cases they choose to dismiss these kind of list. Personally I normally find that the artists that I expect to make some kind of impact aren't normally my cup of tea. So rather than try and predict who's going to 'make it big' this year, I thought I'd try and introduce you to a few names that you might not have heard much [...]
![[Ones To Watch] – Introducing – POLIÇA](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3975803_lg.jpg)
Tweet Last year saw a big resurgence in (good sounding) R’n’B music, with artists like The Weeknd , Frank Ocean or Active Child , among others, fronting what came to be known as PBR’n’B (a movement we obviously loved, seeing as how all three artists are on our Best Albums of 2011 list ). Today, I am pleased to welcome Minneapolis band POLIÇA to the movement. [...]

With the advent of a new year, there comes the scramble that most blogs get caught up in, to make their predictions about who they think will make it big over the following twelve months. I'm not sure about you, but one look at this year's BBC Sound of... list was enough for me to bury my head in my hands in abject despair. I'm a fan of only a few picks on that list; the rest failed to click with me at all. A much more pleasing alternative was the Blog Sound of 2012 list, [...]

Yasmin is someone I've kind of been sitting on for a while, then with all of my laziness and blog inactivity just sort of forgot to post about. Man, am I sorry about that now! I'm right now, for the very first time, listening to Yasmin 's new "old school, reggae infused carnival jam," " Light Up (The World) " featuring D'n'B/Jungle master Shy FX and the lovely Ms. Dynamite . While I know the song has [...]
![[Ones To Watch] – Introducing – Friends](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3970773_lg.jpg)
Tweet We briefly mentioned Friends back in October , but allow me to introduce them properly. The latest sticky-sweet girl pop band hails from the unlikely location of Bushwick, an often sketchy and recently-hip area of Brooklyn. In a way, it make sense as girl-pop, as a genre, is often sketchy and recently hip. Fortunately for Friends, the moniker that they finally settled on, their particular brand of electro-dazed pop is verging on excellent. Though they haven't even dropped [...]
![[Ones To Watch] – Introducing – Kool Thing](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3957383_lg.jpg)
Tweet The duo known as Kool Thing , made up of Julie Chance and Jon Dark, met at at one of Dark's DJ events in Paris in 2010. Quickly noticing a kindred musical taste, the pair began to share records and discuss musical ideas. Julie, (from Dublin, Ireland) and Jon (from Sydney, Australia) soon started organizing a move to Berlin, where they sat down to put their vision to reality. Kool Thing brings to life the jewel-toned hours of night that [...]

Ricki-Lee is hands down one of my favorite Aussie pop singers today. Sure, the Australian pop scene is saturated with an abundance of talent, but Ricki-Lee should be right up there in the mix as far as I'm concerned. The first single off her forthcoming third studio album (her first signed with EMI ), a stunning dance/pop jewel called " Raining Diamonds " was released in Australia back in October and went on to peak at #19 on the ARIA Singles Chart . The song is [...]

Funny isnt it, when looking back on last years 'Ones To Watch' list and seeing what became of our picks. We never said that they were going to take over the world and sell a million records, far from it in fact. What we are saying about this lot, though, is that an EP or album are expected from this talented lot in the forthcoming year. continue reading >>
![[Ones To Watch] – Introducing – Jagwar Ma](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3939154_lg.jpg)
Tweet Something a little different on LBYB today: a feature about jaguars! No, obviously not. That said, I do probably know more about jaguars than I do about the actual subject of the post, Jagwar Ma . Like Martyn of Pinemarten , the gentleman behind it prefers to remain largely anonymous. What I can tell you is that his real name is Jono Ma; that he spends his time between Berlin and Australia; and that you probably [...]

The seal around Azealia Banks has been broken. There's no going back to the underground space she occupied for 2011. Kanye's called her up, she's inevitab...
It was Jim who first brought Alabama Shakes to my attention. Then I got the email that said Rough Trade had snapped them up for their debut album last year. Then NPR's
![[Listen/Download] – New Track By Contrakids – “Fool”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3913454_lg.jpg)
Tweet Listen to and download "Fool" below, the new song by Contrakids . I'll say this for Contrakids - they aren't wasting time. That's something that makes me very happy. Since I first heard them back in April, they've delivered a beefy EP (seven tracks) and a bunch of standalone numbers. They've been consistently infectious, and a cut above standard electro-pop fare when it comes to lyricism and [...]
