![A$AP Rocky - Live in Toronto [Concert Recap]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4024436_lg.jpg)
There was very little about the A$AP Rocky show at The Opera House in Toronto to suggest that this was going to be a banger of a show. To start, the A$AP crew had very little experience with a live crowd and - what we did know - was that they had a predilection to beating up sound guys . Plus, given that presumed assault charge, I didn't have the most supreme confidence that Rakim Mayers and the crew would even be getting into the country to begin with. But they did. And from there, they certainly maximized their [...]

Did you remember reading this Pitchfork album review ? Did you remember thinking... "who the heck are these guys?" followed by "omg i have to get this album cos it got a 9.0?" It seemed so long time ago, but the year was 2005 and the band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah received one of the first notable Pitchfork boosts. Many bands would soon follow, but the Brooklyn group were definitely one of the first ever to rise from pure obscurity to sold out venues in a matter of minutes all due to a that [...]

Last Thursday Trombone Shorty played the Opera House as part of Toronto's Nujazz Festival with support from the Toronto Jazz festival. Growing up in New Orleans' treme neighbourhood, Troy Andrews a.k.a. Trombone Shorty has taken his jazz roots and fused them with funk and soul to create something that's, well, pretty badass. It was like watching Kanye play if Kanye knew how to play the trombone. Having recently started watching HBO's Treme, I've only just come to learn about this [...]
Setlist and a few clips from last night's Cactus show in NH...

Pariis Opera House were once individually known as Kidd Wolff and Modeon, but in their collective guise they are a super exciting new duo, ready to challenge continental rivals such as Justice and Digitalism with their mix of commercial pop and ultra-cool electro. Due to their popstar lifestyle, their world is a non-stop ride of showbiz parties, secret club nights and award ceremonies. And all before releasing a note of music. We managed to grab five minutes on the phone with this exciting young duo (less excitingly named Chris and Ross) outside a [...]

words & photos by Ryan Barkan Feist played the Howard Gilman Opera House at BAM Wednesday night (11/2). It was the show that needed quadruple confirmation back in August. It was her first proper New York show since 2008 , though a lucky few caught her play a surprise show in crypt in Harlem exactly one month ago . After a surprisingly great (to me, first time seeing [...]

Tyler Kohlhoff Who: Blitzen Trapper What: Portland-based band whom you could reasonably call any and all of classic, folk, jam, country or psych rock and yet still not accurately pin them down. Why: Their sixth full-length American Goldwing came out back in September and now they're back where they're most comfortable - on stage, on the road. When: Sunday, October 30, 2011 Where: The Opera House in Toronto (19+) Who else: [...]

When I first moved to Toronto for school, I didn't know much about live music. Like many teenagers, I had experienced a few larger open air concerts. You know, the ones where you get to buy bottles of water or soda for $5 and listen to bands that were popular on the radio at the time. Everything changed when I moved to the big city. A guy in my residence was a huge ska fan and started bringing us out to live shows. In tiny intimate clubs dotted around the city, we'd rock out to the likes of [...]

Bands tour all across the country (and the world!), but we don't generally give it a second thought, unless they are coming to our town. Today, we will compare two tour dates on the tour of The Low Anthem and William Elliott Whitmore and see how they measure up. One date was in Washington, DC at the famed 9:30 Club , as seen by TVD editor Kelly Kettering , and the other was a few hours away in the small West Virginia town of Marlinton at the Pocahontas [...]
![[Event] This Thursday in Toronto: The Ultimate MC Finale feat. Pharoahe Monch at Opera House](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3714484_lg.jpg)
I'm probably going to be at this. Fellow T.dot heads: will you? Shout to the kid, Click on the heads up. For many people - especially young adults - music represents the very cornerstone of their identity. A person's taste in music directly impacts everything about them, from what they wear to who they're friends with. Music is as much a part of their life as food or air. And when their musical preferences include Hip Hop, this is doubly true. For these fans, Hip Hop is life. Ultimate MC is a [...]

I know what you're thinking. "Why the fuck is dubcomm posting about an all-ages hardcore party when he's not even on the bill?" ... Well, I was tasked with designing the flyer... It's easily one of the nicest I've ever done, so here it is for you!

The night started off with Toronto's own The Paint Movement , however, to my misfortune, the eastbound Queen Street streetcar was really slow and I ended up missing their set. By the time I reached The Opera House, Craft Spells was setting up. I didn't get a chance to check out any of Craft Spells' music prior to the show, but I was pleasantly surprised by their music. Their lo-fi/dream pop sound had me captivated from start to finish. Check out their debut LP, Idle Labor , which was released March of this year. [...]
