Holiday odds and sods from the legendary Cameo Parkway vault With the departure of Gordon Anderson from Collectors' Choice, and the apparent sidelining of the label's activities, their reissue program for the Cameo-Parkway catalog has moved with Anderson to his new label, Real Gone. This eighteen-track set of holiday-themed material combines tunes from two of the label's stars, Bobby Rydell and Chubby Checker and two of the label's fine doo-wop groups, the Cameos and Jaynells. The track-list features a number of fun one-offs, including Bob Seger's rock 'n' soul "Sock it to Me Santa," [...]

Connecticut's The Willow & The Builder is technically Richard Miron and Adrian Simon, but they're joined by a whole slew of musicians on their debut s/t record. The ever-changing dynamic of the debut is impressive, as Miron and Simon's exuberant youthfulness is on full display. But there's also a keen sense of sorrow, and the combination of the two makes for a fascinating listen. Finely and delicately crafted, the album takes us on Miron and Simon's journey through the Connecticut wilderness, and, in turn, a realization that the death of their youth is approaching much quicker than anticipated. Words by Jim Chemistry, in music, is that undefined element that when present, heightens a band's overall potential, and when lacking, is utterly crippling. History is pretty clear when it comes to this. You can have the best musicians in the world, but if there's no chemistry between them it's the equivalent of them playing separate but in close proximity. Likewise, the crappiest of musicians, if on the same page, can produce some truly inspiring tunes. The absolute best is when awesome musicians just click and the sum of the whole is just [...]

As The Polyphonic Spree celebrates its 11th year in existence, they have released the single "It's Christmas," which was recorded in 2003 around the same time as Together We're Heavy. The track somehow got lost in the shuffle but was recently found and mastered. Additionally, the band has another brand new track "Bullseye," which is "the first single released from a collection of songs from the forthcoming label, Good Records Recordings ." <embed height="350" width="425" src=" http://widgets.vodpod.com/w/vi deo_embed/Video.15760347" flashvars="" wmode="transparent" allowscriptaccess="never" type="application/x-shockwave- flash" <embed height="350" width="425" src=" http://widgets.vodpod.com/w/vi deo_embed/Video.15760375" flashvars="" wmode="transparent" allowscriptaccess="never" type="application/x-shockwave- flash"

Wow. When Birdy hits that high note @1:06, it feels like a dream. Or at least something out of a picturesque scene in a film - you know, when the lonely boy flashes back to his first girlfriend dancing in the summer green grass in slow motion, next to Boo Radley's tree... minus the last part. Unfortunately, it all goes downhill from there. I love my breakbeats and heavy drums, but this "Skinny Love" remix needs to stay in the high & mighty. Owsey goes into some glitchy bass work, which may not [...]

Christina Vantzou 's forthcoming Kranky debut, entitled No. 1 , is an immersing experience and brilliant example of how to shape sound and texture. Aside from its massive ambient waves, the tunes on No. 1 are actually carefully constructed compositions that lead you through various emotions using organic instrumentation yet have the electric pulse of synthesizers. Check out the album's opener "Homemade Mountains" below. Kranky will release [...]
Classical composition and Baroque nuance have been present in her music since before her 1986 label debut, however until now, Tori Amos has limited the presence of that influence to the occasional appearance among a sea of more musically current themes and stylistic attempts. Now, upon the release of her 12 th full-length album, Night of Hunters, it seems as though she has finally found her natural place among its entirely classical body of songs. Released on German label, Deutsche Grammophon, each song is composed as a variation on a different classical theme with the [...]
