nihiti (purposefully lowercase) is a NYC psych-folk duo, and their cover of "The Orchids" by art rock vanguards Psychic TV is my pick for track of the week. The original version is so lo-fi it's barely audible, but the cover double tracks the vocal, which almost sounds triple tracked with added echo, to make sure the listener can understand each and every beautiful lyric. Out of all the tracks on Young Orchids' debut full-length, Afterglow , "Twelve Feet Tall" is one of those that I least gravitated to. Touring in support of their debut full-length, Afterglow , Young Orchids , kicked off a week-long trek up the East Coast with a performance tonight at Snug Harbor in Charlotte. While Nas proclaimed he was coming from the dungeons of rap, Repeated Viewing aka Alan Sinclair seems to be coming from the seedy is-it-porn-or-is-it-just-a- really-low-budget-horror-movie section of a Blockbuster circa 1992. The Glasgow artist furthers the the movie-themed musical identity with his album Frozen Existence OST . One of the best bands i've heard on the Great Pop Supplement since its inception are Jerusalem & the Starbaskets. I think a lot to do with it is their fantastic amped-up old rickenbacker sound; their merging of yearning country-ish rock with Velvets-y dissonance; these filthy Spector-esque, shimmering walls of sound that threaten to spill at any point into riotous sheets of distortion & feedback.

So apparently Comcast has a show called Bands on Demand where they interview local bands and tape in-studio performances of their songs. I'm not really sure how often the show runs or how many episodes they have since I ditched that shitty company and their awful customer service years ago. Still, I have to admit this Bands on Demand thing seems to be promising and the episodes appear to be well-produced.
