Can't let this one slip through the cracks! Oskar Schönning plays the kind of pop-oriented jazz befitting of an era when tracks such as "Take five" would actually chart. His compositions are concise, the melodies memorable. Nowadays a great majority of the jazz conversation seems oriented towards freeform freakouts. That's fine- there's room for both, but this is way more my style. One of the best things about a lot of Schönning's work is also how joyous it sounds, both for the listener and the performers. Here's a little end of the day nugget courtesy of Youtube of Oskar Schönning Trio performing last month at the Lilla Hotellbaren in Hotel Scandic Malmen in Stockholm. Oskar is also in the Loney, Dear band but I'm guessing this is wear his true heart lies. Looks like a great little club and the trio is burning up. Enjoy!

The new single "Faustine" from Swedish jazz artist Oskar Schönning , the first taste of his new live studio album "Peurto" , will be released as a digital download on October 10. The album itself will follow on October 17 with a release party at the same place it was recorded, Teaterstudio Lederman in Stockholm, and it will include a showing of a documentary on the recording as well as DJ,s special guests and more. Oskar Schönning 's upcoming third album "Puerto" will be recorded live in front of an audience this September as an open session at Teater Studio Lederman in Stockholm. It all goes down on September 7 and will include a full concert following the album recording. And then, one-and-a-half months later on October 17, the band will reconvene at the same location for a release party including DJs, a documentary film of the session, special guests and much more.
