In my opinion this mash-up is one of the best I've heard in awhile. Sure, it's pretty simple, but my gosh does it make Kanye West's "Gold Digger" soulful. I might even venture to say that this re-application of the Chiddy Bang instrumental for "Ray Charles" is better than it's original use. Sorry, Chiddy Bang... MashMike kicked some ass with this one. Check it out for yourself. - Chuck Ryan

So far this week it seems like a number of covers are surfacing (hopefully we aren't too behind on getting these gems to your ears) and wouldn't you know it, I have another one for you! This time we have a local favorite in Minneapolis ' own Cloud Cult with their performance of The Beatles ' "Help!". The arrangement is so much different than the original and that's what you have to love about covers, when a band can take a classic and make it their own. As for the bands own work, they are currently working [...]

So after bingeing on the Arctic Monkey 's for the past few months, now even more so after getting tickets to see them on tour with The Black Keys in May, I had to find an excuse to write about them. For those of you who are not aware, they released their newest album Suck It And See last summer and recently performed on the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to promote that album and the aforementioned tour. During the Live Lounge session they covered Katy B 's "Katy On A Mission" from her 2011 debut album [...]

"Black Dunes" by This Will Destroy You is a song entirely dark and ghostly. Beginning with subtle sounds, this post-rock meets shoegaze band out of Texas does a great job creating a haunting melody, and their new video for "Black Dunes" capitalizes on their ability to create an eerie song. Malcolm Elijah overlaps black and white footage with surreal results. A typical song is about three and a half minutes long. It takes that amount of time for "Black Dunes" to build to that ever-so-known [...]

Born and raised in Northern France, the wild-haired musical wizard, Sam Tiba, has been producing electronic grooves for just a few years, but has already made a name for himself for having one of the most unique, enchanting sounds out there. With a background in all things hip hop peppered with some dubstep and an education in Ancient Languages, he takes what he's learned, mixes it all together and creates music that fulfills all of your basal fantasies. He prides himself in making sounds that "just exhale otherworldliness" with twinkly low bpm dreamtime grooves combined with subtle vocal tracks and [...]

Super Mash Bros. are among the few premier groups deft at combining sample upon sample to create unique mixes that are sure to get the party started. Girl Talk is one of the few forces in the world that exist at their level, if that gives you any idea of their talent. But, a better way to truly understand would to be hit play below. Listen to the first track off what Earmilk speculates is going to be featured on an album possibly released later this week. Keep your eyes peeled and share the Super [...]
Loving the stuff coming from Santigold these days. Studio Brussel is playing the new Spank Rock ft. Santigold "Car Song" frequently which always get me in a good mood. The new Spank Rock album, which is produced by Boys Noize, is also worth checking out by the way! Back to Santigold, her latest single "Big Mounth" got produced by Switch and Buraka Som Sistema, this second one I guessed immediately after listening to the first 10 seconds, you'll get why. Check out the single as a free download below! Santigold - Big Mouth
Whats good bugz?! I have some kick ass tunes to get you through this monotonous Monday. Some new Deadmau5, a little Notorious B.I.G. courtesy of Viceroy, and some throwback Nirvana that's given a modern-day makeover. Deadmau5 comes out hot with "Cthulhu23, a jam that is retro in style but still bangs hard, and a clip from "Shits Fashionable I Guess" , The Mau52s own version of the dubstep variety. Viceroy gets his Jet Life on with a funky and tropical remix of "Going Back to Cali", which features some steel drum samples that give it a truly beachy feel. Sound [...]

First, this one hit my inbox the other day and I really enjoyed it. Then I decided to post about it. Then I realized I had no idea what I wanted to say about it, by way of defining their sound etc. So I'm gonna borrow a particularly apt description from kickkicksnare : "Whistle Peak, from Louisville, Ky., is pop music in disguise and experimentation at its core. It is music that takes you on a journey of the imagination, inhabiting fantastical lands while drawing from life experience. It is the particular phrased in the universal. It is children's stories [...]

Halfbrick studio's Jetpack Joyride is a simple game: You navigate Barry Steakfries (!!!) as far as you can down a hallway while avoiding missiles, lazers and spinning electric walls, all the while wearing a machine gun powered jetpack. It's a game about high scores, quirky objectives, simple gameplay, and frantic, hold-your-breath moments. All of which is perfectly embodied in the game's amazing soundtrack. As you jettison Barry down the hallway, a jazz-infused pop-rock, fuzzy-synth laden mish-mash of awesomeness hammers its way into your ears. If you're playing this game without headphones, you are doing it wrong. The gameplay music is frantic [...]

M83 had a pretty huge year. A fantastic album as well as a little bit of a bust into the limelight with their single "Midnight City", which is a feature part of this mash-up. The other half, Mayer Hawthorne , didn't have as great of a year, but he is making huge strides in his hike to the top. You'll probably hear him on the radio eventually, if you aren't already hearing him occasionally. The group that brought these two together, albeit only in the soundwave world... The Hood Internet . These boys have a knack for [...]

The lineup to the Coachella 2012 music festival has recently been announced and boy, this year's festival is definitely not one to miss. Officially known as The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Coachella is held in Indio, California each year and has been since 1999. 75,000 people are expected to attend the festival this year with 3 day passes. Coachella 2012 is for the first time being held over two weekends during April from the 13th to 15th as well as between the 20th and the 22nd to deal with high demand in previous years. Luckily [...]

I'm not usually given to posting movie trailers, but for Wes Anderson , I'll make an exception. The trailer for Moonrise Kingdom came out yesterday and it looks amazing. It definitely has the look and feel (and retro soundtrack) of a Wes Anderson film, with perhaps a bit more sepia-tone to match the 602s time period (although no sign of the usual Futura typeface). But, of course, the best part of a Wes Anderson film is his distinctive dialogue, and this trailer is already rife with some classic lines. Here's my five favorite scenes: 5. [...]
Whats good bugz?! 3LAU (prnounced BLAU) has just dropped a dope EP showcasing his variety of talents and sounds when it comes to mash ups. Rhianna's "We Found Love" serves as the vocal base for the 3 tracks of choice, along with Dinka, Knife Party, Basto being thrown into the mix as well. He touches on big room house, heavier electro, and the progressive side, a little something for everyone's liking. The vegas-based producer has really been putting his mark on the mash-up game, spitting out tracks that showcase his skills on many levels. Hope you all enjoy bugz, Peace [...]

2012 is poised to be one of the greatest years in music in awhile. Why? Well, I'll give you a hint: it isn't because Justin Bieber is set to have an album coming out. In fact, I don't even know whether that's true or not. It's exciting because Phoenix, Spoon, Delta Spirit, Mumford & Sons, P.O.S., Passion Pit, Animal Collective, The Shins, Brother Ali, Dr. Dre, Miike Snow, Lana Del Rey, Andrew Bird, Sleigh Bells , and the xx are poised to release albums. That's not even including all of the new or smaller bands that will [...]

It's been a while since we've heard from Black Dice, nearly three years to be exact. But a new album, Mr. Impossible , was finally announced earlier this week and with that news came "Pigs", a delirious blast of disorienting noise that dissuades any notions that the band has lost their touch in the interim. If anything, "Pigs" is one of Black Dice's more catchy, accessible songs since their "Cone Toaster" experiment; it's abrasive and brash, but still makes room for melody and a head-nodding groove. If "Pigs" is any indication of Mr. Impossible as a whole, [...]
