wow. so good. taken from motionographer : - Countdown is a short movie/music video based on the music of Apparat . Directed, designed, animated and composed by Céline Desrumaux . - the track that's featured is "Granular Bastard" off of Apparat's 2003 release, Duplex . if you like what you hear, the rest of his albums/eps/singles are great. intellectual electronic glitchy kinda dub. gaaah nothing can be defined with one word anymore! how awesome. search for more of Apparat's tunes on [...]

Took a break on Thursday and came back for the Nocturne series, boasting the Canadian Premiere of many artists such as Actress, Jacek Sienkiewicz, Demdike Stare as well as the Bug's Kevin Martin a.k.a. King Midas Sound, Ikonika and many others. Tonight was going to be a night of techno and dubstep. Two genres that are normally never put together but this is Mutek! Variety is key. The night was going to be filled with dancing, staring, and holding our hearts because the bass might just rip it out...I was very, very excited. [...]

I haven't been to Mutek the previous years, but this year it is mainly focused on very lo-fi, minimal, experimental, and IDM type of music. Walking into the venue, I realised that it is not like most electronic music venues. Mutek is being held for the most part at Monument National, which is a huge venue that hosts many mini rooms that I imagine are more meant for orchestras, small theatre, plays, etc etc. I walked into the room and sat amongst everyone else, excited and curious. The huge screen was [...]

Hey everyone, just got back to LA from Coachella and am resting it up. Wow this year was so freakin' epic. Sorry for not having the mixtape out when I said it would be but now it will be changed 'cause of all the new music I just discovered. I will have a recap of Coachella as well as my mixtape I've been meaning to post probably in a few weeks. My best shows of the weekend were: Flying Lotus (wow), Orbital, Thom Yorke and Atoms For Peace, and Gil Scott-Heron. Though this has [...]

OK so end of school is here and the best part is...COACHELLA IN 12 DAYS! OK. So, like promised ages ago, mixtape is on the way...for real this time. Expect it within a week. It is pretty awesome. So this post is a quick recap of all the shows I went to in March. It was such a ridiculous time for concerts and I discovered some pretty great new bands. Jump ahead for recaps for Neon Indian, Braids, Silly Kissers, Air, Beach House, Bachelorette, Joanna Newsom, Flying Lotus and more! [...]

Merry Christmas everyone! Though I don't really celebrate this holiday and find it just like any other day...I figure I'd conform to the conventional gift giving and give you fellow readers some presents! In the form of music! Hoooorah! I never share full albums on this site because all the songs I post are samples in hope that you fall in love with the artist and support them by buying their albums and going to their shows and yada yada yada you know the deal! But I thought I'd make an exception on this holiday and share 3 favorite compilations [...]

Y'all know how much I love Jedi Electro . Ever since my discovery of them since the MJF, I have vowed to go see every single one of their shows in MTL, and I have. EVERY MONTH, they usually play at le S.A.T. which is close to the corner of Rene-Levesque and St. Laurent. All three shows were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Though they do recycle some of the same beats, every time it's a different product. Their music is completely improvised, and usually every show, there is a guest player/singer and the crowd always ends up being a 6th member [...]

Y'all all know how much I love Beast ...right? I saw them way way way back when I used to live in Edmonton at the tiniest venue that is the Pawn Shop. In the review that I gave directly after the show, I said that it was one of the best shows I've seen ever. And you know what, after tonight, I guess I'll have to take that back because shiiiiiiiiiiet tonight had NOTHING on the Pawn Shop show. After the jump for videos, music, and petit recap! [...]

Aaah the Cranberries. These Irish rockers have had a piece of my heart since forever. Every few months I relapse into a Cranberries phase, listening to nothing but Cranberries for weeks on end. Screaming to the top of my lungs to "Promises", "When You're Gone" and the many other songs that Dolores O'Riordan flawlessly sings with her ridiculously lovable voice. It's been seven years since they've done anything together. I love them. Love love love. I had to see them. One last time... It sold out it minutes and alas I did not have a ticket. Craigslist and [...]

Mmmm mmm mmmmmmmmmm. Merrill Beth Nisker, or as we all know her, Peaches, the foul-mouthed, androgynous, dick, tits, and all, has wowed the Montréal crowd once again at the Métropolis. Sporting capes, donning skin colored skin tight jump suits, and a flashing clit, Peaches is true to her own hype. She fuckin' rocks. With her cock out. For real. I am quite surprised that dildos did not make an appearance throughout the show. At least fake boobies did! Hooorah fake boobies! But first, a lady quite deserving of being a Peaches opener...Amanda Blank! Live [...]
Soulive is this funky jazz soul trio consisting of two brothers, Alan and Neal Evans, and Eric Krasno. All hail from the great state of NY. I had no idea who they were but my friend guaranteed I'd love them. And so off we went in search of the Bowery Ballroom. Inside lies black leather couches, candle lit tables, and an almost 20's esque ambiance to it. I felt as if everyone should have been wearing beaded dresses and pearls...but alas, we presumed the pretense of the place and fitted in accordingly with all the hipster attire. Drinks were [...]

Moby is probably one of the most underrated electronic artists nowadays...after having released three albums in the past four years and yes, hitting the top a few times in European electronic dance charts with a slew of singles unheard by most others, Moby is still just "that guy that did 'Southside' with Gwen!". I think in the mainstream, he is best known for this song. And no lie, "Southside" is one of the greatest songs of the decade for sure! But c'mon! This is Moby. Moby, who quit punk in early 90's, joined electronica, quit techno in 1992 (as he [...]
