Saturday Main Stage headliners played a very impressive set at Oxegen 2010, opening with my favourite song of theirs 'Plug in Baby', and playing a feast of other people's favourites. Of the new material, an extended version of 'Uprising' from the new album was a highlight. Setlist: Plug In Baby Supermassive Black Hole Unnatural Selection [...]
Arcade Fire played the final slot on the Main Stage on Friday night to headline the opening day of Oxegen 2010. They played a mix of old songs from their first two albums as well as new ones from their upcoming record The Suburbs. Setlist: Keep the Car Running Modern Man Neighborhood #2 (Laika) No [...]
Following The Black Keys on the main stage are the band being touted as many people’s highlight of the festival so far come Friday night. Though perhaps this accolade is easier received in circumstances which saw Vampire Weekend as one of the only bands some saw on the opening day of Oxegen 2010. Taking to the stage in the late afternoon looking chipper and upbeat as they bound around the stage Vampire Weekend are intent on keeping the quickly expanding crowd in high spirits in spite of the profound downturn in the weather. “Summer’s not just [...]

Aeroplane (Friday) Since the departure of his partner Stephen Fasano, Belgian Vito Deluca is Aeroplane. Raised amid the smoky gray of the industrial Brussels suburbs he makes music with an Italo-disco flair. He is responsible for some of the finest remixes of the past couple of years, most notably Sebastian Tellier’s ‘Kilometer’ . Aeroplane have a huge cross genre appeal blending pop tones, psychedelic guitars, balaeric bounce, synth waves and disco beats with transcending and mesmerising force. Vitalic (Friday) He [...]

With Oxegen 2010 just one day away, I thought I'd help remind you of what makes the festival so special. This list is for those of us who are not going, and also those of us who are busy packing those last essential items before we have to get the Dublin Bus to the campsite [...]
Vampire Weekend (Main Stage, Friday) The highlight of Oxegen 2008, these New Yorkers are the ultimate festival band. As tight as a fish’s bottom and as much fun as you can have in public with your clothes on, Vampire Weekend cordially invite you to jump up and down like you haven’t done since you used to queue to get into the pit in the SFX (or maybe that’s just us). Frightened Rabbit (2FM / Hot Press Academy Stage, Friday) [...]
It happens every year: a vicious rumour that one of the headline acts has cancelled. Sometimes, it's true. Remember The Flaming Lips replaced White Stripes at 20042s Witnness due to Jack White's broken hand. The current rumour circling Twitter and fans is that Eminem has cancelled T in the Park and Oxegen too is NOT TRUE. The official Twitter account for T in the Park says otherwise so we suspect it's just nonsense really. Also today, DJ Tiesto is not dead . However, we did hear that Beyonce is performing with [...]
Mayer Hawthorne (Hot Press Academy, Sunday) On the strength of his astounding debut LP, A Strange Arrangement , Mayer Hawthorne's set promises to be the smoothest and certainly most soulful of the weekend. As well as some definite retro Motown grooves, Hawthorne's music has a J. Dilla edge creating a sound that is both classic and nu-soul, also making him State's top recommendation for the weekend. Local Natives (Red Bull Music Academy, Sunday) Local Natives are no strangers to Ireland, [...]
Unlike some of the other Oxegen 2010 previews, I'm not just going to list 5 or so artists to check out, I'm going to tell you who to see and at what times over the entire weekend. Here's Part 3: Sunday, 11th July 2010. All times are approximate. Check the full schedule below for exact [...]
Hudson Mohawke (Red Bull Academy, Sunday) Last year, the fresh-faced (like really fresh-faced) young producer opened the Dance Arena on the Sunday. This year, Glasgow's Hudmo has experience and fans from last year's Butter album and constant touring that may see his headline slot on Sunday in the more suitable surroundings of the Red Bull Academy Stage as the perfect antidote to those who have no interest in seeing The Prodigy and Eminem. Hot Chip (Heineken Green Spheres, Saturday) [...]

For those of you travelling to Kildare this weekend for Oxegen, here's a full line-up for stages across the three days. So no Flo for me this weekend then. Stupid tonsils...
Unlike some of the other Oxegen 2010 previews, I'm not just going to list 5 or so artists to check out, I'm going to tell you who to see and at what times over the entire weekend. Here's Part 2: Saturday, 10th July 2010. All times are approximate. Check the full schedule below for exact [...]
Even with no IMRO Stage this year, Oxegen still features its fair share of home grown acts - mainly on the Academy stage but also on some of the larger ones. Here's our pick of the bunch: 1. Villagers (Academy Stage, Friday) The Irish band of the year so far without a doubt (so far anyway) continue their inexorable rise. A prime spot on the first day can only add to their status. 2. O Emperor (Academy Stage, Friday) We tipped them [...]

A list of personally recommended events taking place over the next seven days in Dublin and beyond. All times are 7.30pm/8pm unless stated. Feel free to leave your picks in the comments.
