It has just been revealed that the next single to be released from Laura Marling 's fantastic album I Speak Because I Can (read my review of it here ), will be "Rambling Man". The song, which happens to be my favourite on the album, carries a beautiful melody and is filled with lush harmonies that will continue to play out over and over again in your head. Check out the new video for "Rambling Man" below. Laura Marling's US Tour kicked off yesterday in Chicago, which [...]

23 year Ross Birchard, aka HUDSON MOHAWKE , is on the cusp of making it big. His slant on dance music is wholly unique. A sloppy, glitchy, soulful mix of hip-hop, two-step and IDM it’s only a matter of time before some journo slaps a label on it and a new genre is born. Ok, someone has, but its needs to be a bit snappier than “aqua-crunk-step”. Recently signed to Warp Records Birchard released his Polyfolk Dance EP earlier this summer. Second on the bill in the Dance Shed Hudson Mohawke is one of many acts suffering [...]
A lot of Sunday is spent at a relaxed pace and wandering in and out of tents to check out stuff just because it's nearby. This pot luck approach leads to a minor revelation with THE MACCABEES , a once jaunty, but lightweight Brighton based guitar band who have recently recast themselves as a more aspirant proposition with a recent album, the earnest Wall of Arms , making a vault from the indie-landfill with lots of big Arcade Fire shaped songs. Even without being too familiar with all of their material, it is clear that here is a [...]

Another Hockey match at The Academy
After their Academy gig last month, an Oxegen show and a double headliner with Passion Pit at Whelan's in March, US new wave revivalists Hockey continue their live Irish onslaught with a return to Dublin's Academy on February 28 next year. The band's debut album Mind Chaos is out now, and its blend of infectious power-pop and dance-punk workouts really kicks off on the live stage. Touring keyboard player Ryan Dolliver had to miss the band's last Academy show after he "spent 2 days in a dublin hospital [...]

Oxegen Sunday – The Specials / Jane’s Addiction / Florence & The Machine
All day State has been worried. Although the weather has finally cleared up and we have had a largely positive day, still something is bothering us and it's the imminent arrival of The Specials. Our worry is this - if Blur's mid-nineties repertoire proved a little too much like ancient history for the Oxegen masses on Friday, what the hell we they make of a 2-Tone retrospective? When we arrive at the main stage our fears look like being realised, it's pretty empty with most people seemingly over at Katy Perry. Oh well, we decide that this is too good [...]
