As part of their UK & Ireland tour to promote their eccentric new album Congratulations , MGMT will return to Ireland to play the Olympia Theatre. They'll be performing tunes from the new album, as well as favourites from the first ('Kids', 'Time to Pretend', and all those hits you climbed scaffolding in Oxegen to see) on September 16th. As of now, there's no dates pencilled in for the following three nights, so if this sells out quickly, I wouldn't rule out a second night. Don't quote me on that though, if you really want to go [...]

For all of you who went to Oxegen this year, and bopped to the likes of Tiga and Crookers, well you'll be glad to know that 2fm recorded these sets and aired them over the weekend! Listening to these make us feel like we are back in the dance arena all over again! Download Tiga here Download Crookers here ENJOY!
All day State has been worried. Although the weather has finally cleared up and we have had a largely positive day, still something is bothering us and it's the imminent arrival of The Specials. Our worry is this - if Blur's mid-nineties repertoire proved a little too much like ancient history for the Oxegen masses on Friday, what the hell we they make of a 2-Tone retrospective? When we arrive at the main stage our fears look like being realised, it's pretty empty with most people seemingly over at Katy Perry. Oh well, we decide that this is too good [...]
The desk blew in the first few minutes, the band went 10 minutes over time, but regardless of all that, it was a marvelous outing from the Chapters at Oxegen on Sunday at the Hot Press New Bands Stage. Setlist: Looking for love Juice Automobiles Ukiyo Ukrainian Gymnast Perfect Stranger Moving Videotapes Black Room Trying to get Ahead

A lot of Sunday is spent at a relaxed pace and wandering in and out of tents to check out stuff just because it's nearby. This pot luck approach leads to a minor revelation with THE MACCABEES , a once jaunty, but lightweight Brighton based guitar band who have recently recast themselves as a more aspirant proposition with a recent album, the earnest Wall of Arms , making a vault from the indie-landfill with lots of big Arcade Fire shaped songs. Even without being too familiar with all of their material, it is clear that here is a [...]

For much of the day on Sunday, Oxegen's main stages resemble the playlist from a local radio station - Calvin Harris, Lady Gaga, Paul Nutini, Katy Perry - so thank heavens for THE TINGS TINGS , the band who make sense of pop music in these challenging circumstances. Having suffered something of a nightmare at T In The Park the day before, the smooth running of their Irish experience has obviously lifted their spirits. Another of the bands to work their way through the festival ranks, last year The Ting Tings took many surprise with their storming Green Room [...]
When THE SAW DOCTORS stroll out onto the main stage in the early afternoon a nostalgic feeling of Irish festivals past floats through the air. People are sitting out on the woodchip covered slope and GAA jerseys and flags start to materialise out of nowhere. The first drop of rain has yet to fall, so the old timers from Galway luck out with the weather. Their set is as predictable as you'd expect, but it's delivered with such cheery gusto that it would take a heart of stone not to enjoy it. When Davy Carton hollers out the [...]

This year it is definitely the year of the pop princesses at Oxegen , with the big three of the moment - Lily Allen, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga - all keeping the tabloids happy. With the latter two playing sets on the big stages on Sunday, it's irresistible to see their appearances as a face-off and judge them on their relative merits. However, what might have been a neck and neck finish quickly becomes a one horse race, as LADY GAGA 's set on the main stage fizzles out in front of a disengaged audience who seem [...]
As everyone will testify, Saturday afternoon / evening at Oxegen is a tough one for all concerned - bands, crew and especially the audience. What we need now is an early dose of classic songwriting and a band who can create an atmosphere to transcends the gloomy conditions. Ta-da, step forward SQUEEZE . Of the three classic British bands from across the eras making their return this weekend, they have been largely forgotten but their early afternoon main stage set is just the tonic we need. The first, confusing, thing we notice is that they sound SO [...]
Nine Inch Nails wouldn't be quite what you'd expect to find at Oxegen on Stage 2, but then again you wouldn't expect to see The Game. Oh wait, you never got to see him. They were damn good though. Setlist: Home 1,000,000 Terrible Lie Discipline March of the Pigs Something I Can Never Have The Becoming The Big Come Down Burn Wish The Hand That Feeds Head Like A Hole Hurt

One half of Hailfairy is home, clean and dry after a manic few days at Oxegen. The other half is still lost in Serbia at Exit festival and has promised to post an Exit roundup home his return to Ireland. With so many highlights over the Sat and Sun at Oxegen it's hard to know where to start so here goes the chronological breakdown. For a better idea of the atmosphere, you have to read Jim Carroll's Round up on Irishtimes.com. Also have [...]
Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds drew an impressive enough crowd on Saturday night at the O2 Stage as they clashed with Kings of Leon. James sent me in this setlist, thanks very much to him! Setlist: 'Papa Won't Leave You Henry' 'Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!' 'Red Right Hand' 'Deanna' 'Midnight Man' 'The Ship Song' 'Henry Lee' 'Tupelo' 'We Call Upon The Author' 'The Mercy Seat' 'The Weeping Song' 'There She Goes My Beautiful World' 'Stagger Lee' 'Get Ready For Love' 'Lucy'
The Killers brought Oxegen 2009 to a close on Sunday night on the Main Stage. They played a nice little acoustic 'Smile Like You Mean It', but as I've said before, they're not headline material. They're much more a studio band than a live band. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds would've been a much better headliner. Setlist: Human Spaceman Mr. Brightside All These Things The world we live in For Reasons Unknown (extended version) Smile Like you mean it (acoustic) Somebody told me Bling Dusltand Fairytale Jenny Shadowplay Sam's Town When You were Young Read My Mind [...]
James Morrison annoyed everyone by singing 'Please Don't Stop the Rain' on Saturday on the Main Stage at Oxegen 2009, and his wishes were answered, as blue sky didn't appear til Sunday. Setlist: 'Please Don't Stop the Rain' The Only Night' 'Under The Influence' 'You Give Me Something' 'Broken Strings' 'If You Don't Wanna Love Me' 'Precious Love' 'Nothing Ever Hurt Like You' 'Call The Police'

Oxegen is Kings Of Leon's world, we only pass through it once a year. If anyone had doubted the wisdom of booking the band back for a second consecutive headliner they need only have tried to make their way anywhere around the main stage late on Saturday night. There is no spare inch of grass / mud to be had anywhere, even right up to the food stalls. Clearly, this is the band that people want to see. What that does mean though is that the life is sucked out of every other stage for those two hours. [...]
Saturday night's Main Stage headliners at Oxegen 2009 probably brought the biggest crowd of all. Kings of Leon sell out everywhere they play in Ireland, and the field was full for them this weekend. Setlist: 'Be Somebody' 'Taper Jean Girl' 'My Party' 'Molly's Chambers' 'Red Morning Light' 'Fans' 'Closer' 'Crawl' 'Four Kicks' 'Charmer' 'Sex On Fire' 'The Bucket' 'Notion' 'On Call' 'Slow Night, So Long' 'Knocked Up' 'Manhattan' 'Use Somebody' 'Devil Song' Watch 'Molly's Chambers' live at Oxegen 2009:
Karen O and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs played an excellent set on Saturday on the Main Stage at Oxegen, with a mixture of hits old and new. The new ones sound really great live. Setlist: Runaway Sealings Cheated Hearts Black Tongue Heads Will Roll Zero Turn Into Skeletons Soft Shock Gold Lion Honey Bear Date with the Night Maps
Passion Pit played the Hot Press New Bands Stage on Saturday and truly were one of the highlights of the festival for those who were in the know. I'm missing some of the songs from the setlist (as I wasn't in the know, or else I was at Bruce Springsteen or something), so please tell me what's missing. Little Secrets The Reeling Sleepyhead
Lily Allen played the Main Stage on a rainy Friday at Oxegen 2009, but the fans didn't mind as she brought her summery pop to the masses. Setlist: 'Everyone's At It' 'I Could Say' '22' 'Oh My God' 'L.D.N.' 'Go Back To The Start' 'Littlest Things' 'Smile' 'The Fear' 'Womanizer' 'Fuck You' 'Not Fair'
