Oxford four-piece MMX released their debut EP earlier this year. A collection of ice cold synth-pop beauties, these are dark diamonds that shine very brightly. The group have just unveiled a video for it's closing track, 'Ritual'. The monchrome clip sees the band perform the track in near darkness, which nicely captures the sound of this nocturnal noise. The track itself is strong. Shards of synth and spacey guitar weave in and out of each other underneath an emotive, soaring vocal. Basically, it's really good yeh. MMX's Child EP is out now [...]

Recent signees to Paul Epwoth’s new label Wolf Note label, Oxford’s Glass Animals have debuted their new single “Black Mambo”. Sadly, not referencing Kobe Bryant, the moody R&B-flavored cut uses Dave Bayley’s dangerously seductive voice to lull you into a despairing daze. There’s just enough haunting carnival magic to add a creepy atmosphere, especially as the drip-drop bleeps start to make their presence felt. As Peter Silberman-esque melodies star dripping in near the end, you start to realize how brilliant this all is.

In new music blogging there’s definitely an ever-present element of optimism, and rightly so. In reality, we’re dealing with embryonic projects, so you either lapse into silence or stick it all on red and see what happens. It’s only regrettably rarely that a band pops up with such a steady approach and singular sound that the prospect of a debut album starts to look like a seriously exciting prospect, but the more that Glass Animals release, the more that looks to be the case. “Black Mambo” is their long overdue follow up to last year’s “Leaflings” [...]

Oxford's Spring Offensive create soothing, rhythmic music with harmonies that are so delicate they can be bone-chilling. And yea, AMBY likes music that has that unexpected affect on us. AMBY caught up with Spring Offensive's Matt and Lucas to chat about attaching a camera to dancers, "Being Spring Offensive", and playing a show to a dog! AMBY: How would you describe Spring Offensive's sound to those unfamiliar with your music? Spring Offensive: It depends on who they are. If they are elderly, I talk about the harmonies and story-telling in [...]

Delivered with a touch of French class and a glimmer of Toulouse charisma, 23-year-old Martin Sayker is committed in turning progressive music into a mansion filled house of enchantments. His collaborations with newcomers Mad Arm , Wexon , Kid Olson , Oxford and Tom Floyd seem to open up a doorway of fantastic melody, plus a driving intensity which keeps the dancefloor moving till 7am. Putting key emphasis on the kick drum and the over-buoyant choice of melodies, Martin Sayker’s own sole touch on ‘Olsen Rules,’ ‘Seventy Kids,’ ‘Midnight’ and ‘Space Mansion’ [...]
Foals and the Neighbourhood bring it to San Francisco for purple-hazed, strobe-lit Fillmore performance.

CANDY SAYS make "Lo-fi chich po"”, as they say. And they don’t record their music ina studio like normal bands do but in a garage. Only one reason why NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION thinks that these Brits got a certain potential and something quite special. It turns out that ' lo-fi chic pop ' sounds exactly as you imagine it to. Sugar-sweet vocals, Psychocandy -era percussion and a whole heap of yearning, served with a big, juicy slice of cool. Candy Says are a four-piece from Oxford, and they do lo-fi chic pop splendidly. New cut Favourite Flavour is a hazy hop, skip and jump through classic indie-pop and we fully expect them to all be effortlessly handsome and devilishly well-dressed too. There's far more about them than that, however. Both tracks on their new Cool For Cats- released [...]
Haw, their fourth album carries on the fantastic journey that the duo of MC Taylor and Scott Hirsch have been taking through the heartlands of American music. Having explored blues, swamp rock and folk amongst other genres on previous albums, it is the shadow of Nashville that rises high over this album. By Martyn Coppack

Stornoway’s Tales From Terra Firma continues to set them apart from the brooding bands of today.

Oxford's new five-piece indie sensation SPRING OFFENSIVE released the video for their new single No Assets. They only used 12 chest-mounted iPhone cameras to film it, so you can see twelve little frames in which the pictures are swirling and twirling around to the sound of "if we're serious then we should start saving"... that The post Spring Offensive reveal video for new single "No Assets" appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .

Oxford newbies MMX are blowing us away with their recent single “Stay”. A large soundscape becomes immediately present, and once the delectable harmony-filled chorus hits, you’ll know you have landed on something special. It’s a mountainous achievement in coming up with extremely accessible indie rock. This is taken from their debut EP Child , available now .

It boggles our mind how a band as good as MMX has yet to receive any mention on Hype Machine. The Oxford four-piece's debut Child EP is the kind of music that sends chills through your body upon first listen. Imagine hitting play on Coldplay or Snow Patrol for the first time and you'll begin to get an idea of what MMX is all about. We're particularly infatuated with "Stay," Child 's lead single that honestly gives Chris Martin and co. a run for their money. Stream [...]
OXFORD folk group Stornoway look poised to ride the wave of alt-folk giants like Mumford & Sons' success - but sadly, they really only look the part. While dressing like Mumford & Sons' sons, and sounding appropriately folky, they're unfortunately lacking in enough substance on their album, Tales From Terra Firma. Their shtick is one of a middle ground between folk bands like Beirut and journeyman indie acts like James, and while jolly enough to listen to, nothing on the LP really stays with you in the way peers like Laura Marling or Noah And The Whale can. [...]
No one artist has ever been able to so simultaneously coexist in the inherently contrasting parallel universes of the underground and the overblown quite like Thom Yorke. Tonight, he plays a refurbished marquee-like expanse around the back of Hackney Road in the shadow of the sinister gas holders that preside over the E2 skyline so, two decades on to the day from the release of Radiohead's much since lionised début, Pablo Honey . He is a creature of contradistinction – what Tyler, The Creator may deem seething: "a fucking walking paradox." And just days later, it is his squinting [...]
