Last month Jim James performed an intimate show at the pop-up venue that hosts the much-buzzed about theater presentation Sleep No More in New York City. Pitchfork spoke with James about Sleep No More, technology addiction and much more for a clip that was just posted on site . In addition to the interview, James and his band perform State Of The Art... [via Pitchfork ]

by Andrew Sacher Angel Haze at Villain - 10/19/12 (via @wolverskulkbrecht ) You already know what I thought of Merchandise's set at the Pitchfork showcase at Villain in Brooklyn on Friday night (10/19). Here's a bit on the rest of the stuff I saw. Rapper Angel Haze was on when I walked in and she was probably the best act I saw at the whole show. She delivers with [...]

It's safe to say that a majority of our readers are quite familiar with the musical history of Port Chester, New York's Capitol Theatre . Built in 1926 and designed by the architect Thomas W. Lamb, who also designed the United Palace Theater in Upper Manhattan, the theater may be most famous for hosting the Grateful Dead an astonishing 18 times during an 11-month period, but also saw just about every major and influential music act grace its stage from Pink Floyd, Traffic, Joe Cocker and Janis Joplin (who played her next-to-last show there) in the early 19702s to [...]

For the last seven years, influential music website Pitchfork has curated an eclectic multi-day music festival in their hometown of Chicago, IL, while later this month they will present their first festival overseas in Paris. Yesterday, the New York Times Arts Beat blog broke the news that P4K would be expanding its empire to the Big Apple, where they already have offices, this winter by teaming up with the folks at Bowery Presents for a new multi-day fest that they are dubbing Forms . Scheduled to take place from February 1-4 at Bowery booked venues [...]
Catching the afternoon set by punk supergroup OFF! during this past year's Pitchfork Music Festival was both the best thing and the worst thing to happen on Saturday . These vets performed with more intensity than acts half their age. Vocalist, Keith Morris, was one of the most engaging personalities of the weekend, too. Between songs he'd take the persona of the older, wiser punk gentleman, giving advice and watching out for the audience. Once first the first hardcore riff hit, however, he was pure rage. The unfortunate part of OFF!'s set [...]

With the Grateful Dead's massive, drool-inducing Europe '72 box set set to finally roll out this fall, the band's 22-date tour will once again be mined for a scaled-down companion release for those that didn't want to pony up for all 73 discs. The latest compendium will come in the form of a 2-disc set simply dubbed Europe '72, Vol. 2 , and will feature 22 previously unreleased tracks, as well as new cover art by Stanley Mouse. According to the Dead's archivist David Lemieux, who compiled the released, "This album, coupled with Europe ’72, represents a [...]
Tweet You haven't heard from me about the band in Heaven for nigh-on nine months now, and you might not have even heard about them at all, so for those of you who fall int that category here's what you need to know. A duo from Florida, they use their craft to bundle up snappy and harmonious firecrackers that sound as though they're being let loose via burning amps. If that sounds like your bag then check out my intro piece [...]

For the last seven years, including 2011, influential music website Pitchfork has curated their own eclectic multi-day music festival in their hometown of Chicago, IL. Come this fall P4K will take things over seas to stage their first ever event in Paris. Set to take place on October 28 & 29 at La Grande Halle de la Villette, the two-day event is set to feature over 20 bands and DJs. As an added bonus Saturday night's festivities will not only be headlined by Bon Iver, but will also feature a number of bands hand selected by the [...]

This song came back into my head via a post from David Taylor (of Media Arts Lab) on Selectism.com . Jai Paul's a London musician/producer who here combines synths, lasers, a simple yet heavy beat with delicate pop falsettos chiming "Don't fuck with me". Check out the killer track " BTSTU " (via P4k ).

Long have I followed the career of Smog , or Bill Callahan , as we know him now, so when he became one of the many musicians to move to Austin, I was hopping with joy, hoping we'd get to see more of him around town. We have been so lucky, as he popped up on numerous occasions, not to mention random talks, such as his upcoming appearance at Book People on April 10th. But, more important is his music, and P4k premiered a new song yesterday from the gent in preparation [...]
A couple of weeks ago our ears were accosted by funky funk and the funky bunch, otherwise known as Toro Y Moi' s latest single "New Beat" . With his second album "Underneath The Pine" released on February 22nd, he's now accosted us with some less-than-funky visuals, instead opting for tear gas.....Yeah that's not much fun, or is it? I could probably have some fun with tear gas, an empty room, and a cage full of ravenous Rolling Stone/Village Voice writers trying desperately to hold onto the belief that print is not dead (print [...]
![[Listen] -New Song By Beach Fossils – “What A Pleasure”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3174986_lg.jpg)
Beach Fossils narrowly missed out on my Top 31 Albums of 2010 list with their stellar-but-not-quite-as-stell ar-as-some-other-albums-releas ed-last-year-like-the-31-other s-that-did-make-it-to-the-list album "Beach Fossils". This is the second song we've heard from the "What A Pleasure" EP coming out February 22nd via Captured Tracks , the first being "Calyer" , and along with the first one, "What A Pleasure" doesn't really stray too far off course from the regular Beach Fossils sound. Their second album comes out in April so it's set to be another busy year for these dudes, and hopefully one that's doubly as successful. Connect with [...]
![[Listen] – New Song By Toro Y Moi – “New Beat”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3156242_lg.jpg)
It's unclear as to whether this song will be released as a single or not, but a few hours this new song from Toro Y Moi 's upcoming second album showed up outta nowhere, standing in the rain and begging to be played. It's kinda weird that a new song from a new album turned up and not the whole album itself, so maybe it was done purposely? Doubt it. Never know? Nope. It's a tight jam though, heavy on the porn-synths and weak on the voice, but not as good as "Still Sound" though. [...]
"Causers Of This", Toro Y Moi 's debut album released in early 2010, was a good album, it just wasn't great. I listened to it multiple times whilst laying out in the sun over the course of last summer and every time I fell asleep, not because it was boring, but because it was so damn dreamy. "Still Sound" , the first cut from his second album "Underneath The Pine" out on February 22nd via Carpark, and if this song holds true through the rest of the album it's gonna be better than "Causers Of This". [...]
![[Watch] – New Video by Tennis – “Pigeon”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3101745_lg.jpg)
Uhhh....what the fridge? I can only assume that this was made with the sole intention of having nothing to do with the band name ( Tennis ), the song name ( "Pigeon" ), or the theme of the song ( love ), because it's a magician, doing magic tricks. Oh, and he's in dark room, possibly with his captors in the corner just outta sight yelling at him in Chinese to get on with it or the bunny dies. I have to say this though, I've listened to Tennis' album a few times since it leaked [...]
Being Scottish and living in the U.S. it's guaranteed that people will make fun of my accent, but it's also guaranteed I'm gonna make fun of theirs too. At a point of frustration or when something happens that they kinda wish hadn't, people here will say "Awww man", but to me it sounds more like "Awwww meeyaannn". Why the fuck am I telling you this? Because when the band in Heaven's demos had stopped playing on their Bandcamp page I let out a legit "Meyan", it was just that good (I'm finished writing this post now but going [...]
The Pitchfork Music Festival is a week behind us so I wanted to take a quick look back at what took place, and break down the various good and bad aspects of the fest. It’s hard to argue that the event wasn’t a resounding success. Outside of the oppressive heat that always seems to show up around P4K weekend there are few major complaints from me and from what I gather most everyone else that attended. Let’s start with the good: [...]
