Why was the plug really pulled on HARD L.A. this weekend? The Times' initial blog post cited security reasons, possibly stemming from the public outcry over the death of a 15-year-old festival-goer at the recent Electric Daisy Carnival. The updated post has promoter Gary Richards declining to comment when point-blanked on whether slow ticket sales were behind the cancellation. Band of Horses , Sea Wolf , and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are among the bands taking part in a benefit show to raise money for children's cancer research. When Laura Ann Masura's longtime friend Josiah Mazzaschi heard she had been injured in a motorcycle accident, he didn't sit on his hands. He got on the phone. Mazzaschi, the frontman of local indie-rock band Light FM , has organized a benefit concert, Jam for Laura Ann, on Sunday at the Echoplex to help Masura, a fellow musician and also a bartender at the downtown's Redwood Bar, defray some $15,000 in medical expenses. Details on funeral arrangements and a memorial service for Pablo Castelaz, the 6-year-old son of Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz who died of cancer on Saturday, have been posted on the PABLOg! website. In addition, it was announced today that the concert Wednesday night at the Echo featuring Dangerbird bands Eulogies and Bad Veins , along with Avi Buffalo , will be a benefit for the Pablove Foundation , the charitable group launched in the youngster's honor that benefits the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
