Joker is giving away a .zip file with instrumental versions of his latest album The Vision which dropped on iTunes on Oct 28th. Brand Minimalism

Mehmet Gozetlik decided to explore what would happen if he stripped down the packaging of iconic brands to the bare minimum. The results are fantastic and represent the kind of branding that always pulls me in. I'd love to see a real-world study on how effective these "minimal-ized" were on the general public (not just designers). Do you think they would do better? My personal favorite results here have to be Jelly Belly, Nutella, and Guinness. The Dieline via Jeff Toll [...]

Ducats 1980s Milk Packaging

Ducats 1980s Milk Packaging Tears of joy would stream from my eyes if this were under my tree Christmas morning. It is now that I can fully appreciate the simple solutions of such design—less is more. It just makes me sad to know that the chance of this ever happening again on mainstream packaging is slim to never. Via Wanken / Re:collection

Dutch Packaging

Dutch Packaging Some great examples of packaging design by Dutch artist Louis Swart. Swart got his start as early as age thirteen and was quoted at that time as saying 'I am striving not to become the grand old man of the profession, but to close my design doors when I reach forty-five'. So not only was he a designer at 13, he was getting interviews, pretty incredible. I recognize those Albert Hein logos in there. As I recall, the current in-house brand has not carried on this tradition. More on Swart and his work over [...]

Stillhouse Moonshine

Stillhouse Moonshine If the packaging for Stillhouse Moonshine doesn't make you want to have an entire bar full of cutout books with booze inside, or be a bootlegger, well, then, I'm not sure we can be friends. Notcot got the goods , as they usually do, and I would urge you to bop over there to check out the immaculate details put forth by Stillhouse for their limited edition series, which only produced 500 of these packages. Looks like a bottle of their moonshine will set you back about $80 if you buy it online - [...]

Esteban Guitar Package

Esteban Black Silver Steel String Guitar Package
Law of Attraction: Sarah, Her Guitar and You I just walked downstairs and saw Sarah, my 12 year old on the front stoop. She's strumming her new guitar like an old pro. She sounds great for someone who's been playing for 48 hours. It makes sense. She spent part of last year's sixth grade music class [...]

Club d'Elf Tour: Starts Tonight

Club d'Elf Tour: Starts Tonight For years now, Club d'Elf has been one of the best-kept secrets in the Northeast music scene. They've have amassed quite an underground following with a regular residency at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, MA and occasional shows elsewhere in the area. Who is this band you may have never heard of? Club d'Elf is the brainchild of bassist Mike Rivard and a rotating cast of musicians that includes John Medeski (MMW), Steven Bernstein (Sex Mob), Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie), Sam Kininger (Soulive) and a wide range of other musicians that constantly evolves. Pepsi To Release New Skinny Can

Can a soda can be sassy? Pepsi thinks so. Diet Pepsi will soon be available in a "taller, sassier new Skinny Can" that the company says is a "celebration of beautiful, confident women. The new can - which stands just more than six inches in height - will make its debut at New York's Fall 2011 fashion week later this month, but it won't hit stores until March. "Our slim, attractive new can is the perfect complement to today's most stylish looks," said Jill Beraud, chief marketing officer at Pepsi. "We're excited to throw its coming-out party, during the [...]

To-Genkyo

To-Genkyo To-Genkyo is a Kyoto based studio specializing in product design. Their stated goal is to "make a small utopia of daily life" which I'd say sounds like a good plan. Among their innovative product designs is an hourglass shaped label which reacts to ammonia released by aging food giving a clear visual indication of it's freshness. Great idea, I hope this actually makes it from concept to the shelves. Sorry, no clue what "milk soap" is. To-Genkyo via Swiss Miss Permalink | [...]

Kristin Agnarsdottir: Knoll Paint

Kristin Agnarsdottir: Knoll Paint Knoll paint! Sorry, it's not real. These mock ups were made by Kristin Agnarsdottir for a package design class. Really amazing stuff, and I was just complaining about how bad packaging is these days . More over at Kristin Agnarsdottir's site (cool logo too!) Graphis Packaging 3

Graphis Packaging 3 Some excellent examples from Graphis Packaging 3 . I can say without any doubt in my mind, that packaging design has declined significantly over the past 20 years. Take a look at the more recent Graphis Packaging 9 . Nothing in there even remotely piques my interest. I would love to hear a reasonable explanation of this phenomenon. Is it that marketing departments have slowly wrested control from true designers? Or is it just that I personally appreciate the style of a specific era to the current one? Or maybe I'm just so used to the style of [...]

Luminous Cereal Boxes

Fulton Innovation has figured out a way to make sugary cereal more appealing to little kids, by turning them into a Times Square billboard . The "intelligent cereal box" uses metallic-ink-based circuitry to animate the packaging, but the technology also has broader implications such as allowing various products to communicate with your smart phone ("a frying pan could alert you when your food is simmering" or "you could use your phone to check how much milk you have left in your refrigerator" and possibly a "self-heating can of soup"). Good things comes in … cool packages

Double Pop out CD case by ACDSleeve from Indie Riviera on Vimeo .

Tube-Free Toilet Paper

Tube-Free Toilet Paper The toilet paper roll is about to undergo its biggest change in 100 years: going tubeless. On Monday, Kimberly-Clark, one of the world's biggest makers of household paper products, will begin testing Scott Naturals Tube-Free toilet paper at Walmart and Sam's Club stores throughout the Northeast. If sales take off, it may introduce the eco friendly line nationally and globally — and even consider adapting the technology into its paper towel brands. The holes in the rolls aren't perfectly round but they do fit over TP spindles and come with this promise: Even the last piece [...]
