Perhaps the best thing about being a music blogger is discovering new music that is local. Melbourne dudes Pageants are set to release their debut LP in March entitled Dark Before Blonde Dawn through killer Melbourne label Sensory Projects. If first cut Pleasure Perched In The Parlour Palms (say that 10 times quickly) is anything to [...]

So as rich as 2011 proved to be for local music, 2012 promises even more. Following is Buzz Bands LA's list of "Bands to Watch" for 2012 — 33 newbies who have not yet released a full-length album and are on our radar to do so in the coming year. Whom did I miss? Leave a comment. Pictured above: Hands. After the jump, the list, alphabetically: Black Flamingo — Full-length in the works, and if anything on it sounds like "Golden [...]

Photo By Keitha Haycock. I've been sitting on this mix tape for quite some time now, it's had a fair amount of changes and tracks added. It's the fourth addition to the "For We Are Young & Free" series, to be honest I really enjoy scouring through tracks to see what works together. I hope you enjoy this edition. Featuring are Australian artists such as: Leagues, The Rubens, The Sunny Days, Bearhug, Pageants, Oliver Tank, The Grates/Whyte Fang, Seekae, Bell Weather Department, Faith Lee, Lynton & Mushu . Don't forget, [...]
Via It's still unclear how much Rebecca Coleman's departure will affect Avi Buffalo. After a near-perfect debut album, Avi's been floating around East L.A., playing shows with rappers and uploading bizarro bedroom recordings to Soundcloud; not exactly the harbinger of a glorious LP2. Coleman, though, soldiers on: her new band, Pageants, plays the sort of bright, yelpy indie-pop Avi Buffalo did in its less guitar-heroic moments, and "Edible Rust" may be the band's best yet. Real Estate fans will catch similar vibes from the jangling chords, but it's Coleman's shrill voice that shines like a lighthouse [...]

On September 30th we are presenting the first of a series of "Best of 2011" shows to finish off the year. While it may seem a bit early for such a night, we've been anxious to put this show together all year, and the sooner we do so the sooner you'll become as big a fan as we are of these bands.Pageants made their debut show on the very first day of 2011 at pehrspace. A room full of friends

Last year, HT faves Umphrey's McGee announced they would be moving their traditional New Year's Run from Chicago starting in '11 - '12 and continuing for the foreseeable future. At that time fans started speculating about cities that might host the prog-jammers and that discussion focused around Denver, Atlanta and NYC. One city that flew under Umphreaks' radar was St. Louis and today we've found out that Umphrey's will bring the NYE festivities to The Pageant in St. Louis from December 29 - 31. Single-day tickets [...]

It's hot where we live. If you're in the northern hemisphere, it's probably hot where you live. I you live in New Zealand, it's probably cool and breezy, but there are Hobbits where you live, so we still kind of win. Heat like we're getting in Cleveland makes me want to listen to two very specific kinds of music: 1.) Understated guitar music with lots of fuzz (real or imagined) and (preferably) a lady singer. The best single example of this kind of hot weather music is probably that one Mazzy Star [...]

Rebecca Coleman may have parted ways with Avi Buffalo , but she hasn't left music behind. Forming a new band called Pageants with another ex-Buffalo, Arin Fazio, Coleman is now offering more than backing vocals. Fleshing out the group's sound out with Devin O'Brien on guitar and Lia Braswell (of Therapies Son) on drums, Pageants doesn't wander far from the sunny, laid-back sounds of Long Beach. However, having Coleman up front and center with keys traded in for a guitar, finally allows us to hear stories from her own soothing yet bold perspective. In the few [...]

I don't know why but I just felt like trying my hand at something new this week so I made Avocado Tomatillo Salsa for the first time ever. Watch out for the Serrano Peppers. I made the mistake of touching my eye and was in the shower trying to rinse it out for about 45 minutes! It inspired me to make a mix of music from a few upcoming JAXART Presents shows we have going on. It includes music from Jeans Wilder , Speculator , a. d. l. r. , W-H-I-T-E , [...]

It's been a few years since the honor of presenting a night in Long Beach was bestowed upon us and we couldn't be more happy to bring some friends out to the greatness that is The Prospector. If you or someone you know live within a 150 mile radius of this fine establishment, we highly recommend moving your beautiful behinds in the direction of Juniper & 7th on Tuesday for a couple reasons: Filet
