Bertelsmann , the German media and music publishing conglomerate, said Monday that its chief executive, Hartmut Ostrowski, would step down at the end of the year and succeeded by Thomas Rabe , the current chief financial officer. You know how, if you use Facebook and Spotify and aren't too careful, how all of a sudden everything you listen to gets pumped out to the wider world? Pandora introduced a similar feature a few months back. There's now a class action lawsuit being gathered in Michigan , which claims the sudden wittering out of 'now playing' information to the usually-more-public-than-you'r e-expecting Facebook is a breach of a promise the service made to keep everyone's tastes private. Pandora , the wildly popular music streaming service, has over hauled their interface and has rolled out a new HTML5 design offering a slew of new features. In what may be the music intelligence platform biggest deal to date, The Echo Nest today announced an agreement with Clear Channel Radio to help power their iHeartRadio digital music platform.  Some in the industry believe that iHeartRadio - which allows listeners to build custom radio stations - is the biggest threat yet to slow or even reverse Pandora's meteoric rise. Earlier this year, Pandora became a publicly traded IPO company, with real investors and real stock prices. The company had to release its first report to investors this week, and the signs were good: Revenue for this quarter is up to $67 million, a 117 percent increase from last year. Revenue not from ads was $8.7 million, which is up 112 percent. The biggest piece of news, however, is that listeners spent 1.8 billion hours on Pandora this quarter, which is 3.6 percent of the total radio market in the U.S. Which is pretty crazy. Pandora stock rose about 4% this morning after yesterday's favorable earnings report . Listener hours are exploding, with Pandora now representing 3.6% of all radio listening hours in U.S. The RCRD LBL app has launched a free app for the iPhone & iPod Touch. In it's first report to investors since becoming a publicly traded company, Pandora reported record quarterly revenue of $67 million growing 117% year over year.  Pandora also had record growth in total listener hours and the accompanying increase in royalty costs. Listener hours reached 1.8 billion, up 125% year over year, resulting in a record share of total U.S. radio listening of 3.6%. Subscription and other non-ad revenue was $8.7 million, a 112% year over year increase. Mobile advertising revenue increased to approximately half of total advertising revenue, according to the report. [...]
