Late 2009 Plants and Animals toured around Europe, promoting their debut album 'Parc Avenue'. Their second to last stop on the tour was Trix in Antwerp. I was helping behind the bar so I'd arranged with Nicolas we'd have a internet chat when they would be back in their hometown of Montreal a couple of days later... Did you back home arrive well? Nicolas Basque : Yes, long flight, jet lag, no sleep, but it's nice [...]

Very exciting day here at Secret City, as we're pleased to announce the release of Plants and Animals second full-length record, La La Land , due out in North America on April 20th. And if you're already familiar with their debut, Parc Avenue, you know why this is a big deal. And let us be the first to say this album is bigger, smoother, tougher and tighter than the last one. The La La Land album page has a whole lot more to say, but more importantly, also has the first sneak listen - a little warm-up number called [...]
When I missed these guys supporting Patrick Watson back in May, I kicked myself - because they're a band I'd like to see again. Some of the songs on Parc Avenue really left an impression on me and their gig at The Big Chill Bar didn't seem like the right atmosphere to do them justice - something these Take Away Shows only underline. In an attempt to get into gear for the upcoming Juno awards (March 29th), I've decided to try and highlight some of my favorite nominees over the next 2 weeks. Today's winner is Montreal indie-rock band Plants and Animals , whose album Parc Avenue is nominated for Alternative Album of the Year . Just so everyone is aware exactly how bad-ass a win in this category is, the last 4 winners have been Arcade Fire , City and Colour , Broken Social Scene , and Feist . [...]
[mp3] Plants and Animals - "Bye Bye Bye" 2008's release, Parc Avenue , found Canada's Plants and Animals adrift in quality accolades. Among those most notable, an 8.0 from the coveted Pitchfork camp. In the realm of experimental rock (see: "Mercy,") Parc Avenue at times, also teeters on the edge of folk-rock-pop (see: "Bye Bye Bye," "New Kind of Love," and "Sea Shanty.") As 2009 begins to pick up [...]
Like ( ) Plants And Animals - Parc Avenue At times invoking the likes of Queen, but mostly sticking to chill-out grooves and feel good melodies. Plants and Animals - New Kind of Love Apes & Androids - Blood Moon I tried to listen to this album a good 6 or 7 times this year, and every time I started I would have something else to [...]

Plants and Animals - Parc Avenue This one has to be a pretty good middle of the week record. Its not that their sound is as mundane as your weekly routine, I just think it could fit right in. Plants and Animals is an Indie act out of Canada. Parc Avenue is their first full-length on Secret City Records; released March of 2008. So its a bit old - for this I apologize. I haven't quite gotten the hang of this music blogging as it requires me to keep pace with culture; which is, of [...]
