The coming week is a sad week for the fortunes of many Irish artists who have been championed and most importantly listened to by the influential Donal Dineen. Donal Dineen's long running and award winning late night radio show The Small Hours comes to an end on December 1st, it's passing is celebrated at the Small Hours Wake on Friday 2nd December at The Joinery in Stoneybatter. Donal will be joined by some very special live guests on the night including Katie Kim, David Kitt, Cian Nugent, Beautiful Unit and the Xmas Soup Collective. [...]

The busy show season winds down. Third night of the week at The Parish, Holy Ghost! for a change of pace after seeing AABondy w/Gold Leaves and Real Estate. Alex is the frontman, Nick lurks behind the drumkit. By bringing along four more, their songs come to life. These guys have opened for Chromeo, LCD Soundsystem and Cut Copy . Big shows. How did they do as a headliner? How did they handle the room? Jessica 6 opened, Eli Escobar spun, I took pictures. [...]

If ever a show was built to be incredible, it was this show Wednesday night at the Parish. We were visited by Real Estate , one of the hottest bands in the indie world, playing at one of the best venues in Austin. And as an added treat, they brought along their friends Big Troubles. I felt bad for Big Troubles , as their van broke down in front of the venue just prior to their set Wednesday evening. That's never a way to kick off a rock [...]

Date 11/17/11 Location The Parish Doors 900p Tickets $15 @ Frontgate DJ duo Holy Ghost! are stopping into the Parish on Thursday night and I know at least one ATH staffer who is peeing his pants in anticipation. As previously reported , the band usually travels with a band so things should be [...]

Date Wednesday, Nov. 16th Location The Parish Doors 800 pm Tickets $13 from Frontgate I have no idea how this show hasn't sold out as of Monday night. Opening the night is Big Troubles , who've released their Romantic Comedy just recently, and it's done fairly well with the fans, not to [...]
Date Sunday, Nov. 13th Location The Parish Doors 800 pm Tickets $15 from Frontgate One of the shows I've been anticipating since it was announced is this show featuring two of my favorite bands, AA Bondy and Gold Leaves . AA Bondy is touring behind his new record [...]

The Fun Fun Fun Fest powers that be announced recently that all after shows this year would be completely free for anyone holding a festival wristband. You can agree or disagree with me if you like, but that's just about one of the most bad ass ideas I've ever heard. Leave it to the Transmission guys to continually outdo themselves year after year... So now that the festival is officially here, let us take a closer look at these Fun Fest Nites and give you a nightly recommendation on where we think you should be. Obviously these are just [...]
The last time I caught the Drums , I was a bit skeptical about their live show. While entertaining, there were some discrepancies in the live sound, so I wasn't sure of what I would catch at The Parish on Sunday night. For the most part, I left feeling moderately surprised. Opening the evening was io Echo , a band that has very little information around the Internet, so my expecctations were next to none. Immediately you [...]

Date Sunday, October 23rd Location The Parish Doors 800p Tickets $13 from Frontgate For all intents and purposes, this is sort of a must see show. The Drums have pretty much dominated the surf-pop spectrum for the better part of two years, and their latest record, Portamento shows a great bit [...]

I chased Wye Oak around at SxSW only to be thwarted by flu fatigue and a late cancellation at a day party, but to get to see them play at The Parish more than makes up for it. Add to that, it was my birthday. Add to that, I get to bring my camera to share pics with you. So off to the Parish we went, the Hall in a good mood, but a little tired from the week's shows. Erika Wennerstrom opened with a set of stripped down Heartless Bastards [...]

Date Friday, October 14th Location The Parish Doors 800p Tickets $12 from Frontgate With the slew of shows piling up in Austin this month, this is one that you definitely don't want to miss out on. Friday, Baltimore duo Wye Oak make their way into town, hoping to reignite the passion for their [...]

Dan Mangan opened for Blind Pilot . This is a great pairing which caused a packed-house sell-out. There were a few sing-alongs to go along with all of the great music. I was on hand to get some photos of the show and because both bands are full of musicians that take their performance seriously, I left a fan of both bands. It doesn't hurt that the show was perfectly paired with its venue, The Parish . So more on the show and plenty of images after the break… [...]

It's a little late for ACL reviews, but after decompressing from the week I took a moment to write a few of my thoughts. Friday night in Austin during ACL weekend is an interesting one. The energy and presence descended upon Austin by visitors and the music brings a vibe that only SXSW and FFFF can trump. After the first night of the 3-day party at Zilker, a few non-fest goers gathered to catch a glimpse of two of the up and coming acts of this year's line-up. See more details after the jump. After a brisk walk [...]

The Parish hosted the Horrors last Wednesday night. It was a lovely way to break the ACL hangover. More. More. More. [...]
Date Wednesday, Sept. 21st Location The Parish Doors 800p Tickets $15 from Frontgate Over in the UK, the Horrors have been media darlings, crafting some darkly-tinged songs with Primary Colours , then turning in some brighter numbers on this year's Skying . They've had some success in [...]

CLASSIXX : Fresh on the heels of their new single "Into the Valley" for Green Label Sound, the LA based producers/DJs are spending the summer nights marinating dance floors across the world. Barely into their twenties, Classixx has begun defining a new sound for the Los Angeles electronic music scene.
