Well, this sucks. The noisy New York band Parts and Labor will be packing up their knobs and pedals in early 2012, going on indefinite hiatus. They'll have a few local shows before it all ends (including a performance next week at CMJ), and one out of town show in Ithaca. The full schedule for the last days of the band is below. Parts and Labor tour dates: 10/19/11 - Brooklyn, NY - Union Pool 11/18/11 - Brooklyn, NY - Death by Audio 12/03/11 - [...]
NYC's Parts and Labor are one of the few rock bands on the scene today to successfully and convincingly integrate electronics into their sound (Way haywire electronics, I should add), and have always been a favorite of both I Rock Cleveland and the Cleveland concert audience in general. Now, after ten years, they're placing themselves on indefinite hiatus. BJ Warshaw and Dan Friel have both released solo albums in the past utilizing massive spreads of hacked electronics, similar to those of P&L, and it remains to be seen whether they'll pursue solo careers or bring that same, short-circuit waiting [...]

OK, sure, earthquakes on the East Coast. Why not? Minimal damage = license to snark. Nevermind that the first few moments of fear are about as real a glimpse into our disaster instincts as you could hope to get. Unfortunately, I can imagine my last frantic hours played out inside a Sci-Fi channel disaster movie. As chance would have it, the song I had intended to post actually fits into this new context. So here's the thing about monster rock. Usually, it's some big bloozy dinosaur-type thing that stomps onto the scene and [...]

Compiling a list like our recent Best Albums of 2011 (So Far) typically leaves one with two thoughts. The first is: which records that have yet to come out will appear on the year-end list? With one of our favorite artists seemingly announcing a new album every day (Jay-Z & Kanye West, Girls, Active Child, M83, Feist, Pusha T, Dum Dum Girls, St. Vincent ...), the answer is likely: lots of them. The second, more troubling question, is: which albums did we miss? In the 21st century the constant deluge of new music can be overwhelming, [...]
Static 502 from Static on Vimeo . I'm trying to get into a rhythm with these shows. I know I haven't put any interviews in them, yet (I have a few in the can that I haven't don anything with), but I feel like keeping the momentum going is good for the both of us. Here is the track list for the above show. As usual they are in order of appearance. Hopefully it will be on TV in the coming week; my internet is disgustingly slow. [...]
Sarah Lipstate, a Brooklyn, NY transplant and former member of Parts & Labor and One Umbrella, has released her fourth album Glacial Glow , a themed foray into cinematic instrumental wisdom. Each track is very distinct and cleverly labelled but let me lay down what this is. Eight songs averaging around four minutes a song, none exceeding six minutes and none below 3:40 besides the intro. This is heavily acoustic, and one hundred percent absent of vocals; music that would be absolutely unarguably perfect on an indie movie soundtrack. "Alone Star" could easily be nominated for an [...]

The latest installment in the A.V. Undercover series features noise-pop rockers Parts & Labor covering last year's mega triumph "Runaway" by Kanye West . When asked about why they chose the song, co-frontman Dan Friel said "we figured we'd just do the one that's most difficult and ridiculous." Watch the experimental trio Parts & Labor create a noise squall on a cover of Kanye West's 'Runaway.'

Constant Future is the new album from Parts & Labor and with this album the band has created a happy, noisy and rambunctious record that never really takes itself too seriously but manages to really deliver some incredibly catches songs. The band blends together a mix of some very strong live, acoustic drums with some heavy synths and noisy guitars and a warbly vocal to come up with a bit of a mish-mash of sounds that ends up sounding really fresh and energetic. They aren't necessarily doing anything revolutionary with their sound, but the pace and energy [...]

THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Wizard Smoke (Album Release) w/ Predator, Death of Kings Saturday, April 30 Drunken Unicorn - 736 Ponce de Leon Place in Atlanta 30306 Admission $8 On their sophomore LP, local doom peddlers Wizard Smoke have managed to strike the perfect balance between volume and density. The six-song effort's monolithic slabs of Sabbath and Sleep -inspired metal and sludgy tempos is both punishingly loud and and brutally heavy, but somehow the music never feels too abrasive or overwhelming. [...]

Why does it feel like Parts and Labor explored this idea before ? The visual effect of the stop motion-esque video seems very familiar. Same idea for "Echo Chamber," but the resulting effect is very different. Instead of colored boxes, it's a whole structure. Parts and Labor tour dates: 04/22 - Lexington, KY - Cosmic Charlie's 04/23 - St. Louis, MO - Luminary Center for the Arts 04/25 - Pensacola, FL - Sluggo's 04/26 - Atlanta, GA - 529 04/27 - Chapel Hill, NC [...]

Marcia and Ted of ANTIMAGIC sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of the q and also a series. q: What is the last song you (really) heard? m: You Got Lucky (youtube) by Tom Petty . t: "Same Old Scene" by Roxy Music , from their much-maligned Flesh & Blood album from 1980. It's serves as the opening and closing music of the film Times Square also from 1980. Total ear candy perfection, but still kinda weird. [...]

In person, Brooklyn noise-rock band Parts & Labor shred. Their blend of anthemic noise rock produces sizable walls of sound that seem to crush and overwhelm the crowd around them. Their latest video, though, involves them not smashing guitars or eardrums but building something and re-defining the term "house band." Hit the skip for the "Echo Chamber" video. The track is off their latest album, Constant Future .
Parts & Labor just released a video for their track 'Echo Chamber' off of their newest album Constant Future (Jagjaguwar). The stop motion effect on the video works perfectly with their experiment noise rock sound. More Parts & Labor Web | Facebook | @parts_and_labor
