Every year has its turkey albums. Once a year, we take the opportunity to put them out of their misery. It's the 2012 Turkey Shoot! This is an idea I've stolen from the fantastic Chicago Public Radio program Sound Opinions. Once a year, Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot get together to take [...]

A new bit for MTIB, we're bringing you songs of new and old that seem to be ticklin' our fancy on that day. We'll try and hit you with a couple of these a week but don't hold us to that. We have other important things going on in our lives too like practicing head stands and hula-hoop world records to b reak. Leave us a comment on what you think and if this is something we should keep pumpin' out. This current installment is about as random as it gets but it doesn't have to make sense, just go [...]
Sabemos que están escondidos en una trinchera grabando su primer LP. Pero se dieron el tiempo de voler a los radares con este nuevo remix a Passion Pit . Claramente un remix que no iba a pasar colado...

Freelance Whales Deluvia out 10.9 | Stream MP3 | CD | Vinyl Despite its reputation as the “fun” season, summer 2012 came with a whole lot of malaise. Frank Ocean revealed his disillusionment on Channel Orange , and Fiona Apple languished in her discontent on her verbosely-titled fourth LP. Passion Pit tackled their demons on Gossamer , and even Japandroids’ Celebration Rock carried an undercurrent of [...]

We've hooked up with The FADER and vitaminwater to give away two autographed, limited edition concert posters from their uncapped concert series –– 1 from 2 Chainz and Passion Pit 's show in Seattle, and 1 from Wale and Santigold 's show in Chicago. They're also being really cool and throwing in an uncapped tour t-shirt. [...]

Newly made band (2008) Imagine Dragons is coming off a huge debut album Night Visions that features the catchy song "It's Time". Released two weeks ago Night Visions has climbed to the number one spot for Alternative rock albums and second for rock albums in general. To add to their list of success is the fact that one of their songs has been remixed by the popular electronic indie group Passion Pit . This remix gives the song an electronic twist that is full of synth work and a space like essence that we have [...]

“The music is made first, and the interviews or photos to keep it alive come later as a necessary evil, I suppose.” -Jack White Event: MGMT at Osheaga 2012 Photographer: Stewart Wiseman What Stewart Says: "The Connecticut outfit performed a selection of their psychedelic-fueled rock to the biggest crowd of the day, and treated their many faithful to a mix of songs off of their first two albums." Remixed is a column that will highlight remixes we actually think are worthy of praise, be they old or new. Because most remixes are rubbish. // Words: Saam Das London electro duo Chew Lips released their new single 'Hurricane' this week, another track previewing their forthcoming second album. I'm not quite as enamoured with it as I have been with some of their excellent previous singles but I'm much more pleased with their recent remix of Passion Pit 's [...]
Any artist can play a concert. It takes a special kind of artist to curate a festival. It takes something entirely different to shut down one of the most heavily trafficked roadways in the fifth biggest city in the country and set up a gigantic stage with wings coming out the sides. Jay-Z’s first annual Made In America Festival took over Philadelphia this past weekend, serving as another glorious manifestation of all the rapper’s successes over his career. Just when you think he couldn't climb any higher, he finds a way to take it just a little bit [...]
Who would've ever thought we'd see Geographer, Norah Jones, and Metallica share stage space at a festival. But we did, and the experience was truly unique.
In all my years as a festie, I've never been to a festival where gloves seemed like a perfectly sound idea. But San Francisco defies the logic of California (as comedian Marcus Monroe put it, "It's summer, so tell your fucking city that"), with cool days and downright cold evenings. Still, the City by the Bay plays one hell of a host. Coming from Boston, the honest politeness of the people here was shockingly apparent from the moment I stepped onto the BART. With sunny skies above, it was a warm welcome to the weekend ahead. Of course, [...]

We know how you love this feature, you cheap bastards, and we would never disappoint. Here's another edition of 10 Free Songs, featuring some unexpected collaborations, artists assuming new monikers, and interesting remixes. Click “next” or hit shift + right to listen to/download the tracks...

The theme of this year’s Osheaga Music and Arts Festival could have been titled “The Price of Success.” What had been building as a niche event for musically aware fans since 2006 turned into a juggernaut in 2012, seemingly overnight. For the first time in their history, Osheaga organizers had to deal with sellout crowds, even with the grounds at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Saint Helen’s Island having been expanded considerably. The lineup was that good, featuring a mix of artists parachuting in and out of Lollapalooza, as well as some band grabs exclusive to Montreal that had the [...]

For the eighth time in a row, Lollapalooza returned to Chicago's Grant Park. While the festival has received its share of rain over the years (e.g. Billy Idol's mesmerizing sun shower set in 2005, The Gaslight Anthem's downpour debut in 2009, Best Coast's muddy power hour in 2011, to name a few), the grounds have never had to shut down . Yet with recent catastrophes at festivals worldwide, management took no chances and they made the right choice. Only three hours were ultimately lost and in those three hours something wild happened - there was a sense [...]
