Passion Pit's long-awaited sophomore record 'Gossamer' is characterized by incandescent, pulsating dance tunes and tortured lyrics. Columbia Records, 2012 8.5 / 10.0 Boston-based electropop act Passion Pit have released their new album, Gossamer, and if you scan the reviews and articles that have already been written about the record, you might notice [...]

“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.” -Willy Wonka Angel Haze – “New York” Next time you're visiting NYC, don't be on the look out for muggers or gangs; be wary of Angel Haze's slender frame ruining your day. As least after she's done, she might include you in her next rhyme. Big K.R.I.T. feat. Ludacris – “What U Mean” When Big K.R.I.T. and Ludacris hang out, expect lots of pretty girls and over-powered muscle cars. Not that they [...]
This week is particularly special, and I'll tell you why. One of our favorite albums this year is out today! In addition to the ridiculous amount of great music out this week (perhaps the best week yet this summer), that stunning album we're excited about comes from The Blakes , titled Art of Losses . The album itself moves from The Dandy Warhols' to Modest Mouse and David Bowie-like vocals. The album is inescapable, offering something for every rock genre all the way down to my favorite track (surely to be on our year end lists) titled "Sea [...]

By Brendan Klinkenberg Last week, Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos opened up for a depth-plumbing digital story on Pitchfork . It was a far more candid interview than the relatively quiet musician has ever given, showing a side to him we had never seen before through a stream of personal revelations shedding light on his mentally taxing battles with bipolar disorder, fame, and artistic impulses. It’s a very open, very human piece of journalism, and something that will color the way we listen to Angelakos’ music from here on out. [...]

Passion Pit ’s latest LP has some euphoric musical touches, but it's lyrically dismal - it's like getting smothered in laughing gas before your teeth are yanked out. Frontman Michael Angelakos takes a fairly minimalist approach to writing lyrics, catalyzing them with unbridled emotion rather than clever rhetoric. But you don’t need to have rhetorical versatility of Shakespeare to write from the heart. Check out the top 10 lyrics to the album, courtesy of Stereo IQ editor Gavin Matthews . Yeasayer is the hot word around Firefly this morning! With Passion Pit's unexpected resignation, the people working hard behind the Firefly Festival acted swiftly to fill the hole and pulled a rabbit it out of the hat. Yeasayer is no ordinary rabbit though. The Brooklyn-based group earned the accolade, Most Blogged Artist in the 2010 year-end report from HypeM and are set to release their third, highly-anticipated album on August 20th of this year. Enjoy their biggest hit to date, "O.N.E." below. GROUPLOVE formed in 2010, released [...]

"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men." -Willy Wonka Crystal Stilts – “Dark Eyes” Take a trip back to the 602s in this video from NYC's Cyrstal Stilts. Even though it was shot recently during a hometown show at the Knitting Factory, the psychedelic visuals make it seem like it could have come from Andy Warhol's Factory circa 1966. Dan Deacon – “True Thrush” This video is guaranteed to amuse anyone who ever loved playing the children's game telephone [...]

"You are the music while the music lasts." -T.S. Eliot Angel Haze - "Werkin' Girls" Super talented 20-year-old emcee Angel Haze is back with "Werkin' Girls", another new cut from her debut EP, Reservation (July 17th, via True Panther/Noizy Cricket/Biz 3). Over layer upon layer of rapid, clacking synth drums, Haze spits lines that are only matched in their boasting by their clever turns ("I'm on top of my green like a motherfuckin' tractor" or "I'm an undefeated bastard/my tongue is the fuckin rapture"). Haze is aware of her sudden power [...]

Pitchfork is debuting Passion Pit's latest track, "Constant Conversations" released from the upcoming album, Gossamer . Now, if Pitchfork didn't suck, I would have listened to it there (also, their player seems clogged up currently). Instead, I ended up finding a streamable version on Indie Shuffle - a fantastic website if you aren't familiar. Anyway, this particular release is now officially my favorite track of the three released. Passion Pit making smooth and sexy rhythm and blues is something I'd love to hear more. Seriously, this is 'gasm-inducing. [...]
Words By Julie J. | @Julie_TBIH Last Wednesday, Hip-Hop heads and hipsters alike lined the sidewalks of the industrial Sodo district in Seattle. Energy emanated from the anxious crowd, who [...]

Governors Ball is about as straightforward as a festival can get: two stages, no overlapping sets, and an even split between electronic music on Saturday and alternative rock on Sunday. For its second installation, Gov. Ball relocated to Randalls Island on the upper end of Manhattan from its namesake outpost at the lower, which didn’t affect much in the way of attendance but unfortunately added more of a commute to the festival’s official afterparties at the Brooklyn Bowl (#firstworldproblems). Other than that, however, there was enough space, water, bathrooms, lawn games, and food trucks to keep fussy New Yorkers [...]

The M Machine just took a giant step forward with their chock-full of electro remix of Passion Pit's "Take A Walk". This remix is just sizzling with a major tech-melody and the beat is a vivid commanding track that lays out Passion Pit's perfect rave-worth lyrics. Drink this one up. "A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men." -Willy Wonka Best Coast - "The Only Place" If living in California actually is anything like what Best Coast make it out to be in their latest video, I might start believing Bethany Cosentino when she sings, "Why would you live anywhere else?" Dirty Projectors – “Gun Has No Trigger” Is that you Dave Longstreth? It's hard to tell due to the fact that the Dirty Projectors spend almost the entire video in [...]
