"The Swelly Express" is the true story of two college kids (Chidera Anamege and Xaphoon Jones ) from Philly who rocked some parties at Drexel and quickly gained the attention of "the industry". The music and lyrics were inspired by many boring trips on the Chinatown bus (they have wifi now!) on the way to meet "big wigs" in NYC. After a bunch of nice dinners and some free drinks for these 2 underage kids, Chiddy Bang decided to make a mixtape. PMA is proud to present this mixtape with OnSMASH and Crooks & Castles . [...]

Last night, Koko played host to an all star lineup. Usually featuring NME's en-vogue bands or opening the floor for Club NME, Camden's venue of choice was blessed with two fantastic acts, The Joy Formidable and Passion Pit . The Joy Formidable The Joy Formidable is one of those bands. The North Wales trio arrived in 2007, after a name change, some personnel changes and some time spent honing their skills. From that point on, the accolades fell at their feet. [...]
Passion Pit is straight from glam-synth heaven. They’ve come a long way from the infamous Valentine’s Day mixtape to the release of their first full-length Manners , and they continue to sell out shows all over the world with their undeniably unique sound. Despite their busy schedule, drummer Nate Donmoyer was kind enough to spare a few minutes. This interview by Keldine Hull.

These bad boys are available in 36 hole pattern and you can snag a set from Yahoo Auctions japan. Dont lie to yourself you know you wanna throw a set of Deep V's on these hubs with your pastel colored frame. [...]

Without a doubt, Phoenix has had a great year. With “Lisztomania” and “1901,” Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix certainly rose to the surface to a nice welcome. The group continues to work, updating fans along the way via an online diary – where they open-up their tracks for fans to make and contribute remixes . If you missed Phoenix at Central Park , you’ve missed them for the remainder of the year in the U.S. as they continue their tour in France, their origin. A Phoenix association to Animal Collective doesn’t come as a surprise. It [...]

Continuing or ACL coverage today, we are excited to bring you an interview with buzz worthy band Passion Pit. These guys have been getting a whole bunch of praise heaped on them from numerous sources and we tend to think they deserve that praise. We recently spoke with Jeff Apruzzese from the band who discusses the hype and buzz surrounding his band. Of course that's not all we talk about, but you'll just have to read more to see it all. ATH: This seems like it has [...]

Swedish indie-pop group Miike Snow (no, that's not a typo) just released the music video for their hit single "Black and Blue." Miike Snow's sound has been described by professional music critics as "A-ha meets Animal Collective." I personally like to think that their sound is more of an offshoot of Passion Pit's. The band's lead singer/songwriter Andrew Wyatt even sounds a bit like Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos. The guys released their self-titled debut album back in May of 2009, and on it was "Black and Blue" and " Animal ," a song that went on [...]

Tim & Jean are two guys from Western Australia who have shot to a little bit of fame through Triple J's Unearthed High competition. Their track Come Around is one of 6 tracks from six finalists from right across Australia. This is a competition that has discovered acts such as Grindspoon, Missy Higgins, and The Bumblebeez amongst others. Some may call the fellas a younger version of Passion Pit and a bit of Damn Arms 'Destination' thrown in. But I reckon that's a good thing! Dammit! Check out their MySpace for a better idea [...]
If you haven't heard Passion Pit yet, please close this browser and do yourself some justice by picking up their recent debut (this year's Manners ) now. It's okay, we have spare time. Reason being, it might just be 2009's hottest and most entertaining release. It's sleek, it's shiny. In fact, it's the music equivalent to that feeling you get when using conditioner on coarse, rough hair. Not that that's ever happened to anyone on the CoS staff, but y'know... Anyhow, amidst all our journalistic chaos at Lollapalooza , we [...]
Passion Pit came to town this past Friday night in support of their debut album Manners , and the Boston-based group played a highly energetic and supremely fun show to a very sold out (and very young) crowd.

ok. Modular are definitely one of my favourite record labels out there. Apart from their idea of a music festival last year, they house some of the best bands out there. People who know me will know that I don't shut up about how good Cut Copy and Van She are. I also LOVE the Avalanches and am waiting on their new release. And their recent signings of Canyons and the Bang Gang boys have got me a bit excited. But, i do digress. Every few years Modular put out a compilation called Leave Them All Behind. I'm [...]
It took a little while - ok, it took forever! - but the organizers behind the grandest indie extravaganza in the land, aka the Monolith Music Festival , have finally completed the 2009 lineup. Monolith's third edition will again take place at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado from September 12-13 and feature quite the indie-centric line up we've all come to expect and enjoy. Saturday is highlighted by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Girl Talk, Of Montreal, M. Ward, The Walkmen, Frightened Rabbit, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, while Sunday offers The Mars Volta, [...]
--The Dead Weather, who we saw at the Bowery last April, long ago sold out their gigs at Terminal 5 this Thursday and Friday, but the band will play a free show tomorrow at noon at the Third Man Recor... Today marks the beginning of the second half of 2009. We've had a marvelous 6 months full of great music and it's time to update my list of the Absolute Best Songs of 2009 . Well, it's not really fair to call this an update really - I completely tossed out the old list and started up a new one from scratch. I didn't stop at the top 10 either - this list spans the 50 songs that I believe are the best of the year, so far. But like the first list, [...]
A couple weeks ago I talked about the concept of the album in this space, and somebody by the handle of “Knatterjak” shared the tidbit that “The EP is the future”. That got me thinking – is the EP the new album? Is orange really the new pink? EPs, loosely defined, are short albums. Strictly defined, Extended Play records are records made up of 4 songs (plus alternative versions) or 25 minutes of music. This strict definition, however, is often subverted – specifically through artists adding the letters “EP” to [...]
