This post is a "QuickPick". QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that's sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it's so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If it's still as good as it was a day before then it goes up on the site, but sometimes I get backlogged and can't get through writing [...]

It's been a few months since we've had some new tunes from The Joy Formidable , but here's another newb from the as-yet-no-official-release-dat e album "The Big Roar", expected in 2011. It follows in the footsteps of some of their previous tunes' wall-to-wall sound, haunting synths and an overall atmosphere of foreboding, layered with catchy choruses and reverb-laden vocals. They've been gaining a shitload of buzz over the last few months and if we can go by their last few songs, "The Big Roar" is gonna be chock-fulla hits. Check out the new jam below and [...]
When I say that I've been listening to this all week it's no word of a lie. Fareed sent me their stuff last week just as I was going to bed and so before getting there I stopped and gave it a listen, and it turned out to be another of those bands that grab you the instant you hear them. Upon first listen, I knew that I liked it, I just wasn't sure exactly what IT was. It's all sorts of bits and bobs, tweaks and twirls, highs and lows, all wrapped around (upon first listen) and [...]
If I had to choose one word to describe Error Operator, I’d probably say brilliant. But one word is all I can give you right now, because his album drops on Monday and I’ll be posting a full review of it. So for now, put your experimental dance shoes on and have a blast with this remix of Passion Pit’s “Sleepyhead.” Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Error Operator Remix) by ErrorOperator — Related Posts: Introducing: Error Operator

Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If you recall I spoke about Moxie Black nearly three weeks ago and all I could do was gush. The crazy thing was that I was gushing after only hearing a few of their songs, but when they sent me the entire album it floored me. The whole thing, from front to back is a stormer. I can't remember where I said it, but I labeled it as "the best party album of the year" and it really is. I'm not gonna say a whole lot about it here since I already said a bunch [...]

We knew Passion Pit were secret proggers—why else would they take on Corgan's steampunk anthem, not to mention adorn it with Peter Gabriel-worthy synth shimmer that sounds like a thousand crystal chandeliers twinkling in the desert wind? Wishful Thinking Answer: because Michael Angelakos secretly wants to dress up in awesome costumes based on flora and script elaborate stage-plays to accompany the Passion Pit live experience. Actual Answer: Levi's Pioneer Sessions asked him to cover a song, he was into this one, and it turned out awesome. Still—we'd love to see some puppets or something. [...]
![[Discover/Listen/Dow nload] – DOM – [Indie/Electronic]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2515357_lg.jpg)
If you're not ready for summer yet (personally I'm ready for summer as soon as the fucking snow shows up) then DOM is about to remedy that. DOM is a band of musical renegades from Worcester, Massachusetts, mu ch like Lorenzo Lamas (not from Worcester) and fronted by Dom, who looks nothing like Lorenzo Lamas, but he does have long hair. It's difficult to gauge just how much of their backstory is true because the interviews they give are not only hilarious, but tinged with implausibilities and far-fetched stories. For instance, on their MySpace page they list a band member as "Bochicha" and [...]
The Joy Formidable have been around for a couple of years now, releasing two singles and an album in 2008 (their debut single "Austere" (which a somewhat controversial video that was banned by YouTube) was followed by "My Beerdrunk Soul is Sadder Than a Hundred Dead Christmas Trees", and their debut album "Balloon Called Moaning" was originally only released in Japan at the very end of 2008), three singles and a live album in 2009 ("Cradle", "Whirring" and "Greyhounds In The Slips" were the singles with "First You Have To Get Mad" as the live album) and already this year [...]

Passion Pit was among the sea of bands releasing exclusive content for Record Store Day last Saturday. The band released a special colored 73 vinyl of 2009's fantastic "Little Secrets". The album version of the track was backed with a remix by none other than Felix Da Housecat. Felix Da Housecat turns an already fun, party tune like "Little Secrets" into a complete dance floor burner. This remix probably won't get too much action on my iPod, but I can't deny that it will be all too easy to slip this one into a party mix, or two, [...]
![[Listen] – #MusicMonday – 20 Songs Of The Week – March 15th](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2428239_lg.jpg)
If you're unaware of what Music Monday is, it's a Twitter recommendation system where users of Twitter share their favourite music, artists, genres, etc in order to not only find new music themselves but help others find new music too. Using the hashtag (#) followed by "MusicMonday" you can easily find new music posted by the thousands of people making recommendations each week. Every #MusicMonday I upload a playlist of 20 songs that I've been listening to (new and old) over the [...]

In a predictable move, Lady GaGa has gone with her duet with Beyonce, "Telephone", as The Fame Monster 's follow-up to the transcendent "Bad Romance" (in a stupid move, I hear "So Happy I Could Die" is Monster 's third single). Nothing good has come from this seemingly epic collaboration between two of music's current most relevant icons. "Telephone" is insulting to anyone with half a brain, but still miles ahead of its cringe-worthy R&B counterpart "Videophone". However, producer Rodney Jerkins really put all he had into this and he has created a Britney-like backing track that will [...]

Last week I posted Ellie Goulding's official debut single, " Under The Sheets ," set to be released by Neon Gold. Here are a couple of covers she recorded before getting picked up by Neon Gold. Let me just say that this is a legit way to get attention. Something you working-on-it musicians ought to take note of. It could just be that I like covers, or that I've seen it happen many times before. But that's just my two cents. From what I gathered, Ellie Goulding has covered Passion Pit's "Sleepyhead," Sam Sparro's "Black and [...]
DOWNLOAD: MP3 / iTUNES There are many reasons why I feel that summertime is the best time of the year, and most of them are here on this playlist. Spanning thirty-six songs (!!), this 16th pmaCAST - and our longest podcast ever, clocking in at over 2 hours and 10 minutes - is all about the tunes that make a perfect summertime listen. Download this here or on iTunes (via the links above), put it on your iPod, put it on a mixtape-shaped flash-drive [...]

chiddy baaaaang... and they're pretty much amazing. epic photo by dylan barnes . click to enlarge. I hinted to this via Twitter yesterday afternoon! I kept my mouth shut, but here it is - a new Chiddy Bang track! Cue roaring applause. This new song the boys hit me up with is called "Truth" and its one step closer to that as-of-yet untitled summer mixtape Chiddy Bang promised us. "Truth" stays true to the Chiddy Bang new school sample form and tackles one of my favorite Passion Pit songs, "Better Things" off the Chunk [...]
Oakland’s wallpaper. bring the jams every time. They sing about Trader Joe’s Two Buck Chuck, wear T-Rex costumes and dollar sign beach towels as capes, and constantly talk about mall girls they want to text their love to. One of the masterminds behind wallpaper., Ricky Reed, also has been busy twiddling knobs doing remix work in between producing content for wallpaper.’s new album, due later this year. Reed’s takes for remixing tend to reside in the vein of funk and soul, as evidenced by his new remix [...]
