When I first read the message from Michael Angelakos on Passion Pit's Facebook  page about them canceling their current shows because he needed a mental health break, I thought: "What a crock of shit! Here you are in your mid 202s, on top of the world and you need a mental health break?" This year we're being treated to comeback albums by a slew of artists who are trying to follow-up the huge success of their debut album, perhaps none more so than Passion Pit or The xx . Passion Pit's Gossamer comes out on July 24 and "Take A  Walk" is our first taste. Michael Angelakos has made it clear this album is going to be a change of pace from the beloved Manners , but "Take A Walk" acts as a nice follow up, just as catchy as anything on Manners . Personally, I have kept this on repeat since yesterday. So, I finally got through my thesis. I got word of the new Passion Pit track earlier in the day, but I waited until after all my writing was done, before I could have listened. It was a tough struggle but thank god, “Take a Walk” is so damn good. This band has certainly moved on from their much loved Manners days, as the falsetto of Michael Angelako is not present,  a lot more guitar and the vocals are crystal clear. Passion Pit's debut album, Manners, was a treat. We liked it so much we named it as one of the best albums of 2009 . Well, now they are back with new single 'Take A Walk', which is taken from their upcoming second album, Gossamer , due out in July. A hook-laden stomper, it sees Passion Pit continue down the dreamy disco pop of Manners, but sees singer  Michael Angelakosa draw away from his trademark falsetto. We're excited.

From the band that brought you the electro-pop enchantments of Manners comes a new single about the strain of immigration, taxes and other economic struggles. But it isn't a sad song, it's a make-the-best-of-it song featuring Michael Angelakos singing in an atypical non-falsetto. There was a time when everything seemed bigger, especially concerts. Just getting to the concert was an adventure. You'd borrow a car from the parents of a friend and fill it past capacity. There would be an argument on the way and an inevitable lightening of the spirits, facilitated by loud music and laughter and an eventual arrival to the massive concert halls and arenas that are shrinking rapidly as popular rock music changes to a broader definition. Passion Pit have added additional dates to their upcoming North American tour. The band are now set to play dates in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, among a few others. Kicking off October 14 in Durham, Passion Pit are set to play dates in several major cities including Seattle, Portland, and Pomona.
