Had a real tour round the city today. First to the fleamarket 17 cartoons for 2 euros (Spawn, Radioactive Man, Robocop, Ren & Stimpy), Michael Jacksons Bad vinyl for 50 cents and the a Gorbatjov keychain for 50 cents. For one of the rounds Mistajam chose this brand new track from Crookers , which features none other than Wiley , as well as a seemingly unknown artist called Thomas Jules , who I'm actually impressed by in this song. Say hello to Passion Pit, the latest keyboard-wielding disco popsters to make the blogosphere froth at the gash. Their EP "Chunk Of Change", released in December last year, was met with critical acclaim, and their album "Manners" (which you can listen to in full at their Myspace page) will be released on Tuesday. I like this Optimo Espacio remix for the weird atmosphere it creates. It's neither a dance remix or an ambient one, but Florence Welch's vocals are used ethereally and there is a persistent squelch to it. It's four minutes before anything but harmonies are sung and there's a general air of uneasiness throughout the track's 7 minute running time. The climax will not be aired this time. Some way or another I seem to always find myself posting something related to Passion Pit at least once a week. Some may say that's predictable, maybe even cliche, but I would just have to disagree. However, this time I'm happy to say it's a remix they did for Dan Black, who is kind of an underdog in the crowded sea of new-ish artists, but I think he definitely deserves some more attention.
