Truth be known, I was somewhat startled by the lack of intrigue whipped up about EmptyMansions earlier on in the year when we first heard Lyra emanating out from the newfangled endeavour of longstanding Interpol sticksman Sam Fogarino. Though I guess where Paul Banks opted to only gently tinker with the drear-laden formula of doom, gloom and despair veneered in a debonair kinda pop-gilded post-punk revivalism, Fogarino instead opted to cram his storefront with genuinely invigorating idiosyncrasies. The guttural rumblings of Swans; the bleached abrasions of Sonic Youth: the curt hostilities of his native New York. [...]
Yes, It's True . The above ostrich (or maybe emu) is to adorn the sleeve for the long-awaited forthcoming fourth (somewhat dubious Christmas release discounted) from Tim Delaughter's The Polyphonic Spree and so below, they've proffered a preliminary glimpse into what it'll sound like. You Don't Know Me, perhaps aptly, sounds only slightly like that which we've become accustomed to from the perennially enrobed Dallas cult as it's only slightly redolent of The Fragile Army , otherwise sounding more readily evocative of R.E.M., or Paul Banks' independent endeavours. Though as Delaughter sneers: "Watch 'em falling all around" [...]

Interpol front man Paul Banks is dropping his Julian Plenti alter-ego for his second solo outing on Matador . The album, simply titled Banks , comes out today. If lead single "The Base" is any indicator, Banks will use his baritone and cryptic lyrics to further explore the subtle complexity staked out on Interpol's 2010 self-titled release. However, that's not to say there's nothing new here; just wait for the massive bridge. Be sure to catch Mr. Banks when he comes to the Howard Theatre on November 9th. [...]

Paul Banks is releasing his new solo album Banks next Tuesday, but has posted the full album on YouTube. Here are two of the stand out tracks from his second solo effort. The Interpol frontman seems to make greatness regardless of who he's recording with. Interpol. Julian Plenti. Now, just regular old P.B. Looking forward to having this in regular rotation. Catch Paul at the Troc in November. PAUL BANKS - THE BASE PAUL BANKS - [...]

For his second solo LP, Interpol's Paul Banks has abandoned his Julian Plenti alias in favor of his own name. The album, entitled Banks , will be out October 23, 2012 on Matador Records , home to all but one Interpol record. Having such a distinctive voice is a bit of a double edged sword for singers in high profile bands who embark on solo careers. Most people will simply say, "eh, it just sounds like Interpol." Well, yes, but also not really. [via Pitchfork ] Paul Banks - "The Base" [...]
Three years ago, Interpol frontman Paul Banks released his first-ever solo album under his Julian Plenti alter-ego. Earlier this year, it looked like that alter-ego was on its way back, as Banks released the Julian Plenti Lives... EP. But instead, Banks just announced his first solo album under his own name. It's called Banks , and he recorded it with Interpol producer Peter Katis. Below, download the very Interpol-sounding first single "The Base." Read More...

«Summertime is coming, so get out.»

Mp3: Paul Banks - "Summertime is Coming"

![[Ones To Watch] – Introducing – Alex Winston](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3609870_lg.jpg)
Tweet It might seem odd that LBYB is just now doing an introducing piece on Alex Winston , but it’s long overdue. So, may I formally introduce Alex Winston. At first glance, you might be surprised to hear that Alex Winston is classically trained in opera, but after listening to a few of her songs, it doesn’t seem all that crazy. Winston’s voice is wonderfully feminine, similar to that of Ritzy Bryan from The Joy Formidable , and immensely strong. [...]

Sunday evening I cruised over to The Knitting Factory to see Drink Up Buttercup and GIVERS, two bands I was not particularly familiar with but was pleased to see nonetheless. Drink Up Buttercup, when researched, can be described as Psychedelic, which is something I really did not hear live. In fact, their songs on record [...]
