![[Listen/Download] – Victor Florence – "Winter"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3968615_lg.jpg)
Tweet Victor Florence 's " Winter " showcases everything that's right, and everything I love, about music. There is no tracking, no over-processed "Traditional" sounding vocals, just a song that's delivered with amazing clarity and purpose without anything being sold... You get a valid image of Victor Florence while listening to this song, each line passive and clear and perfect. This whole "no monsters, no magic" style carries a lot of weight with me. Paul Baribeau , [...]
![[Listen] – Bombadil – "A Question"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3955866_lg.jpg)
Tweet The number of times I've listened to a song with talking involved and enjoyed it are so rare that only three examples come to mind; the first being Titus Andronicus ' " A More Perfect Union ," the second being all of Paul Baribeau 's perfectly written songs which I think count as talking, and now Bombadil 's " A Question ." There's something in this practically self-deprecating song that feels both Bishop Allen [...]
Emotions are mixed as they always are when leaving one place behind to face something completely unknown but I'm a major advocate for change and more-so pro anti-regrets

--Hey hipsters this isn't 2008 there's nothing "Ironic" about your mustache anymore. This includes pulling your hair over your lip/drawing a mustache on your finger it's been done... the novelties worn off-- . . . After finishing up with the night cruise posts i'm in the mood for some songs where the instrumentation carries the songs a little more than the lyrics. I'm sure as i piece this one together i'll stray a little from that format but that's basically [...]

There comes a point on any cruise where a pit stop stop is needed, a chance to stretch your legs and feel some movement. Most often in high school this would be either a haunted cemetery these are common in indiana.... ( Stepp Cemetery is probably the best for a road trip), a pond in the middle of nowhere, or my favorite is this abandoned train depot in atterbury ( you drive along the tracks for a half a mile and drive right up onto the platform. Great place to relax and take in an unadulterated view of the [...]

The folks at Skull Alley are undertaking an exciting project, pressing their "First Saturday" shows on 73. The first one will include Coliseum, Straight A's and ZCFOS . The catch is they need some $ upfront to get the project off the ground. GO HERE and pledge anywhere from $1 buck to $1000 bucks. With each gift level you get something in return. For example, if you give just $5, you get a copy of the first 73 and digital download of the ENTIRE SHOW. Give $10 [...]

This music is made up of simple, acoustic chord progressions at high tempos. It's the lyrics that hade me hooked. They are made up of heart-wrenching truths. They aren't pretentious at all, they are simple, easy to understand poems on the simple things in life; love, friends and family. Every song I can understand, appreciate or relate to. Though hidden behind punk ethos, Paul Baribeau makes music which anyone can listen to and feel remorse for this sorry soul. It's partly because of the wavering voice, the lack of instrumentation, but mainly, it's the power that he has to communicate [...]

This was lying around in my hard drive after an initial skimming period, when a few days ago I went back to see how it fared. It fared pretty good actually. I probably know no more than 3 Springsteen songs so I can't rate the covers against the originals, yet although for the 60s-70s folk connosieur Paul Baribeau 's music may sound derivative, his energy & sincerity make up for the simplicity. Once again there are a lot of emotional shoutalong moments on Darkness on the Edge of your Town, which helped me get through the final phase of [...]

As if this lazy Sunday couldn't get any better, Kimya Dawson just tossed up a MySpace bulletin with more videos than I know what to do with from her recent show with Daniel Johnston. Kimya began the Olympia Free Choir - an all ages, no experience necessary and no audition choir - and they were present to back her on the tune that made me initially fall in love with Baribeau's music, "Ten Things." More videos after the jump including Dawson backing Johnston on "True Love Will Find You In The End" and Johnston playing drums on Dawson's "Being Cool" [...]

Paul Baribeau will roll into Los Angeles on Thursday to play in our good pal and Koalacaustee Elliot Babin's garage. Baribeau will be accompanied this time around by Koalacaust, Joyce Manor, Apple Orange, and The Boy Who Could Fly. Another stunning show in Elliot's garage, for those of you who missed last year's Baribeau, the Histories, Nephews, and Koalacaust show this is your chance to make it up! RSVP here as I don't feel comfortable with posting Elliot's address online - so many creepers around. Hit up BariSpace to check the rest of his tour [...]

Since the recent resurrection of my hot half life and the blog of th e same name, my tiny brain has been a-buzz with ideas of what to blog about. Should I review the new Kevin Devine album? Talk about the great new Metric track, Help I'm Alive? Or should I shed some light on my recent discovery (via my excellent-tasted friend Ryan) of Paul Baribeau? Well, after not all that much deliberation on the subject at all, I've decided to cover all [...]

So, Valentine's Day has come again. You know that all over the world men, women and, especially, teenage boys are going to be dedicating "Creep", "Hallelujah" and uhm... "I Will Always Love You" to their loved ones. Leonard Cohen, Bright Eyes, and Brian Adams, Death Cab for Cutie, Magnetic Fields, and The Beatles will be heard on stereos, ipods and gramophones (for the old-school) all day long. If you don't want to bore your boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/husb and/crush with the same ol' same ol' here are some lo-fi and possibly less known songs that are begging to be dedicated to someone, [...]

Let's keep the Paul Baribeau love going, shall we? You may recall that Baribeau was in town with posi-core hyper kids Good Luck a month ago. Seems they not only made the trek across the country safely, they have also managed to drop some good songs to boys and girls all along the way. On the west coast, in my former town of Santa Barbara, CA, there's a little show space called "The Biko Garage" which was once rocked by the likes of Toboggan Monster and recently played by Good Luck and [...]

Paul Baribeau When Paul Baribeau came to town earlier this summer, I previewed it on my other blog ( We Listen For You ) with a line I stole from a friend of mine: "Paul Baribeau wants to make you cry." But, he was all smiles at Skull Alley on Saturday night, joking with the crowd, saying "This is the tour where I plug my guitar in." Someone in the audience yelled - "Bob Dylan goes electric!" And Paul sheepishly responded - "Yeah he called me up. He said 'Paul, [...]

photo by Mercedes Rodriguezphoto by Joseph Peter Remember those Taco Bell Commercials that were about the "fourth" meal? Well, Skull Alley is serving up all four of your DIY/Indie meals on Saturday the 13th at 7 pm when they welcome Bloomington's own Good Luck , with beard superstar Paul Baribeau , Xerxes , and The Wax Intellectual. These people are used to playing house shows so bring some Vegan cookies, put on your short shorts, and be sure to forget to comb your hair. It's going to be a great time. [...]
