It's been a long time running for this years Peak Performance Project ... but it, unfortunately, is soon coming to an end. All of the artists this year have been outstanding, and all have worked so hard. It's been a tough decision, but Winnie is reserving her vote for Vancouver's very own Jasper Sloan Yip . You'll see why after you check him out with Sunny Pompeii October 10th @ The Railway Club (Songkick details here ). Jasper is also giving out his album for free (or "name your price") as [...]
Local, indie singer/songwriter Jasper Sloan Yip made a video ... a really awkward one too. Jasper is in The Peak Performance Project's top 20 artists this year. The Peak PP is a yearly competition put on by 100.5 The Peak with over 100k at stake; that's a lot of scrillz. Why do we want him to win? To see how awkward his "thank you" speech is on stage. New song up today from arguably the most exciting/buzzworthy band hailing from the great white north right now. There Are Very Tiny Beasts In The Ground can be found on Kelowna-based We Are The City's 2009, and subsequently 2010 re-released, album "In A Quiet World". The band began making their first steps from the summer [...]

A couple weeks ago the Peak Performance Project ended, an ambitious radio-sponsored project that brought some well-deserved attention to a bunch of British Columbia bands (like The Painted Birds and Adaline ). When the project reached its finale, three bands were left standing: We Are The City , The Left , and Bend Sinister . To be honest, at that point I thought it was a lock: Bend Sinister had this thing. They make incredibly fun, BIG music (imagine that Elton John mated with Queen and you have a hint [...]
Vancouver indie-rock/pop ensemble The Zolas are back with another deceptively infectous track from their 2009 debut album "Tic Toc Tic". Produced by Howard Redekopp (notable for prducing albums from Tegan and Sara , The New Pornographers , and Mother Mother ), Tic Toc Tic does well in delivering a three-piece band wrapped in a full-stage sound; The Great Collapse is a fine example that features it's own brass section, as well as an organ contribution that sounds like it could be a string section. The band is currently in the midst of a western Canadian [...]
