Lo and behold, another great act find their way to Northampton, with some other noteworthy musicians in tow. The Glitch Mob, three composers of digital noise, and the rock-electronica Phantogram played at the Pearl Street Night Club last night. (Com Truise opened but unfortunately we missed them.) Pearl Street isn't exactly my favorite venue as it's run by, well, policing nazis. Not only did they refuse to let my boy Sabato into the concert with his camera, I swear I saw security details confiscate glowsticks from teenage girls throughout the concert. Curiously, no one ever investigated the plumes of marijuana [...]

First of all, the weather couldn't have been nicer for my foray into festival season. For those of you who dwell in a more normal climate, Colorado sees snow into mid May, so one never knows this time of year. But, as I said, the weather cooperated and made for a gorgeous night that it was a pleasure to be outside in. I arrived at the Boulder Theater just in time for Gregory Alan Isakov 's set. Gregory's music is [...]

This weekend the inaugural Pearl Street Music Festival embarks on its maiden voyage of awesomeness, taking over its namesake thoroughfare with terrific music and art. Friday night I am seeing The Lumineers , Ian Cooke , Gregory Alan Isakov , Mason Jennings , and a night-closing set on the marvelous low stage of the Boulder Theater by The Head and The Heart . I couldn't pick a [...]

I'm taking a deep breath as I post this. It may be one of the last before I launch myself into festival season here in Colorado. There are a lot of amazing things coming up, but this one starts it all off. For two days (May 6th and 7th), Boulder becomes home to the Pearl Street Music and Arts Festival . Boulder is what most people picture when they think of Colorado- a small town feel with gorgeous mountain views. In the heart lies Pearl Street, which is packed with [...]
Whether your embrace it, or hate it, Curren$y is taking over this new age of Hip-Hop. When Curren$y got on stage, the smoke filled the room, and the good times started to roll. Curren$y, who has been known for his crafty flow over ill beats, took a more acapella stance to show, making it more intimate and giving different perspective of his music. Even with Pearl Street probably being one of the highest places in the Northeast that night, the crowd fed off of Curren$y's energy making the crowd as a whole quite enjoyable to be in. [...]
Late last night, Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein took to his Twitter feed to spew a bunch of hashtags that signaled the band would start Bisco Inferno Weekend early at 14th and Pearl Street in Boulder, CO at 4PM the following day. The tweet sparked a "flash mob" that gathered today, just hours before the quartet's show at the Boulder Theatre, to watch the quartet perform four songs, mostly acoustic, over the course of an hour. The Biscuits posted a 160-second clip of the wild scene... I-Man started [...]

When I walked into Pearl Street , I had no idea I would soon encounter Mick Jagger's incarnated self in The Booze's lead singer Chaz Tolliver; watch a musical giant (quite literally) in Earl Greyhound's Matt Whyte; or get blasted in the face by OK Go's confetti canons. When I walked out of Pearl Street, I had a new expectation for how head-shakingly fantastic every other Tuesday night show should be. If you get a chance to see any of these bands, I highly recommend [...]

For those who have only heard of Northampton, Mass and have never visited, the first thing that probably comes to mind about this Western Mass small town is that it is Lesbian Town U.S.A. Yeah, okay, this is true. Northampton, or NoHo (as the locals like to call it) is home to many lesbians as it's in a state where gay marriage is legal and the town is home to Smith College, an all-girl private institution notorious for its liberal and feminist student body. On just about every corner you can pick up The Advocate or The Rainbow [...]
