Self-titled albums are one thing. But when a band names one of its songs after itself - or, alternately, when a band names itself after one of its songs - it's a pretty big deal. The song itself comes off looking something like a mission statement, an encapsulation of everything that the band means. When Bad Company names a song "Bad Company," they want you to know that this song is what they're all about . Not too many bands have been brave enough to attempt this trick throughout history. For some reason, a lot of [...]

Here's some more hot nederbiet for ya, with vocals in English this time, from a cool compilation I picked up recently called Dutch Beat Explosion . Do try on these rough but utterly charming mid-sixties treats with a strong Beatles influence from the land of windmills, clogs, and coffeeshops. My fave? The amazing Rodys from Groningen Rock City, who come on like a wild cross between the Kinks and Barrett-era Floyd. "Just fancy living between the people without ears..." My point exactly. The Sandy Coast - Subject Of My Thoughts [...]

CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin recently talked to The Black Pacific frontman Jim Lindberg regarding the balancing act of being a punk rocker and a father. The interview features footage from the documentary The Other F Word , based in part on Lindberg's book Punk Rock Dad: No Rules, Just Real Life , and focusing on that apparent disconnect between being an authority figure while taking part in a scene that traditionally rejects such figures.

Not that it really has anything to do with this, but back when we were much younger and before we were married, the wife and I drove down from Indianapolis to Bloomington to see Sloppy Seconds at some club there. They were awesome as is their Christmas song, "Hooray For Santa Claus." And if you want more than just the few songs below, here are the links to Day 1 , Day 2 , Day 3 , Day 4 , and Day 5 of this series. MP3: [...]
[We're feeling a bit edgy this morning at Buzz Bands HQ. Prescribed:] Jim Lindberg broke a few South Bay hearts in mid-2009 when he exited Pennywise, only to raise some eyebrows less than a year later when he debuted the Black Pacific , the proto-punk outfit with a current lineup of Alan Vega, Gavin Caswell and ex-Dropkick Murphys guitarist Marc Orrell. The quartet's self-titled debut, out in September on SideOneDummy , packs a familiar punch, proving that, at 45, Lindberg is still adept at raging against the system, as captured [...]

Bad Religion, Circle Jerks, Naked Raygun, Propagandhi, Snapcase, Bouncing Souls, Cap'n Jazz and Pennywise are just a few of the 60+ bands playing Riot Fest, held at select Chicago venues now through the weekend. The festival mixes old with new, and there are a few secret shows going down, too. For a primer on Chicago's early punk rock scene, Regressive Films produced the fantastic " You Weren't There : A History of Chicago Punk 1977-1984.″ The film features in-depth profiles of nationally recognized bands like Big Black and Naked Raygun, as well as groups [...]
Pennywise members involved in altercation with Alesana Altpress recently reported that Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge and bassist Randy Bradbury "attacked members of Alesana on their bus last night following Warped Tour in Denver". According to Alesana frontman Shawn Milke: "Just to clear the air of any rumors, last night upon returning to our bus after a night out with friends, both our band and our tour manager were attacked blindly by by two very drunk members of Pennywise.
