A surprisingly dynamic Canadian technical death metal outfit right here: Beyond Creation. The band recently dropped its debut LP on PRC Music, and it's been getting some pretty positive reviews, and it's not hard to figure out why. For one, it's nice to hear stuff like this that doesn't sound like triggered drums and plastic guitars. The vocals are performed pretty well, but what sticks out as being the most unique to me is the bass. Sometimes music video can change your all perception of a song. In this case it has, tremendously. When I first heard Girls' new single "Vomit", I was heavily underwhelmed and really have had no interest in playing it more than once. Maybe it's because I was craving a "Lust For Life" Part 2. I'm confused. Marietta rapper Perry Rodriguez, aka Perrion , is set to release his latest mixtape, Le Bourgeon , this Saturday. With so much time and effort invested in this project, you'd think he'd be pushing the new cuts like crazy and working to pump out a video for his bomb ass lead joint, "Seamless." Instead, this week Perrion dropped a video for "G Shit (Heaven Sent)," a remix to Warren G taken off his Perception mixtape released last year. It's all a bit of a headscratcher. Changing perceptions. Fifteen years ago I basically lived in Bucktown and it was largely a dangerous wasteland. Ten years ago I would've made fun of myself for living in Bucktown as the yuppies swarmed in. Now I live here again and love it, despite the yuppies. I put in plenty of time living in sketchy 'hoods all over Chicago. I'm OK with now living somewhere I can chill out and not feel threatened when I go for a walk.
