The month of January was named after the Roman goddess Janus who had two faces. Like the goddess, January is the month of the year when we both look back on the previous year that is over as well as ahead to the year coming up. I just posted my favorite releases for 2011 - here is a list of releases that I'm looking forward to in 2012. The Right Now - sophomore release (April 21st) - The Chicago R&B group The Right Now has had a pretty great run since their [...]
I'm not the biggest cake fan. I think cupcakes are fun, and I like tres leches cake but I'd rather have a birthday pie, bars or even birthday cookies. So this year when my mom suggested my grandmother's carrot pudding for my birthday today-I said, "great"! This recipe was perhaps my grandma's signature dessert and I remember eating and loving it as a kid and adult. In fact, I only found out recently that this recipe is actually English-and there's not much modification from the English recipe that was handed down to my grandma. [...]
Kelli's brother Chris came to visit and attend the Foo Fighters concert with us tomorrow night. Today is his birthday which is kind of fun. A couple of days ago a package came to the house for Kelli. She opened it up and there were two giraffe t-shirts from Threadless. (Yes Nicole, Anna would be super jealous of these t-shirts.) This morning Chris apologized for not getting one for me too. I told him he didn't need to, but I thought that was very sweet he thought of me. Yes, Chris got [...]
I'm taking a "freebie" today for NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month). I realized a couple of days ago that the sinus infection I picked up a couple of weeks ago has now morphed into bronchitis which is why I'm feeling fatigued and have been wheezy off and on. I'm getting better, but I have many ideas for posts that I've neglected to write this past year that hopefully I'll get up on here. At the least, I'll hopefully get to archiving some of the projects I've made this weekend. Meanwhile, I leave you the following thoughts [...]
Photo taken by Tim Bugbee I feel like I've arrived at the party late. While I was familiar with the work of John Fahey and his proteges like Leo Kottke , until recently I didn't really look into the phenomenon that is generally known as " American Primitive ." Musicians I follow closely like Joey Burns of Calexico, and MC Taylor from The Court & Spark and Hiss Golden Messenger, and the guys from [...]
The dusty desert highway of Tuscon-native band Calexico's 15-year career is dotted with a notable collection of passionate Latin infused Americana (for lack of another general category to place them). While the band may not be familiar to most, their music shows up in many places- from interstitial music in NPR to movie soundtracks and in their many collaborations (including one fantastic album with The Iron and Wine ). If only for these works, Calexico will stand as one of the important and influential American bands. Along this [...]
Today it was announced that Garbage is back in the studio in L.A. after a seven-year hiatus following their 2005 studio album Bleed Like Me , which was their highest-charting album at #4 on Billboard Top 200 Album chart. As-yet-untitled, the album is projected to release in Spring 2012, and the band posted earlier that there should be a song coming out in October. They've been in the studio all summer in L.A. recording in a basement, and apparently at the infamous Western Recorders (now called EastWest Studios ). The progress [...]
1921 ~ 2011 True Roundy Feild, daughter of George Spencer Roundy and Hannah Agnes Marchant Roundy, completed her time on earth and left us early in the morning of September 2, 2011. She was born September 19, 1921 in Peoa, Utah where she spent her life. She loved her home in the mountain valley and the people there. True graduated from South Summit High School and Utah State University where she obtained a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She taught 3rd grade in Kamas. After her marriage to [...]

So, the earthquake yesterday? Honestly, it wasn't the strongest quake I've ever felt, but that might be due to the fact that I was sitting in a building that was dedicated in the 1930's and is rock solid. The first 10-15 seconds felt like someone moving furniture on the floor above us. After that, the building started shaking. I realized immediately what was going on and moved into the doorway. The quake stopped after about 45 seconds or so. My co-workers immediately started speculating. One thought it might've been a bomb, but that idea [...]
My wife had a wedding makeup gig in Mt. Vernon on Saturday and since I didn't have a lot going on I offered to come along and help her load in and out. I figured I'd check out the antique shops to see what books or vinyl they might have. Unfortunately, there used to be a really great record store in Mt. Vernon above one of the art stores. I guess the father of one of the owners of the store had a large record collection that they wanted to sell, so they ran a store for a while. [...]

It's Time to Play B-Sides Top 10 Albums of 2011
Here we are in the final month of 2011 and it is time for the Top lists. I started this last year for the first time , and I think it was a pretty good exercise. 2011 for me personally was a time of change- I was laid off from a job I had for over 13 years and spent most of 2011 unemployed. As I write this, I'm happily employed, though I'm having to deal with the fallout of being unemployed for so long. If it wasn't for the friends and contacts I made through this [...]

What I Learned over the Weekend
1) That our dog, 13 year old Lady died. 2) My friend had no idea that Japan and the U.S. was playing the final in the Women's World Cup. Ironically, my friend is half Japanese and at least her father was following the game closely. 3) When my mom went to put a cover over Lady, Lady jumped up. Both my mom and the dog were surprised. 4) I've been asked to teach Sunday School. The best part about this assignment? No class to teach.
Dear Blog
Blog, I haven't forgotten you, it's just been a weird month, so I've taken a breather from you. Don't worry, we'll be back together before too long.
Very Short, Very Brief
Saw the Doctor on Wednesday, he decided and I agreed that I'm genetically "impervious" to current Western Medicine asthma medications and that the next step was Theophylline. He also told me his twin brother was on Theophylline and it really helped his asthma. My first reaction was no more treatments and that I needed to move to Arizona (or Mexico or anywhere on the Western side of the Continental Divide) yesterday, not to mention that I really resented my Northern European mutt ancestry. After forgetting my phone again, [...]
