We already shared one track from the The New York Renaissance mixtape today, but after spending a bit of time with the tape, we've also got to draw attention to the tape's second track. "Compliments 2 The Chef" sees a laid-back Action Bronson surfing another Harry Fraud beat, happily interlacing food, drug and vaguely spiritual imagery like only a New York chef turned rapper can. The whole tape is well worth a download or listen, both of which can be had over at the online mixtape warehouse that is DatPiff . Read [...]

Well well, we had an awesome time at the Jonnie Common gig last night, and I am now on my way to SXSW for tequila and fun, and our bloody house is doubtless being turned into an apocalyptic mess of a recording studio by half the bloody bands on the label in our absence. Fuckers. Anyhow, I've been unusually organised with booking Toad gigs this year, and we already have a full schedule of awesome stuff between now and the Festival, at which point I will go into hiding until September. For now, however, we have a solid [...]

Man Edinburgh's being a little tease at the moment. It's cold, but the sun is out, and from the safe confines of my office it's all too easy to look out the window and think that Spring really is in the air. Of course, once you go outside such myths are dispelled, but there's nevertheless something immensely cheering about bright sunshine, even if it's cold. In fact, probably especially if it's cold. This week's podcast is relatively poppy, actually. Some awkward stuff in there I suppose, but for the most part it's possibly a [...]

I have to say, I am not that convinced by the band name - lucky the music's good. There are two songs on their Soundcloud page and for all that doesn't tell you much about a band, I certainly think these two tunes show great promise. First tune Sleep With Me Baby is a louche, easy tune which recalls Mac DeMarco a wee bit. It's electronic pop, but lazily slow, and delivered with something of an arched eyebrow. It's lo-fi too, but the vocal is rich and soothing (or slightly predatory, if [...]
![[LP] Peter and Kerry – LA TRIMOUILLE (w/ “Annie” + “Fifty In The $lot$”)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4724860_lg.jpg)
but all your sighing heavily and semi-silent mutterings are another guarantee that it's too late to stop me Peter & Kerry's "Knees" is one of my favorite sad-sack breakup folk songs in recent years so it was a pleasant surprise to hear them pepping things up for the sonically fun yet still break-up-y "Split For The City." The fun kept coming when months late I finally got my hands on their debut full length La Trimouille . The album takes the elements of "Knees" that made it so infectious and blends them with [...]
I love a really solid pop song and this guy, "Come Night" by Sibille Attar , is about as sugary as they come - of course it's Swedish, produced by one of the dudes in Peter, Bjorn and John , no less. (via Pitchfork )
These two talented acts from the Windy City are here with an early Christmas present in the form of this fun new video.
Shot and chopped by J. Frank Visuals. Lili K. and Peter Cottontale are definitely in the holiday spirit as they drop off a new visual for "A Christmas Song". The duo's soulful rendition of the classic find them enjoying the holiday with more than a few familiar faces. I'm just going to assume that our invitation got lost in the mail. Ha! PETER is a Glasgow trio that plays some simply stated somber electronic pop tunes. I find myself being attracted more and more to bands/musicians/artists that use restraint instead of... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Or at least that's what we've here been led to presume... PETER. are a Glasgee three-piece trading in dulcet, lo-fi pop shiners not dissimilar to those almost mechanically chinked out of Fuyija & Miyagi, who most likely comprise a Peter in there somewhere. Somewhat more conclusive, meanwhile, are the lustful to the verge of wistful vocal intonations of Sleep With Me Baby. Far from as sordid as it may first sound though arguably a little more stalker-friendly, they begin: "I wanna live in your home/ I wanna see what you do." There goes the faux baritone that [...]
PETER For me the appeal of Beach House stems from how their songs start with the most basic of approaches, like a drum tick or the slight hum of an organ. All this, before fledging, (blooming, if you will) into something fully realised and startling. PETER make music of a more understated nature than Baltimore’s finest. But there’s a similar sensation when hearing ‘ Sleep With Me Baby’ . It begins playfully with drum machine patterns and light synths, before stark instrumentation arrives alongside deep, crooning vocals. Like [...]

some of the time i dream that you've slipped through my fingers and abandoned me I've posted Peter & Kerry's "The Summer House Song" before but it's their heartbreaking breakup song "Knees" that is their true classic. They've now come back around with this far more uplifting jam. Oh wait, thats just the beat. The lyrics are still about abandonment and heartbreak. Leave it up to the Brits to make such paranoid sorrow sound so fun and bouncy.

In case you did not know, Peter is Yuksek, France's own electrorock hero. The Magician is of course the renowed producer who's captivated us with his excellent and well-named magic tapes. Following on from the rather large "Twist", their second single "Memory" is as equally infectious and set to be as recurrent as its predecessor. [...]
