"Has anyone ever written anything for you?" Stevie Nicks asked on a 1989 B-side. As far as I know, the answer would be no. Who even "writes" anymore? If not face to face, most communication these days is done by tapping a keypad with your fingers. And texts, instant messages and Facebook wall posts will never count. My ex-boyfriend said he bought me a card for my last birthday, and I presume that he wrote something in it, but he forgot it at home when he came [...]
As described by the band, Their Ocean cover 'In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel "as if (they) were underwater in a spaceship filled with peanut butter"

This man and his band have a way about them. The way Bon Iver decides to recreate the Peter Gabriel classic, "Come Talk To Me" is an especially good example. Layers of echoey vocals and even more layers of horns, guitars, maybe even ukulele(?) populate most of the song, but near the end there is a little build up with an added drum, some jumbled instruments creating a generally aesthetically sound. Regardless of the fact that it comes from the For Emma, Forever Ago era of Bon Iver, it's great tune for being out west [...]

I've always preferred Genesis with Peter Gabriel, so I'm not afraid to admit that I've mostly ignored the Phil Collins lead material post 1977. Surprisingly, I finally have been given a reason to pay attention though. Hip-hop legend and Wu-Tang personality Raekwon dropped a new mixtape for New Years titled Unexpected Victory . Its stand out track? A Genesis sampling, Mobb Deep featuring jam tingling with raw, arrogance and 802s infused excellence. Download it here.

Geographically speaking, I don't think I could be further from Scotland and still be in the UK. You'd never guess that from reading this blog however, as Scottish acts seem to be dominating my tastes for the last few years. 2011 has been no exception, and four albums on this list have their roots firmly planted north of the borders. As well as being a year for Scots, 2011 appears to be the year of the Return To Form. In itself this is a good thing, as recent years have seen more disappointing highly-hy ped albums than good ones, but it means there's a [...]

I love watching great performances or well-made documentaries featuring my favorite artists from the comfort of my couch. In 2011 a number of fantastic music-related films came out and it was nearly impossible to pick the 10 best efforts, so for 20112s list of my favorite concert films of the year, I expanded the list to 15 and there were still a few fine efforts which didn't make the cut. So with that in mind, we continue our long-standing tradition of detailing my top music-related DVDs/Blu-Rays of the year... 15. [...]
Happy holidaze everyone. I'll (sadly) be out of town all week, which makes recording and posting music hard. My plan is to have two most posts this week though. One will be without music, focusing on my favorite (and least favorite) albums of the year. The other will have awesome dance tracks. Let's hope that all pans out. Tonight: 80s pop! What's a better way to celebrate whatever holiday you pretend to care about in order to get gifts? Art Of Noise Moments In Love (Long Version) [...]

Photo and autograph courtesy of G's insanely huge in-person autograph collection. Peter Gabriel - So There's so much good news to report here, so let's start at the beginning! 2012 will mark the 25th anniversary of Peter Gabriel's classic album "So." A special reissue is being planned (read: PLEASE put the 123 version of "In Your Eyes," "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time" on the set) for next year. Peter Gabriel is calling on fans to contiribute pictures, photos, memories of [...]
Brit-born singer/songwriter Charlie Winston relocated to Paris a few years ago where his stylized folk/pop has garnered him #1 albums and a devoted fan base. A chance meeting with Peter Gabriel nearly a decade ago resulted not only in a label deal via Gabriel's Real World imprint, but a friendship as well (Winston also logged a few hours as babysitter in the Gabriel home). "Hello Again" arrives via Winston's new album Running Still (available now in Europe and Canada) and delivers his combination of gypsy folk and solid jazzy pop hooks with [...]

Peter Gabriel captured doing "Here Comes The Flood" on the 1979 Kate Bush Christmas special. The song can be found on his first solo album .

Regardless of your spiritual allegiance or thoughts regarding freezing temperatures, the winter/holiday season is an interesting one. There's something about this period of the calendar year that just feels different from everything else. Summer has the vibe and energy of hot, sticky freedom; spring lives and breathes with the promise of a reawakening; and fall is all about getting in line and preparation. Winter, though, is slightly more splintered. Some people see Christmas/Hanukkah/the Winter Solstice/Festivus as a time for family and friends and celebrating the inherent warmth and goodness in us all. Others view these as tired traditions, [...]

I had no clue that CBS was posting near full-sets of artists who appeared on Late Show with David Letterman. Below is a 68 minute set from Peter Gabriel that was recorded on Nov. 9th. The show consists of performances from Peter Gabriel's most recent album, New Blood , which features revamped, orchestral versions of fan and personal favorites from his solo career. New Blood is available in a 2-disc edition for ~$13 (so there is no reason to get the single [...]

Photo by G. Peter Gabriel and Geoffrey Dicker I don't know what to say about Peter Gabriel other than he is one of my music gods. I've had more good times to his music than I can even say. When I first heard his album "3" (aka "Melt" aka "Peter Gabriel"), with a little help from my friends, I can truly say that my life was changed that night. Songs like "Here Comes the Flood," I can listen to endlessly (and have) and of course, his [...]
Last night our old friend /life champion Peter Gabriel turned up at the Ed Sullivan theater with a black-clad orchestra. Peter's promoting his symphonic LP New Blood , a sequel/extension of last year's Scratch My Back orchestral covers album and tour; on Scratch , he recorded takes on folks like Arcade Fire , but Blood is all his own, refitted for large, classical ensemble. Corban, Scott, and I went to this taping, sat shivering (it really is cold) in the Ed Sullivan balcony, admired Peter's hokey [...]

Peter Gabriel has been touring most recently with the backing of a full orchestra that has breathed "New Blood" into a slew classic songs. And cover songs for that mater, which is the name of his latest album that Gabriel's supporting, "New Blood." After watching the performance from last night, I wholeheartedly regret not catching him at Red Rocks this past summer. I probably would've been choked up after two songs. Peter Gabriel-Red Rain (live on Letterman) [mp3]

While the act of rock stars performing in front of orchestras has become much more common these days, not every musician can pull if off. Last night during his Live On Letterman webcast taping at the Ed Sullivan Theater, Peter Gabriel showed that both he and his music were the perfect vehicles to front a 46-piece orchestra. Not only does Petey Gabes have powerful pipes that easily move to the forefront, but his songs are filled with dramatic moments that the orchestra can seize upon. Over the course of close [...]
