It's been a long time since we've seen anything new from Phantom Planet since the band went on hiatus back in 2008 after the release of "Raise the Dead". But last year they announced that they will be making their return in 2012. Phantom Planet have scheduled a Los Angeles show to take place on Wednesday, June 13th at the Troubadour along with local band HAIM . Tickets for this show are available to purchase online now through Ticketfly for $15.00 plus any additional service fees. These tickets are [...]

Great news for 2012. Phantom Planet have announced an end to their three hiatus. They are planning some shows for 2012 and are tossing around the idea of recording a new EP. What does this mean for the Alex Greenwald solo project/album? Who knows at this point, but regardless, this is great for PP fans. I hope the shows aren't limited to Cali, but I wouldn't be surprised considering Greenwald's recent lack of touring elsewhere. They've created a Twitter account for updates on the reunion and released some short footage of their first practice session since the [...]

PropertyofZach.com has reported that after a three year hiatus, Phantom Planet announced that they are planning to reunite in 2012 for some shows and have also been considering recording a new EP. The band has created a Twitter account, @phantomreunion and have also posted a video teaser playing "Knowitall' from their 2004 release Phantom Planet during their first rehearsal since 2008.
The Red 100's have a lot to be thankful for this year. Winning the DOMA for Best Blues Act, the band released an EP, Live Off the Floor, in April. Adding to pile of recordings, bassist/singer Ro... Continue reading "Robbie from The Red 100's on Phantom Planet, How Rock and Rock and Emo Don't Mix" >
This post might come off to you as super depressing and/or super sentimental, so I apologize and/or you're welcome. There have been many bands who've come and gone without much notice, but then there were those bands that announced their break up and you weeped for a few days straight with their best album on repeat (No? Just me? Oh...). You know this is an ominous fact that's bound to happen to most of your favorite bands (unless they're from the 60s/70s; the drugs were different then). It's something that we all must accept and savor while we [...]

Hello everyone! It's my birthday today, and I thought I'd share the birthday cheer by putting together a little mixtape for you all. It's an eclectic mix of some of my tracks I've been enjoying listening to recently - with a silly intro if you download the whole package. Make sure to listen in order, and hope you enjoy! Click on the image to download the entire mixtape as a [...]

eBay is a dange... hang on. How the fuck are you supposed to capitalise eBay at the start of a sentence? I suppose it has to be EBay doesn't it? It just looks wrong. ITunes? Damn these people and their stupid typography. I miss the days of Wilberforce Carmichael's Internet Music Emporium and the like. Anyhow, as I was saying, eBay is a fucking menace. I am looking up old record players on there at the moment, and have been distracted by even older mics. It's terrifying, particularly with their seductively low bids when things are a day [...]
We all love the GoDaddy commercials, but their actual server uptime is awful. Anyone have any suggestions for a new host? Anyways, here's more music. Hold on, you're about to go on a musical tangent. The Blow, which is now defunct, has this great song. The bass is fun and at least half of the band morphed into YACHT . The Blow - True Affection YACHT - It's Coming to Get You (Eats Tapes Remix) The Blow makes me sort of think of [...]
Boo! All Hallows' Eve is upon us. May I present to you 10 of my favorite music videos that are on the scary / creepy / frightful side. The North American Hallowe'en Prevention Initiative - "Do They Know It's Hallowe'en?" Queens Of The Stone Age - "Burn The Witch" Phantom Planet - "Big Brat" TV On The Radio - "Wolf Like Me" Circlesquare [...]

The countdown to Halloween begins.... I've noticed in my "Stats" department recently that the key search word used on Google, by people who stumble across this blog unintentionally, during the last week or so has been "phantom". I think it's because the picture i used in this Halloween post last year is one of the first to pop up in the Google image search engine. Anyway it's time to bring back the Phantom in the form of his very own Monday List. "I Am [...]
Filed under: The Hit List After exhausting the James Brown, Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes archives, rap producers have found an unlikely new source for their samples: indie music. Whether it's Jay-Z biting from little-known soul revival outfits like the Menahan Street Band or Lupe Fiasco gettin' busy over Radiohead, indie rock is showing up on more hip-hop and R&B hits than Lil Wayne. Since Kanye [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive , Television On top of his acclaimed acting career, ' Bored to Death ' star Jason Schwartzman is also a respected musician, first from his days with Phantom Planet and now with his own Coconut Records project, which provided the show's noir-ish theme song. As both the star and a musician, it would seem natural that Schwartzman would have a lot of input into the program's just-released [...]
Filed under: Video , The Hit List , Television A TV show's theme song has always been an integral part of the viewing experience. But now that classic openings like ' All in the Family ' and ' Cheers ' are gone, more and more full-time rock bands have had their songs featured on the small screen. In celebration of the fall TV season, [...]
Summertime is vacation time. Roadtrip time. So sweaty you stick to your chair my God why don't I live in a more temperate climate time. So where do you go at a time like this? "California! Californiaaaaaa! Here we COOOOOOOOMMMMME!" Excuse me. I believe I slipped into the theme song of the O.C. for a moment. I thought about making every track on this list "California" by Phantom Planet, but I'm fairly certain I am the only one who would think that is funny. So instead, here a legit list [...]

The Californian of singer-guitarist John Graney isn't the buff, happy-go-lucky dude you see pictured on the postcard with swimsuit models. He's desperate, and maybe a little it shadowy, and — judging by the straight-out-of-a-chase-scene guitar lines that open the title track of his "Sea of Love" EP — probably on the run from something. His emotions, for one. Graney's twist on the California construct is manifested in his music, which is something of a Raymond Chandler take on surf guitar: Ride the crest of riffs, revel in vintage pop choruses, but watch out for the reverb — there's an [...]
