UK supergroup Apparatjik (which features members from Coldplay, a-ha, and Mew) took a novel approach to the release of their sophomore LP, Square Peg In A Round Hole . Back in November, the band released an initial version of the 12-track album, with the intent of subsequently releasing 10 weekly crowd-produced "drafts" of the record, featuring new edits and musical tweaks. Urban Noize is a music production team based out of Miami, FL, that has put out a number of solid remix/mashups this past year. I just came across one featuring Jay-Z, Pharrell, and the up-and-coming Lana Del Rey that has some nice flow. There's definitely a Bonnie & Clyde feel to the song, as Jay-Z and Lana play off each other's vocals, constantly going back and forth. Urban Noize is incredible. This Miami based dj/producer duo kills the mashup/remixes. They blend songs while using their own production to tie the pieces together. It's quite amazing what they do. Cris Cab teams up with Mavado and Wyclef Jean for this track "Rihanna's Gun." This is straight out of left field and Cab does a 180 on his style. He always had a reggae vibe, but on this track he fully embraces his musical capabilities. Enlisting Mavado doesn't hurt either. And listen to that beat. There is a deep womp throughout the track. Kudos to Chris Cab on showing everybody what's up before his Echo Boom project is released through Pharrel's blog, Billionaire Boys Club. [...]
