[RH Photos] Spring Awakening Day 2

[RH Photos] Spring Awakening Day 2 Day 2 of this year's Spring Awakening showcased a lot of local love as noted Chicago groups and DJs PHNM, Team Bayside High, and Flosstradamus were joined by other big EDM acts like Bassnectar, Zeds Dead, Paul Oakenfold, Wolfgang Gartner, and others took to the four stages and got the EDM crowds sweaty. One thing I realized over the weekend is the very distinct anticipation in the air as everybody waited for the beat to drop. Once it happens, a sea of hands would erupt. The looks on everybody's face during that pause, the level of energy people keep up [...]

[Photography] Brazil Woke Up

[Photography] Brazil Woke Up What started out as frustration over a 10 cent increase in public transportation fares has exploded to thousands of Brazilians taking to the streets to protest social issues that have been plaguing the country. From Sao Paulo to Rio de Janerio, Brazilians are voicing their frustration against government corruption, poor health care, bad public education, violence, and taxes. There is resentment against the government for the raising of taxes in order for the country to get ready to host next year's World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics . The large question is how there's money to [...]

Dan Deacon @ The Drake Hotel Underground [NXNE 2013]

Dan Deacon @ The Drake Hotel Underground [NXNE 2013] It was the time I was very excited to see at the Drake Hotel Underground during NXNE 2013 on June 14th. Dan Deacon was the secret guest! Considering I heard that he played a wild set the before at the Horseshoe Tavern. Which is why I decided to head over to the venue and see his set. Boy was I in for a wild time. It was a wild fun dance party. [...]

Absolutely Free @ The Drake Hotel Underground [NXNE 2013]

Absolutely Free @ The Drake Hotel Underground [NXNE 2013] After Peal 's set was Toronto's Absolutely Free . I forgot they were playing at the festival. I was glad to catch their set in Toronto. Having seen them various times, they never disappoint with their indie loud experimental rock music. What I love about the Toronto music scene. No matter how big or small the band is, there is a great support system with their fans and friends. Totally a fun rocking set! [...]

Peals @ The Drake Hotel Underground [NXNE 2013]

Peals @ The Drake Hotel Underground [NXNE 2013] When I heard that Dan Deacon was the secret guest at the Drake Hotel Underground. I bolted (more like cab) to the venue. Before I got all excited for Dan Deacon, I had to see to see two acts before him. The first act was Baltimore's Peals . They had a unique set-up since it was on the floor and on the right side of the room. Peals is a band led by William Cashion (Future Islands) and Bruce Willen [...]

Download Festival 2013: Five Finger Death Punch @ Main Stage – Sunday, 16 June 2013

Download Festival 2013: Five Finger Death Punch @ Main Stage – Sunday, 16 June 2013 If you type Five Finger Death Punch's acronym (FFDP) too many times, it starts to look like a abbreviation of the kind of morbid sex act we couldn't possibly mention on our family-orientated website. Luckily they kept it pretty clean up on the Main stage at Download Festival 2013, apart from a few naughty swears by frontman, Ivan Moody. -- Five Finger Death Punch @ Download Festival - 16 June 2013 c/o Gary Wolstenholme [...]

Download Festival 2013: Ghost @ Zippo Encore Stage – Sunday, 16 June 2013

Download Festival 2013: Ghost @ Zippo Encore Stage – Sunday, 16 June 2013 There was no bigger hype-band at Download Festival 2013. Last year they played to a packed third stage, but since then they've had a new album, got a new Papa, and have graduated to the Second stage. But do they have the substance to pull it off? -- Ghost @ Download Festival - 16 June 2013 c/o Gary Wolstenholme [...]

Download Festival 2013: Airbourne @ Zippo Encore Stage – Sunday, 16 June 2013

Download Festival 2013: Airbourne @ Zippo Encore Stage – Sunday, 16 June 2013 You know you've made it as a genuine rock'n'roll star when a festival takes special precautions to stop you climbing up the stage scaffolding to lethal heights. That's the impact those chaps in Airbourne have had on the UK festival scene, and Download Festival 2013 was taking no chances. -- Airbourne @ Download Festival - 16 June 2013 c/o Gary Wolstenholme [...]

Download Festival 2013: Amon Amarth @ Zippo Encore Stage – Sunday, 16 June 2013

Download Festival 2013: Amon Amarth @ Zippo Encore Stage – Sunday, 16 June 2013 There may have a been a few technical problems that cut shor the length of Amon Amarth's set at Download Festival 2013, but they had a FRICKING VIKING LONGBOAT ON STAGE WITH THEM. We'll forgive pretty much anything because of that. -- Amon Amarth @ Download Festival - 16 June 2013 c/p Gary Wolstenholme Back [...]

AroarA @ Silver Dollar Room [NXNE 2013]

AroarA @ Silver Dollar Room [NXNE 2013] Went to the Silver Doom Room for Pop Montreal's NXNE showcase. I only caught the first band that played. It was AroarA . I heard some good things about this act because one of the members is Andrew Whiteman of Broken Social Scene. I almost got starstruck just because!! The female singer is Ariel Engle who is part of AroarA. They played a really great indie experimental and atmospheric rock music. Really enjoyed their set a lot! [...]

Mikal Cronin @ Silver Dollar Room [NXNE 2013]

Mikal Cronin @ Silver Dollar Room [NXNE 2013] Kind of took a break from the Arbutus Record's showcase at The Comfort Zone . So I was curious about the three night show that Mikal Cronin had at the Silver Dollar Room. This was the first night of the three night residency show. I only caught about two song during the set. It was very crowded so I couldn't get any good shots upclose of this set. Rest of the photos, click here .

The Balconies @ St. James Park [NXNE 2013]

The Balconies @ St. James Park [NXNE 2013] Later in the day. After leaving the Dine Alone Record's BBQ. Decided to hit up the free show taking place at St. James Park which is on the corner of Jarvis and King. The Balconies was playing a show under the gazebo. Mother nature did not cooperate because it started to rain. Anyways alot of people braved the rain to see the band perform live. They played a mix of new songs and of course favourites like Kill Count and The Slo. First [...]

Dine Alone Records’ Carni-Q [NXNE 2013]

Dine Alone Records’ Carni-Q [NXNE 2013] Started off my Thursday (June 13th) during NXNE at Dine Alone Record 's 2nd Annual Carni-Q. It was mostly a place to mingle and network. Also try out the food they had around. Wasn't aware that Dine Alone has their own beer through Flying Monkeys . There was even a "Beerologist"! I was [...]

Essex Estuary Evaluation

Essex Estuary Evaluation Last week, I volunteered to test a walk for the Royal Geographical Society's Discovering Britain website. It is a great website with lots of downloadable guided walks all over the country, My walk was along the Essex Estuary where the Thames meets the North Sea, and land meets water. It's only 40 minutes away from London but an interesting walk along a relatively ordinary landscape made even more interesting by the tour commentary.

Trackside London

Trackside London From time to time, as I travel on trains in and out of London, I see things that I want to find and photograph. This has led me into some fruitless forays such as wandering along several trackside streets looking for one large lavender bush - but never finding it. But occasionally, I do find and see something interesting such as these.

War, children...

War, children... Courtesy of Ed Ward comes this fantastic scan of a rare teaser ad for the newly formed Rolling Stones Records. It appeared on the full page 21 of the April 19, 1971, issue of Rolling Stone magazine. If anyone knows who shot the photo any info would be appreciated.
