Day 2 of this year's Spring Awakening showcased a lot of local love as noted Chicago groups and DJs PHNM, Team Bayside High, and Flosstradamus were joined by other big EDM acts like Bassnectar, Zeds Dead, Paul Oakenfold, Wolfgang Gartner, and others took to the four stages and got the EDM crowds sweaty. What started out as frustration over a 10 cent increase in public transportation fares has exploded to thousands of Brazilians taking to the streets to protest social issues that have been plaguing the country. It was the time I was very excited to see at the Drake Hotel Underground during NXNE 2013 on June 14th. Dan Deacon was the secret guest! Considering I heard that he played a wild set the before at the Horseshoe Tavern. Which is why I decided to head over to the venue and see his set. Boy was I in for a wild time. After Peal 's set was Toronto's Absolutely Free . I forgot they were playing at the festival. I was glad to catch their set in Toronto. Having seen them various times, they never disappoint with their indie loud experimental rock music. What I love about the Toronto music scene. No matter how big or small the band is, there is a great support system with their fans and friends. Totally a fun rocking set! [...]

Went to the Silver Doom Room for Pop Montreal's NXNE showcase. I only caught the first band that played. It was AroarA . I heard some good things about this act because one of the members is Andrew Whiteman of Broken Social Scene. I almost got starstruck just because!! The female singer is Ariel Engle who is part of AroarA. They played a really great indie experimental and atmospheric rock music. Really enjoyed their set a lot! [...]

Started off my Fridays (June 14th) during NXNE 2013 at Urban Outfitters . This year's free show took place on 481 Queen St West (Not the one on Yonge St) and on a Friday not a Saturday. Anyways I happen to catch Vancouver's electro-dance band Bear Mountain . I really enjoyed their set! Rest of the photos, click here .

Kind of took a break from the Arbutus Record's showcase at The Comfort Zone . So I was curious about the three night show that Mikal Cronin had at the Silver Dollar Room. This was the first night of the three night residency show. I only caught about two song during the set. It was very crowded so I couldn't get any good shots upclose of this set. Later in the day. After leaving the Dine Alone Record's BBQ. Decided to hit up the free show taking place at St. James Park which is on the corner of Jarvis and King. The Balconies was playing a show under the gazebo. Mother nature did not cooperate because it started to rain. Anyways alot of people braved the rain to see the band perform live. Started off my Thursday (June 13th) during NXNE at Dine Alone Record 's 2nd Annual Carni-Q. It was mostly a place to mingle and network. Also try out the food they had around. Wasn't aware that Dine Alone has their own beer through Flying Monkeys . There was even a "Beerologist"! I was [...]

Last week, I volunteered to test a walk for the Royal Geographical Society's Discovering Britain website. It is a great website with lots of downloadable guided walks all over the country, My walk was along the Essex Estuary where the Thames meets the North Sea, and land meets water. It's only 40 minutes away from London but an interesting walk along a relatively ordinary landscape made even more interesting by the tour commentary.

From time to time, as I travel on trains in and out of London, I see things that I want to find and photograph. This has led me into some fruitless forays such as wandering along several trackside streets looking for one large lavender bush - but never finding it. But occasionally, I do find and see something interesting such as these.

Caught like the last two songs by Toronto's Grounders . They were playing at the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern. I enjoyed their indie rock with abit of psych music. Kind of reminds me if Animal Collective went surf rock. Rest of the photos, click here .

• GROUNDERS - Speedboats

Spring Awakening was this past weekend. and what an experience it was. Taking place this year at the legendary Soldier Field, Spring Awakening attracted the legions of EDM fans from all across the country to deliver a weekend full of sweat, bright lights, and dancing. Day 1 featured a litany of DJs, including Robbie Rivera, PANTyRAID, Dirty South, R3hab, Milk n Cookies, Nero, and Friday headliner Moby. Courtesy of Ed Ward comes this fantastic scan of a rare teaser ad for the newly formed Rolling Stones Records. It appeared on the full page 21 of the April 19, 1971, issue of Rolling Stone magazine. If anyone knows who shot the photo any info would be appreciated.
