Rose, where have you been all our lives? This is the sound of January 16th, 2012. "Hanging Around" is excerpted here from Ms. Dougall's (who is a former member of Brit buzz band The Pipettes) just released "Distractions" EP. The EP's got an interesting mix of sounds of influences, particularly its blend of classic American pop and more far off shoegaze tones. So we're definitely listening now, and we're eager to hear more. To the bandcamp links: Hanging Around by Rose Elinor Dougall Rose Elinor Dougall [...]

****************************** ***** "I certainly don't think Thatcher is a feminist icon, she had no interest in social equality" so says Rebecca Stephens after we've conluded our interview and we can't help but think " Ahh, how we've missed you Becki!" So let's recap ! Brighton's polka dot 602s uber girl-group revisionists The Pipettes were undoubtedly great fun but one always suspected they had a time limited appeal and that creatively certain members of the group may have had more offer then forever playing the role [...]

Photo by celticblade Rebecca Stephens has a couple of things going for her: As RiotBecki, she had the best nickname of her polka-dotted pals in the 2006-era Pipettes (In blog years, We Are The Pipettes dates back roughly to the death of Christ) and she also took lead vocals on the group's best song, "Tell Me What You Want." Like fellow ex-Pipette Rose Elinor Dougall, Stephens now has a band of her own, the Projectionists, who I've been patiently following on various social networks for a year waiting for an actual [...]

Well my friends, it's that time of year again! November is a key month in the world of Aaron Loves Meghan... it's the month where we started dating, when we got engaged, and, of course, when we got married. And every year around this time we present our latest Aaron Loves Meghan mixtape! For the newbs, on Nov. 17th, 2007, Megs & I were married and at our wedding (which I iPod DJ'd) we gave everyone there a mixtape called Aaron Loves Meghan and, of course, posted it up on tsururadio. Since then, we've [...]

Toronto - There's certainly been no shortage of 60s doo wop girl revival bands these days but what makes New York's Bandana Splits special is that they wrote a song featuring my first name. The band is fronted by Dawn Landes, long known as the girl who did an exceptional cover of Peter Bjorn and John's Young Folks . Their album, Mr. Sam presents the Bandana Splits is available for streaming here . This track, asides from saying my name over and over again, has a playful harmonies and really good retro innocent vibe [...]
![[Ones To Watch] – Introducing – The Royalty](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3593489_lg.jpg)
Tweet A quick update on the music news for the week before I get started: The Righteous Brothers ' cover of "Unchained Melody" is on jukeboxes everywhere; anticipation for The Beatles ' up-coming album "Help!" is reaching fever pitch; and The Ronettes ' latest, "Is This What I Get For Loving You?", has flopped, rather embarrassingly. That's right: it's 1965. Relax, you've not really gone back in time. But there are moments on El Paso-fivesome The Royalty 's self-titled debut [...]

On April 23rd, I found myself back at the Red Palace yet again for my second DC concert, The Pipettes. I was very excited to see these sassy British ladies, and they did not disappoint. Apparently the two are sisters (is it just me or did there used to be a third?) and they were just plain delightful - in delightful matching costumes with delightful matching dance moves (simple enough so the

This review runs live and in color on Bowery's House List. The Pipettes appeared like an intensely fashion-coordinated vision, all in various permutations of checkered print, a throwback to a time when such collusion was charming, romantic and unironic. With two endearing female leads and an all-male backing band, they embrace the sounds of the '50s without toting its misogynist social mores.

The ladies of Slutever are back tonight at North Star Bar opening for UK's The Pipettes. It's their first gig since their raging record release show with JEFF the Brotherhood at Hong Kong Garden so the dynamic duo are probably itching to get back on stage. The Key recently posted an in-studio session with Slutever which you can check out HERE . After a slight delay with pressing, you can finally purchase their Pretend to Be Nice 7" black vinyl as well as its digital download via Bantic Media . Dear [...]
