A few years ago, the band formerly known as Pivot did something that not many bands do: they changed their name. While not exactly a decision made as part of any grand artistic vision (they were sued by the American band Pivot), the two-letter reduction to "PVT" came along with a new, more electronic vibe on their 2010 LP, Church With No Magic . While their previous three albums have been released to favorable reception, it seems that just as their name has become more rigid and mechanical, so has their music. [...]
Saba dropped his impressive debut project, GetCOMFORTable , almost a month ago and the 'tape cemented the emcee as one of the best Chicago artists on the come-up. His music has been steadily making waves in the local scene and on the blogoshpere prompting him to reach 1000 followers on Twitter earlier today. The crew is filled with talented young cats that take the craft seriously with ambition and real talent. Case in point, John Walt and his latest single "Never Again". Over an epic beat produced by Joseph Chilliams, Walt showcases his slick flow with some witty rhymes and a dope delivery. Saba and Thello Jay linked up on Friday for what was moreso going to be a meeting. 20 minutes later, Saba created this beat and shortly after that, they walked away with "Tell'em". This is a dope new joint from two of Chicago's newest artists to really emerge. Saba has a project dropping soon via rubyhornet, while Thello Jay is working on his next drop as we speak.
