Eli Escobar – Tuesday Morning [Vinyl Mix]

Woke up early today, pulled out some old records and hit record. Nothing fancy or anything, just a one take all vinyl mix like we used to do back in the day! I'm cool with that. You might remember Eli Escobar from his recent releases on Nurvous , the sister label to the legendary NY house giants, Nervous Recordings . After giving this set a thorough listening, I'm completely satisfied. One hour of pure early 90s house groove - it's almost therapeutic? Check it and give a listen to Eli's latest release, [...]

Single Serving: Case Studies – This Is Another Life

Single Serving: Case Studies – This Is Another Life Case Studies is the project of Seattle-songwriter Jesse Lortz (also from the band The Dutchess and the Duke). His sophomore LP,  This Is Another Life , is slated for release on June 11th. I haven't heard the whole release yet, but I pre-ordered a copy of the release based solely on the strength of the album's first single "Everything." It's a dusty, bluesy, folk ballad built from a swaying melody cracked together with a bright piano riff, jazzy percussion, and a softly strummed acoustic guitar. It's the perfect sort of tune for spending a little time alone with your thoughts and tackling [...]

Playlist: Poolside Blues

For us Torontonians, I think this past long weekend was one of the best ones weatherwise we've ever had. Not a cloud in the sky and hot as eff. As I lay poolside with my girls, I was inspired to compile this mix - something chill and soulful with a touch of R&B. And why not throw in some Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, AlunaGeorge and The Dream in for good measure? Sunglasses on, bikini tops off and volume up.

Soundcast: Craig Ward

THE awesome Craig Ward has found the time in his busy schedule to create us a Soundcast Spotify playlist, and boy are we glad he did. The former dEUS and The Love Substitutes guitarist has picked out some gems in the selection, which you can hear below. A spokesman for his label, Jezus Factory , said: "Craig Ward moved from Scotland to Antwerp after an invitation from Stef Kamil Carlens (dEUS, Zita Swoon) to holiday there. "It was a long holiday. "Craig joined Kiss My Jazz and found himself in the hub of a [...]

Stupefied: The Gary Asquith Playlist

Stupefied: The Gary Asquith Playlist This week's edition of the Stupefied playlist is from one my all time favorite frontmen, Gary Asquith, best known as a member of London's provocative and dubby Renegade Soundwave. Gary has long been involved with a bunch of interesting (no matter what, they're always interesting) projects beginning with early post punk efforts MASS, and Rema-Rema, moving on to Renegade Soundwave, and most recently with the Lavender Pill Mob, and some other more underground things. Here's what Gary had to say: This was harder than making [...]

The One: Senior Year

The One: Senior Year The end of May brings a welcome break from the barrage of patio brunch and festy pics that signal the arrival of spring on Instagram. According to my calculations, 100% of the people I know attended a graduation ceremony this past weekend, treating us all to rare glimpses into their family life with photos of wide-eyed little brothers and sisters ready to take the world by storm (once they sober up). But when I think of the senior year that set the course for my life, it's not college that comes to mind. It was four years earlier, [...]

Hot Since 82 Shares His Top 10 – Knee Deep in May 2013

Talk about a guy who's gained a good bit of traction over the past year - Hot Since 82 has been on a tech house tear since we last caught up with his Hot Jams EP with Noir Music. Not saying it's a popularity contest or anything but the Hot sound has been resonating over wide-ranging DJ sets for months now and receiving a fair deal of respect from all genres - and, of course, our respect as well. The Leeds-native has been busy these past couple months with shows [...]

[PLAYLIST] Monday Mix-up (5/20)

Just eight little tunes to wake you up and get you through the morning commute.  It's crazy how the music that I listen to right away in the morning can set the mood for the rest of the day.  Powerful shit.

Musical Pairings: Jessie Ware – Devotion

Musical Pairings: Jessie Ware – Devotion Until recently I didn't consider myself a fan of pop music. In fact, I'd once believed that pop music was the antithesis of everything I liked about music. In high school I'd have described myself as a fan of "alternative music" which meant I was obsessed with Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Bjork, and Radiohead's The Bends  and  OK Computer (after all, I am a child of the nineties.). Then in college I thought of myself as a fan of "indie music" which meant I was now obsessed with Modest Mouse, Grandaddy, Spoon, and Radiohead's Kid A and [...]

This is chapter 17 of the ongoing Rolling in the Deep Series! Today is full of techy-sounds and a tribute to Romanthony! As always, lots of great music, integrity, and special cover photo!
