Still devastated not to be doing Sónar this year, and it's precisely this kind of impactive deep house that only aggravates that sense of impending loss and longing. Inca Pax is the nom de plume of highly dextrous Bristol-via-Plymouth groove practitioner Cameron MacPhail, and By Mystery is something of an exemplary summertime slink the like of which had it been released via Dan Snaith's Jiaolong imprint would've long since (well, relatively speaking) ranked up there among the dance tracks of this year thus far. Instead, it's picked up a deplorably poxy 25 plays in a week or so, [...]

When I was young, I was pretty vocally defensive of Plymouth, the city I was born and raised in, to anyone who ever criticised it. Only when I went to university in Cardiff and visited places like Brighton, Manchester, Bristol, and London did I realise just how shit Plymouth was. There is no live music scene, there are (or at least were, thanks to The Last Shop Standing ) no indepdent record stores to buy new music, and there are even very, very few bands from or based in Plymouth - especially now Gorgeous Bully has pissed [...]
If the monumental bastard that is the triple dip recession has left you looking for Christmas presents in increasingly thrifty places – then consider your search to be over. Jack Robert Hardman ’s icy introductory track “Plymouth” is currently available on Soundcloud for the very reasonable price of free, and therefore makes the ideal slanted folk/pop crossover present for the demanding music connoisseur. But even if you’ve already finished your Christmas shopping, consider picking the track up anyway, because its poise between emotive, multi-layered melodies and something that sounds very much like pop music is pulled off really well. [...]

Woahnows are the latest band to emerge from the seemingly thriving Devonshire punk scene. The indie-punk three piece - comprised of Tim Rowing-Parker (also of Crazy Arm), Dan James and Adam Wherly - turned a few heads after releasing a split single with The Patrick James Pearson Band earlier this year, but now they've offered up something a little more substantial and I am not disappointed. The first release from Brighton's Unfun Records, 'Foma' is five tracks of, awesome, indie-fueled punk rock that, for once, might actually appeal to fans of both of those genres without offending either side. I [...]

Tweet #thebeastfromtheeast. Yep, it's coming. You know a weather system is the real deal when it gets it's own hashtag. At SGTMT HQ we're preparing in the appropriate fashion; Tom's wearing two Christmas jumpers (simultaneously), Tim's insulated his body by coating himself in a light layer of warmed lard and Luke is nowhere to be seen, we fear the storm got him... No matter how bad the weather, we'll keep the tunes spinning on our office jukebox and today we've got this [...]

My opinion of Plymouth is pretty grim; visits there are to be endured, rather than enjoyed, and when called upon to make the trip 'up north', I'm always filled with dread when the train crosses the Tamar and approaches Plymouth station. Who knows what I may end up sitting next to... I jest (partly), but Plymouth is the closest my beloved South West has to a gritty urban centre, and all the people there seem northern and scary. Jack Robert Hardman , however, has managed to retain the romantic, evocative air of adventurous potential that the city once commanded. [...]

'Go' is the first single from, indie punk trio, Woahnows. The Plymouth-based band - comprised of Tim Rowing-Parker (Crazy Arm), Dan James and Adam Wherly - recently embarked on a tour with, fellow Plymouth natives, The Patrick James Pearson band that earmarked them as a band to look out for over the coming months. The single has been released on a spit with, the aforementioned, PJP Band and will also be released on 'Foma' - the band's debut release via Unfun Records. Check out the video below.

The Patrick James Pearson Band - © 2012 Hannah Ryan I’ve only ever been to White Rabbit a couple times, but each time I've enjoyed my experience there. So, needless to say, I was looking forward to going again for Jerks, Woahnows and The Patrick James Pearson Band. With the pool table moved and the band's setting up, the crowd mingled in one of Plymouth's most intimate venues before Jerks kicked off the evening with their second ever gig. They set a wicked vibe and the crowd seemed pretty into it, nodding their heads and [...]

A new split single from, Plymouth natives, The Patrick James Pearson Band and Woahnows, 'I Am A Racer / Go!' shows off the differing musical directions of, Crazy Arm members, Patrick James Pearson and Tim Rowing-Parker. The PJP Band offers up a slice of, synth-fueled, indie-pop with 'I Am A Racer' and Woahnows edging towards the realm of indie-punk on 'Go!'. Both of which, I think you'll agree, sound nothing like the band that brings the two frontmen together. Whilst it's all too easy to dismiss something like The PJP Band out of hand these days, 'I Am [...]

In anticipation of the release of their new triple-A side single, Crazy Arm have unleashed the video for 'Bandalito'. I say "unleashed" because there's such a wild, intense, quality about this song and the accompanying video that it has to be seen/heard to be believed. Directed by, their own, Patrick James Pearson (also, funnily enough, a member of The Patrick James Pearson Band) it shows the Devonian roots-punks roaming around in the wilderness covered in warpaint. Of course, you do get to see a less feral side of the band too. It's just that, well, that's not as [...]

Plymouth artist Gorgeous Bully has been on a few bloggers' radars for a while now (BF first featured him six months back .), and his easily accessible lo-fi pop sound is certainly pleasing on the ear. But if there was one negative thing you could say about musician Thomas Crang's sound was that it can at times be a little too easy. As good as tracks like 'Quiet House' (taken from the Art Is Hard-released ' The Young Obese ' EP) are, his sound can sometimes feel there's something lacking. You might expect that [...]
I have my suspicions that Graham Coxon is some superhuman or android; how else do you explain his many solo albums, practically leaving his time in Blur in the dusty pages of back history. His latest album 'A & E' is being released on Monday (2 April), and he's got a UK tour lined up for April already. Tickets are on sale now. Listen to teaser track 'The Truth' below. Click here to view the embedded video. Friday [...]

1. Greetings from Kuwait! Loft965.com loves your new single! How do you feel about that and what do you think this year holds for you? I feel very happy and grateful people are taking to the music. I'm very excited for the year ahead. 2. When will the album be out and what will it be called? My new album is out now, it's called Heaven. [...]

The new track from Gorgeous Bully has slight a hint of Johnny Cash to it. That is, a slight hint of Johnny Cash behind tonnes of guitar and vocal distortion - something that the Plymouth musician has been making ace songs under for a good while now. With an EP out soon on Art Is Hard Records , and a seemingly effortless knack of writing pop songs buried below layers of noise, I'm looking forward to hearing more. That kind of girl by gorgeous bully [...]

Good old Muse have donated £15,000 worth of equipment and money to Plymouth University to encourage students on music courses. mp3 - Conrad Plymouth - I Am Not Waiting Anymore mp3 - Conrad Plymouth - I Am Not Waiting Anymore (live on WUWM radio) WUWM public radio posted a live recording of Milwaukee's Conrad Plymouth gripping "I Am Not Waiting Anymore" today. I had the chance to catch the band play a set infront of a packed house this Saturday at the Irish Pub, as a part of the Yellow Phone Music Conference. After seeing countless singer-songwriter/folk-esque acts over the past couple of years, it's easy to see [...]
