When I moved from the D.C. music scene to Farmington, NM I expected close to nothing in the area of "good music." I got less than that. In my most recent move to Pocatello, ID, home of Idaho State University and a handful of fantastic bars, I expected at least a little more. That little more quickly turned into a lot more as Finn Riggins kicked off their set at Flipside Lounge on Friday night. While Finn Riggins isn't from Pocatello, they ARE from nearby Boise, a place you East-coast snobs might not expect to find good music. [...]
Firstly, the illustrious Chenoa Roseberry will be guest-hosting tonight's program as I'm on holiday this week. Leaked information indicates that the set that will include the likes of Bitches , Devo, and the Meat Puppets, among others, so tune in for a rocking mix at 8 PM (MST). If you miss the broadcast, we'll be posting a playlist as well as a stream and download link in the coming days. Secondly, I anticipated having time to post this week's podcasts and playlists while on vacation, but just haven't been able to squeeze it [...]

It's another new release Tuesday and we see a fair amount of good things out today. We get to a new one from the Athens, Georgia psychedelic pop and folk group Elf Power . Their latest, In a Cave is out today, and it's a bit of a return to form for them. Their last two records had more of a folk leaning, but this record adds some of the fuzz back into the pop. Another thing that I'm extremely excited about is the remastered reissues of five albums from the innovative and formative group, [...]
DeVotchKa Another new release Tuesday is here, and a good day it is. Many good records are out, including one from the Denver, Colorado-based four-piece musical collective DeVotchKa . The group's name is an allusion to Anthony Burgess and the Russian-based word he coined for "young girl." Musically, it's a beautiful and sweeping combination of American folk and punk, mariachi, and Eastern European and Latin American sounds. Among other things, the group scored the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for the critically acclaimed Little Miss Sunshine and released Curse Your Little Heart , [...]
Band of Annuals Well, I'm extremely relieved and quite happy at the moment. I had my very first in-studio performance and interview today with Salt Lake City's alt-country unit Band of Annuals , and it couldn't have gone any better (for the first time). The bands members include Jay Henderson on acoustic guitar, vocals, and harmonica; Jeremi Hanson on vocals, wurlitzer, and organ; Brent Dreiling on pedal steel; Jamie Timm on electric guitar; and Charlie lewis on percussion. They really are quite fine folks and I'd like to thank them once again for coming [...]

Beat City Radio March 11, 2008: New Releases from The LK, Nick Jaina, The Diggs, and more..Plus World History, Kittens Ablaze, Little Beirut
Two apologies are in order today. First off, I'm sorry for not posting anything yesterday, but there wasn't much to miss as we played an archived edition of the show. Secondly, we had an in-studio performance and interview with local singer/songwriter A.W. Feldt on Friday, and somehow, the recording of the show did not save correctly, so it is forever lost. Hopefully we can get him back sometime in the near future. Apologies aside, it's another new release Tuesday and, although, not the busiest for new records, there are still a handul of records worth [...]
