Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin just added a lovely new track to Polyvinyl's Soundcloud and I decided it was share-worthy. I think you will, too. The track is off of the pending release called Fly By Wire , which is available for pre-order here . The song, called "Nightwater Girlfriend", features jangly verses giving way to a fuzzy-effected chorus and lovely bridge with the build back to the big break and a soft finish. Best thing I have heard from the band in a couple albums, IMHO.

"Death? Afterworld? Android lovers dying in the streets bleeding green blood? Homeless girls? Dogs stranded here from other planets?" The above is the opening line from the press release for ' Antenna to the Afterworld '; the dazzling and exuberant new record from Sonny & The Sunsets . And it's a record that genuinely, and rather touchingly, takes in all of those things, but also one that remains brilliantly human. The record was released last week via the wonderful Polyvinyl - and we grabbed a quick chat with Sonny [...]
Saturday Looks Good to Me founder Fred Thomas talks to NBHAP about maintaining an indie pop band, changing band line-ups, and the Great Lakes The post Interview: Saturday Looks Good to Me - "Jump in and start your life afresh" appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .
On his fourth release with the Sunsets, Sonny Smith follows his country-influenced last LP with a collection of eclectic pop numbers (largely) about extraterrestrial life.

The always wondrously-creative Deerhoof debuted the title track video from the band's most recent LP Breakup Songs , from director Pieter Dirkx . He manages to get the whole Cult Of The Birdman shtick down fairly smoothly, and even leaves off on a cliffhanger (whether that's solved or not is unknown). Check the video out below and grab Deerhoof's Breakup Songs today via Polyvinyl Records.
Breakup Song is out now via Polyvinyl. Stereogum debuted the video earlier today!

Sonny Smith has bounced back from the post-divorce listlessness of Longtime Companion . He has returned from the wandering, dissociative identity disorder of 100 Records: Vol. 3 . On Antenna to the Afterworld , due to drop June 11 on Polyvinyl, Smith is back to what he does best: lending his perceptive, singular voice to understated rock tunes with his posse The Sunsets. He's scarred, bleary-eyed and the opposite sex is only beginning to come back into focus. The future is uncertain on [...]
My favorite track on new album Heza , out now on Polyvinyl.

The Dodos are getting ready to release their fifth studio album, Carrier , one that singer/guitarist Meric Long notes was influenced by the unexpected passing of guitarist Chris Reimer (formerly of Women): “Chris was a huge influence on the way I think about guitar, songwriting, and music in general. Seeing how he could transform and shape sound with an electric guitar inspired me to explore more tones and use those tones to begin writing a song.” The band has shared one track off [...]
Consonants are cool, and vowels are lame. Here are five artists who agree: 1. SBTRKT – Trials of the Past [ Young Turks ] Pronounced: "Subtract" Vowel-less and faceless, the masked producer has a knack for creating pop-friendly bass music that bridges the gap between the underground and mainstream. Arguably the most well-known producer without vowels on this list, SBTRKT just released a live album , out now. 2. DFRNT – The Way You Look At Me [...]

San Francisco The Dodos are gearing up to release their new record Carrier August 28th on Polyvinyl. After the very sad death of their guitarist Christopher Reimer, a slightly more aggressive sound seems to have been introduced. The pop-aesthetic is still there, but just hiding in the shadows as a more guitar-centered sound is explored. Still a great track though, and it’s wonderful to see this band back in the limelight.
From the upcoming album, Carrier , out 8/27/13.
Now warming up for the release of their fifth full-length in seven years, San Francisco duo The Dodos haven't exactly held us forever rapt over the course of their discography. Sophomore recording Visiter was a personal fave, although elsewhere they've faltered for want of a more tender term as Meric Long and Logan Kroeber have often fallen for the predictable, or worse still the plainly soporific. Though if a perfunctory peek into the inner workings of the forthcoming Carrier should be any genuine yardstick, then they've set their sights far higher than they have of late, and [...]

"Confidence" isn't the raucous, in-your-face jam we were hoping for as the first sample of The Dodo's fifth album, Carrier (out August 27th via Polyvinyl ), but that is not to say a great introduction. The song starts off more restrained to only to culminate in a pretty satisfying all out guitar assault with pounding drums. Throughout we get the warm vocal harmonies that have become a staple of sorts for the twosome. Listen below.
San Francisco duo / new Polyvinyl signees The Dodos will be releasing a follow-up to their excellent 2011 album No Color this year and we now have their first taste with “Confidence”. The track begins with some nice acoustic pleasantries, but don’t let that fool you, the climax is a full-on rambunctious electric guitar jam. Carrier is out this 8/27 on Polyvinyl
Curiosity is out now on Polyvinyl.
Mike Kinsella's Owen have posted the song "Blues to Black." The song will appear on L'Ami du Peuple and is due out July 2, 2013 via Polyvinyl Records . The prolific musician - of Cap'n Jazz , American Football , and Owls - is aiming for a more rock-oriented approach than the normal stripped-down material he's released under the name. Check out the song here . The last Owen album was 2011's Ghost Town [...]

of Montreal: Young Froth/Taypiss - The weather in Chicago isn’t exactly conducive to anticipating summer, but you guys, I have found my summer album. It is called Young Froth/Taypiss , and it’s 14 early of Montreal tracks that I can’t believe I have gone this long without hearing. My first thought when I put the album on was that track one, ‘Absent Plot’, is one of the most lovely ramshackle indie songs I have ever heard. There really is no better way for me to describe it. And ‘Dee’s Enochian Alphabet’? An of Montreal [...]
