On my last and final night at Pop Montreal 2011. I headed up to Casa del Popolo for the Arts & Craft 's showcase. It was a Toronto music scene kind of night. Wanted to show my support for the guys from The Darcys. Surprise! Surprise! The band is signed on to Arts & Crafts! Congrats for them. Got there when Bishop Morocco was playing. The place was really packing. They were really good with their indie rock tunes. [...]
So, last week was the annual five-day Canadian international music, art and film festival known as Pop Montreal . We were approached by the gang at the festival and at the Montreal Tourism Board to partner up with noted Canadian photographer Richmond Lam to shoot some street style photos throughout the festival and we now have those results. And we couldn't be happier with them, as Mr Lam has captured a ton of great shots in and around the downtown center and at venues and places like the Pop headquarters, Le Belmont, Notman House, Divan Orange and [...]

Definitely one of the "it" shows at Pop Montreal on September 23, 2011. A sold out show with tUnE-yArDs , Pat Jordache and Touchy Mob at the Ukrainian Federation. Very anticipated show because it was tUnE-yArDs. This was the only time this year that I went to a show at Ukrainian Federation and there is something special about that venue. The show started off with Berlin's Touchy Mob. A solo guy who plays a mix of electronica and dancey music. I [...]

Decided to catch abit of Rich Aucoin 's Pop Montreal set at La Sala Rossa. I wanted to show my support for his Montreal show while at this festival. Surprised that his brother Paul was there. This is the first time that I see them play together. I was there for the first two songs filled with screaming, dancing and confetti. Sad that I got to miss the parachute. Noticed that Rich was wearing a Parlovr t-shirt! [...]

My favorite Montreal indie pop label Arbutus Records did their Pop Montreal showcase on September 22, 2011. Having missed out their showcase last year, there was no way I was going miss this one. The showcase was held at Mission Santa Cruz on Rachel Street. Got there to catch the last two songs by Sean Nicholas Savage . Wow he was really good with his acoustic indie catchy pop songs. The audience was loving his music which was a sight to see. [...]
While I missed out on Wednesday's Metropolis show, I did attend Thursday's free downtown show @ Place Des Festivals with 100 000+ of their closest friends to celebrate Pop and it's decade of existence: Then on Saturday, the first annual Pop Vs. Jock Basketball tournament @ McGill University Sports Center. A charity game organized by the Butler Bros. with [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Jay West, Getty Images The second night (Sept. 22) of POP Montrea l proved to be the night of Polaris Prize winners as Toronto hardcore punk rockers and 2009 victors F---ed Up headlined an eclectic bill in an even more eclectic venue (the band's performance came on the heels of a set by this year's Polaris champs Arcade Fire in [...]
Official Website | Myspace | Facebook | Twitter Last day. Knees are weak, feet hurting like a bitch from these last 4 days of standing up for hours on end. While you spend the first half of your lazy Sunday sleeping it off, you got all afternoon to do some record shopping @ the 3rd Annual Record Fair [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Graham Hughes, CP Arcade Fire played a free outdoor Pop Montreal show Thursday night (Sept. 22) to, what lead singer Win Butler described as, "the most polite giant mob I've ever seen." With commemorative cups handed out at water stations and serious fans lining up at noon to get the best view, it was clear that the band's fellow Montrealers were [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Roger Kisby, Getty Images Japandroids kicked off the 10th annual POP Montreal music festival Sept. 21 with a sold-out show filled with fans eager to hear new material from the buzz band. The Vancouver duo -- always hell-bent on filling the room with as much noise as humanly possible -- greeted the crowd gathered at the Divan Orange with a bold call to arms, [...]

The summer slate of festivals can surely get a little overwhelming, as year after year, more and more events are added to an already-saturated calendar. That growth, given the fact that most of these concert events are totally cleaning up from a bottom line perspective, probably won't change in 2012 (although lingering issues associated with last year's spate of stage collapses may escalate insurance or other associated costs). But, as the pileup of summer is now in the rear-view mirror, autumn offers its share of enticing festivals, and there's a little more differentiation and niche interests represented, in [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Tim Mosenfelder, Getty Images Pop Montreal celebrates its 10th edition this week, a major milestone for any music festival, but co-founder Dan Seligman says this is just the beginning. "I guess the festival feels like a 10-year-old," Seligman -- who's also the brother of Stars keyboardist Chris -- tells Spinner. "When I was 10, I was excited that I was finally in my [...]

It's a great time of year to be in Montreal, especially now that the Pop Montreal festival has arrived once again. Starting today and lasting until Sunday the 25th, the city will be home to a myriad of art, film and cultural events, as well as what are sure to be some incredible live music performances. The next few days are so jam-packed with amazing events that it's tough for me to even begin talking about them, just check out the full schedule here. What I will say, however, is how excited I am to see Arcade Fire [...]
