I'm really excited about this tune from Leapling that has been floating around just a little bit over the Interwebs. A light introduction builds the perfect setting for the tune, leaving enough empty space for the brilliant melody to jump in enthusastically, then trickle it's way through your mind, leaving an effortless happiness in its wake. There's not much information on the group, other than that they're from Brooklyn and they're making this chilled out collage pop. Oh, and they will soon have an EP to their name, which is being put out by [...]

You've gotta depend on your Internet friends when it comes to discovering the scene across the country, so I'm glad Toby over at Finest Kiss in Seattle turned me onto this band Zebra Hunt . The three-piece outright definitely has some Oceanic hints in their works, but I also see a modern bent in the recording process, allowing for the central melody to really burst through here. They've got a short little EP that you can download for free over at their BANDCAMP page, and I promise [...]

After just over thirty years it is about time I took a look at the Osaka, Japan, based Essential indie band trio - Naoko Yamano - since formation (Vocal / Guitar), Ritsuko Taneda - since 2006 (Bass / Vocal) and Emi Morimoto since 2010 (Drums /Vocal) better known as Shonen Knife! . Shonen Knife! While others were wondering about inventing indie pop Shonen Knife! was doing it and no matter which way you slice the cake, even bands that don't think they have been influenced [...]

I knew this was coming, after running into Michael Croomer over at Fun Fun Fun Fest last year, but I couldn't have dreamed that it would sound as good as this track that GvsB ran recently. Lace Curtains , Croomer's new project while Harlem is on the back-burner is just another great spawn of that incredible Austin band, with Grape Street being the other. Sometime this year we shall get to hear The Garden of Joy and the Well of Loneliness [...]

When you come across a tune that you can't escape you've got to just sit down and applaud the efforts of the artists; that's exactly what I did when I listened to this first track from the latest EP, titled Fumes , from Portland's Grandparents . There's sort of a far-out approach to the craftsmanship of the group's pop efforts, something that makes their songs always seem to rise and fall with the changes of the wind. Hopefully you get the same sentimental drifting emotion that came to mind when [...]
For some reason the rain always affects the mood, so with recent cloudy skies, I've been looking for something a bit peppier to pick up my mood, and yours too. Luckily, I've got this great little jam from Toronto's Moon King . They've just put out a new 73 that you can grab for free right HERE , but I've got one of the tracks to offer you. On this number, you get a more organic version of what Karen O did for the Where the Wild [...]
If you're looking for something to put on in the background as your mind wanders today, then you've come to the right place! I've caught myself drifting off, happily of course, to the meandering pop tune just released by White Birds . The band is working on releasing the White Birds Tape , which you can grab from Grizzly Records . Word is that they've got a full length in the works, but no news on that front just yet. I promise you that you'll [...]
A good pop tune jumps in, like a ninja, does its routine and, with a blinding flash, is gone. Ryan Lindsey 's song 'Friend For Life' does just that. The tune takes spazzy drums, boinging bass and near-50's backup vocals, blending it into something that nudges the base of the brain and prods you to play it repeatedly. I've honestly not explored the remainder of the album enough, but it shares the same subdued sheen with the 2 minutes of flutter and charm that is 'Friend For Life'. Based on just this song, the [...]
