While recent anums have yielded strong releases from Dessa and Lazerbeak , as well as pert near-classics from P.O.S. , something very special happens when the members of Minneapolis hip-hop collective Doomtree go Voltron. No Kings , their latest full-length, is a stone-cold stunner and proof positive that the evolution of hip-hop, though seemingly stunted at times, is far from over. And incidentally; if it's wrong to want Bolt Cutter for my ringtone, I don't want to be right. Though hardened [...]
Minneapolis rap collective Doomtree has always flown under my radar for no apparent reason. I love releases from individuals within the group (P.O.S.'s Never Better and Dessa's A Badly Broken Code come to mind) but I've never given the group releases as much time as those projects. This stance, however, is changing after seeing the video for No Kings album cut "Bangarang". The karaoke party turned posse cut video is motivating me to listen to all Doomtree everything for the next couple of days. Doomtree heads and newbies alike be [...]
You know a track's a banger when it brings my happy ass back to SKoA shouting and shit! I can't believe I let this creep by me for a whole month before I came across. Anyways, peep out the new video for Boys Noize artist Housemeister's collaboration with the Minneapolis Doomtree rapper P.O.S. titled "Weird Friends". Oh and P.S. a little birdy told me this one is gonna be on P.O.S. upcoming 4th solo record dropping later this year. Just a heads up. GRAB THIS SHIT ON BEATPORT NOW!

2012 is poised to be one of the greatest years in music in awhile. Why? Well, I'll give you a hint: it isn't because Justin Bieber is set to have an album coming out. In fact, I don't even know whether that's true or not. It's exciting because Phoenix, Spoon, Delta Spirit, Mumford & Sons, P.O.S., Passion Pit, Animal Collective, The Shins, Brother Ali, Dr. Dre, Miike Snow, Lana Del Rey, Andrew Bird, Sleigh Bells , and the xx are poised to release albums. That's not even including all of the new or smaller bands that will [...]
This is one of my favorite episodes of the year. I look forward to it and I think that all my anticipation has paid off. I will say that I have a wonderful time this year, and look forward to more in-studio performances in 2012!

If you're familiar with Daytrotter.com , it is probably because of the extensive coverage of the independent rock, folk and Americana scene. Daytrotter has established itself as one of the premiere tastemakers in this space, contributing to breaking bands like Dawes, Bon Iver, Mountain Goats and Deer Tick by featuring early sessions of the groups. What you might not be familiar with is the impressive coverage of Hip Hop and Rap by Daytrotter. These sessions get lost in among the more visible or "buzzworthy" sessions by the Fleet Foxes, Andrew Bird's and Timber Timbre's of the scene. [...]

The Doomtree Blowout is a big fucking deal. Every December, Minneapolis hip-hop collective Doomtree takes over First Avenue's 7 th Street Entry for "one whole fucking week," as the t-shirts and taglines say. Each member of the collective curates one night of the week, culminating in a group performance on the last weekend. The upshot of this is that the audience can pick and choose which night they want to attend based on who's performing. Having seen Doomtree in its illustrious entirety before, I opted to see rapper P.O.S. ' Wednesday night show. For his lineup, [...]

Who is Doomtree? The simplest answer – that it's currently P.O.S., Sims, Dessa, Mike Mictlan, Cecil Otter, Paper Tiger, and Lazerbeak all brought together – isn't the best answer. Certainly each of them, after a few years of producing some excellent solo work (P.O.S.'s Never Better was a particular highlight), has brought ideas to No Kings , and that makes No Kings an album by Doomtree. But if Doomtree is a collective of personalities who are forging careers in their own right, then how should we characterize their music as a whole? [...]
Pick up a copy of this year's Winter Guide issue of City Pages and you'll notice that Doomtree is not only featured on the cover and in an interview about their new album, No Kings, but that they've

OK people, for those of us that get down with that hard grimy sound then butter up those headsets and listen up. Housemeister is set to release his upcoming Weird Friends EP on Boys Noize Records which features a collaboration with Southern California and Rhymesayers Records mainstay P.O.S. . The EP, due for release on December 12th, also features remixes from TWR72 , Mixhell , and Obi Blanche . It's about time two real heads collaborated on a track/EP that resulted in this type of sound. There are the essential albums that need to be in everyone's collection. There are the personal favorites, the ones that aren't highly acclaimed but still get played every once in a while. And then there are the albums that you stick in the back of your collection because you want to forget that you spent money on them. "Own It or Disown It" gives the writer the opportunity to look at such discarded albums and determine if they are diamonds in the rough or if they deserve to be used as mini-frisbees. [...]
