We have another teaser from the supergroup featuring Josh Homme (Queens of Stone Age), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters). Arctic Monkeys brought their haunting carnival act to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with a performance of "Crying Lightning." Muse's new single "The Uprising" was premiered today, and I can't help but get a Marilyn Manson, glam rock vibe from the overall sound. It's a slightly different feel than Muse's previous work. Although, the band enjoys throwing out surprises with their singles as seen on "Supermassive Blackhole" from the 2006's Black Holes & Revelations album. The supergroup consisting of Conor Oberst, Yim Yames (aka Jim James), M. Ward, and Mike Mogis has released some more music from their much anticipated debut. The two new tracks, "Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.)," and "The Sandman, the Brakeman, and Me" live up to their name more accurately than the previously released "Say Please." Yim Yames dominates "Dear God" with gentle vocals over a drum loop and delicate strings, while the second track is lead by M. Ward. Penned by Kara DioGuardi , Cathy Dennis , and Mitch Allan , this song is a testament for why Kara DioGuardi never made it as a musician. The song is poorly written, and ends up being a failed attempt at an inspirational, emotionally moving piece of art. Even the judges thought the song was atrocious (excluding DioGuardi of course). The cowbell connoisseur himself Will Ferrell hosted the season finale of SNL this past weekend. Unfortunately, there were no odes to the Blue Oyster Cult sketch, but there were several early sketches that served up sizeable laughs. First and foremost, we saw Ferrell channel his brilliant, Tony-nominated performance as former President George W. Bush from Broadway's "You're Welcome America." Bush confronted Dick Cheney (Darrell Hammond) as being an uncool vice president, and how he should have been more like Joe Biden. With Zac Efron the host of last night's episode of SNL, I'll admit my expectations were...pretty low. The High School Musical star wasn't exactly the greatest host, but he did an alright job. For me, nothing topped the Muppets' sketch from last week. In his monologue, he put it best by thanking his fan base for "staying up this late to see him." Natasha Khan, better known as Bat For Lashes, is soaking up the better half of my music listening hours lately. Her new album, "Two Suns," dropped this past week, and it's nothing short of sonically pleasing. A perfect blend of art rock, new age, airy pop, just naming a few of these descriptions feels like giving her music too many limitations. The album soars to majestic places from start to end.
