Flower Orgy Delivers Lo-Fi Cover of Neil Young's 'Powderfinger.'

Denver's splendid Fire Talk Records sent over this blissful cover of Neil Young's Powderfinger , marvelously executed by Brooklyn outfit Flower Orgy with a little help by Alex Bleeker shredding the guitar on this one, a tune that instantly evokes all summery feelings you could ever hope for, and listening to this I have to say that I've never found a band name more aptly chosen. Bleeker also recorded most of the songs that comprise the group's self-titled cassette on Fire Talk that's now up for pre-order over here . [...]

Odyssey Number Five is the fourth studio album by Australian rock band Powderfinger, produced by Nick DiDia and released on 4 September 2000. Voted #1 last week-end in Triple J's Top 100 All Time Greatest Australian Albums list. How they can claim it to be an ALL TIME list with only 2 70s albums in it beats me, so as far as I'm concerned, the list is complete and utter rubbish. Little River Band and several other major Australian top bands aren't even in the list at all. If they'd rename it to Post-70s Greatest Australian [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News The devastating flooding affecting parts of Australia's Queensland region is causing havoc for some artists regarding their itineraries. But the situation is also resulting in several Australian artists and promoters, as well as international acts, doing their part to create benefit concerts. Although no venue or date has been announced, Australian promoter Michael Gudinski is in discussions regarding a Sound Relief 2 benefit concert with artists such as Katy Perry , [...]

Legendary Aussie rock group, Powderfinger who issued a statement in April of this year , "With the completion of our last album Golden Rule , we feel that we have said all that we want to say as a musical group. While researching the previous post of Aussie Rock band, Powderfinger, we discovered a recent addition to their official video library from one of our favorite tracks off their latest album, Golden Rule which is very fitting, especially if it is in fact their last video together. Here, frontman Bernard Fanning, does what he has been doing so well over the 20 plus years of his songwriting, creating thought provoking music that cuts straight to the heart and soul. One of the most powerful "These Days" from their fourth studio album, Odyssey Number Five , which was released in 2000. [...]

I went to my first Big Day Out on Australia Day and although it was an interesting experience I'm not sure that I'll bother with it again. Let me explain. After getting the merch hunting out of the way, we headed to the Green Stage and were in time to check out The Temper Trap who came on not long after we found a patch of shade on the side of the hill. I like 'Sweet Disposition' and I was interested to see how they perform live. I don't know if it was because we were so far [...]

Homebake is Australias premiere all-local festival, boasting an illustrious heritage cemented in the history books of the Australian music industry. What sets it aside from other festivals is its support of home-grown music and new talent, as well as its commitment to philanthropic causes. Photoclip of Homebake 2009, Sydney Australia 3 Top Recommendations from a local blogger. We agree these would be 3 of our must see's but then again, all of them would have [...]

Directed by Natasha Pincus. One of our favorite singles, "Burn Your Name" now has a hot new video. The song is off their latest LP " Golden Rule ", out now. For this video, in October 2009, Powderfinger headed to Thailand to film this clip during the Yi Peng Festival, which takes place annually in Chiang Mai. As part of the festival, people light a lantern that is kind of like a personal hot air balloon and set it adrift, sending all of their troubles away. The lanterns' launching [...]
2009 album from the Australian Alt-Rockers. Recorded in Byron Bay with friend and producer extraordinaire Nick Didia (Neil Young, Pearl Jam), Golden Rule is a departure from Powderfinger's signature sound - whilst still maintaining their knack for producing classic rock songs - unusual instrumentation, dramatic angular structures and dissonant strings nestle between harder riffs and experimental

Powderfinger's lead singer, Bernard Fanning, can definitely pen some soul searching, self reflective, highly emotive lyrics... musically, his voice has a way of reaching into one's soul and when he hits a certain octave and pitch.. in songs like "These Days" there can be no more melancholy in his breath.. The band has just released another album, their 7th. Bernard and his band five piece Australian mates have been making music together now for over 20 years. Their last album, Powderfinger's sixth studio album, Dream Days at the Hotel Existence was released in 2007. Debuting at #1 [...]

Girl Talk I'm off to Big Day Out next year and I'm pretty damn stoked - I've never been before and while I'm not really a fan of massive crowds, I'm sure the lineup will more than make up for it. I'll be front and centre (ok, well maybe not literally) for headliners Muse and Powderfinger, along with Girl Talk, The Temper Trap and The Decemberists. I have to admit I'm slightly interested in checking out Lily Allen too - I've never been a big fan but I'd be interested to see what [...]
We all know summer means music festivals. We also all hopefully know that Australia celebrates summer when we're battling winter. So it makes senses that with Australia's summer quickly approaching, many of the country's major music events are starting to finalize their 2010 festivities, the first being Big Day Out . For its 18th edition, Australia's largest outdoor music event has tapped the likes of Muse, The Decemberists, The Mars Volta, the newly unretired Lily Allen, Peaches, Rise Against, Mastodon, Kasabian, Dizzee Rascal, Powderfinger, Ladyhawke, the Horrors, and Girl Talk. However, as [...]
